Wow finding gravel and water is absolutely priceless!! What an amazing gift!❤

I'm doing a permaculture course at the moment and we just finished learning about dams (ponds). There is a lot of potential here that you really might benefit from consultation with an approved permaculture designer (& a dam/pond earthworker) especially ones familiar with your region. There are several options for you to capture water all the way down that hill, especially since you have a constant flow of water source in the spring. That main high quality dam could feed several smaller dams lower dam, have diversion ditches or could be joined using swales with level sill spillways installed. You could plant trees on those swales that can have canopy branches and leaves chopped and used as fodder for your cattle. Up hill of the pond you could install a silt trap pond or gravel aquatic plant bed which will assist with ensuring the water going in to that main dam is as clean as possible. You said there is clay in the soil which will be useful for the dam construction. Ensure there is a keyway installed in the dam wall. I highly recommend doing some exploration on your options to ensure you fully utilize the potential of the spring.

Fairbanks, AK is super dry and warm in the summer, so we built a little pond to collect rain water for our vegetable garden. We based it on the plans of David Pagan Butler, who is a natural pool enthusiast/author from England. He has is own youtube channel and is super fun/quirky. I definitely recommend looking into his building techniques. His ponds work off of air.....bubbles. Ours has stayed extremely clear many years after my sons and I built it. We had to use a liner but you guys clearly won't need one. So fun!!!!

If you get some smaller sample sized jars you could make some jams and jellies up to use in the cabins as a little welcome gifts or apart of a breakfast basket.

It would be great for your new pond to have a waterfall, if you could run a pipe from the upper water source...waterfalls are great for aeration. I have a 3000 gal pond with a waterfall...there is nothing more peaceful to hear in the evening! You should also put water lilies in the pond they will help keep the water clear and they are beautiful! So interesting the rose jelly. I made elderberry jelly from my black elderberry...it eas very mild and light pink, but oh so good. I love your vidios...you live the good life!KarenBennett ❤❤❤❤🐈🐄🐕🌻🌸

Water is life . When we lived in Cherry Creek ,30 min from Kamloops our farm had very little water and it proved to be a huge challenge. We ended up selling and my parents last farm in Westwold had the most amazing water , it was prevalent, had a river running through the property and tasted so good .

Well, I have to say that in all the years (decades really) of working in the bush, I have not seen a grapple loader digging a hole! lol. It worked though...impressive! How exciting to have the stream - I do wonder if it is the same stream as the house - same fissure in the rock. None the less...How exciting!! Amazing the amount of water that came in. I don't feel that you will need an aerator as the creek will keep it fresh (plus cat tails will help)...however, I feel you will need an overflow out of this pond to another pond at the lower level with an overflow out of the lower pond to allow for water to follow it's natural course down the mountain. Good video! Jelly looks nice!

We use a bottom aeration and weighted defusser on our pond and run at least 12 hours on hot days . A water fountain or waterfall is also good, but we stocked ours with fish so it needed more oxygen to promote healthy fish so it is basically what you tend to use it for also size. With no oxygen or movement the water tends to go green with algae. I'm basing the bottom aeration with the size and depth our pond is of 36 ft. In the middle with the water surrounding a island in the middle so its relatively huge. I absolutely love our pond its a nice escape and great summer fun.

A lady in my neighbourhood makes a recipe from her German/Polish grandmother called rose confiture. It is just rose water, lemon juice, and a very small amount of sugar. The lemon juice provides the pectin. Alternatively, for jellies, you can always make your own pectin by boiling down juice from apples by at least half. I prefer these methods to any store bought pectin and keep a supply of apple pectin in my freezer. Personally, though I like smelling roses, I didn't care for the cloying rose flavour when eating them. LOL
