Decorating My New Home On A Thrift Store Budget! Cape Cod 1939 Bungalow

Great finds at the thrift stores this week! You have to see my new mirror and bedroom decor! I decorate on a tight budget for my home but thrift stores help me so much to make it cozy and interesting! I have six rooms to decorate and am trying to respect the 1939 Cape Cod-style cottage. So much happened this week~ I bought new furniture, planned my gardens for next spring, bought new bedroom curtains and rods ,and just took a little time to live life in my new city! Getting ready for fall!!!!!!!!!!!! It's here!
I have something personal to share with you always... and I also want to talk about my obsession with Shoeless Joe Jackson...its like I am trying to figure out what his dramatic life has to teach me. I keep searching.

I love the variety... Also my bathroom decor and shower curtain.... Dearest Susan, I must admit as you began your story about the young mother in the thrift store, I was disappointed as you were rationalizing your thoughts. But as you finished your story I was cheering you on with tears in my eyes. Going from summer to fall for me, is going fantastic❤ My birthday is October 12th and literally I come out of hibernation in the fall and winter❤ I live in Alabama where it is hot and humid!!! And I'm not an "outside" person. The mosquitoes love me so, when I have to go anywhere I kind of just walk fast to my car 😂 I love you Susan. Your videos saved my life in 2020 when my husband passed away. I turned on one and I saw this beautiful woman who was exactly the same age as me sitting on her sofa in her wonderfully decorated apartment looking so confident and living by herself with her precious little dog!! I was in such a horrible place physically, emotionally and I was just needing something to give me hope so badly. You were that something for me. Now, three years later, I am finally doing better. Perhaps you were only *meant to pass on the message from Shoeless Joe* to those of us who desperately needed to hear it. I’ve never heard of the story and to hear these words today brought tears to my eyes. I once had a blessed life and lost it all due to multiple serial losses (laid off from 25 year job, divorce, burglary, house fire, etc.) and now poor and alone. I’m thankful for all the lessons and growth from going through hardship but it’s been hard to rebuild my life at an older age…I constantly must find the strength to fight for my dignity, happiness, and prosperity. I’m grateful to have found such a great treasure as you LittlePoet on YT…thank you. 🙏🏼💙

But I knew I had a choice...did you feel like that? I can be broken forever....ok...or I can find some path out of the hell I found myself in and make my life count...brand new me..brand new life...I don't have any answers...just questions really...but the older I get the more I care about what I leave behind...not belongings or money but my deeds....I wonder if Joe felt like that? So many of us focus on our short comings and allow them to overshadow the rays of sunshine that would flow out of us if only we would pull up the shades....love your bedroom make over and the beautiful bedspread and shear curtains. Wow, you always amaze me! I'm 68 and when I was 1st divorced and my Son was a young boy, I would shop at thrift stores to decorate our home so he would feel comfortable having his Friends over, as I never received child.. support and to this day I still have many items! My Mom had blue willow dishes, they were our everyday! I love to thrift! I love yr bedroom and I have a bed almost like yours! You were very gracious to not covenant that piece and share the value because God already knows your heart, He just wanted you to know it ❤

I just loved the last week… I was in Pune in my new little flat, finished decorating,returned home to Mumbai and performed some religious festival, Lord Ganesha’s birthday, and went back again. My husband saw the final decor for the first time and two of our friends too, and they were so full of praise and wonder at the lovely decor which I wish I could share with you! Except for two or three things ( okay ten, counting the lights and lamps) I haven’t bought new decor : I just shopped from my home but it looks so organic, as if it was always there! I am happy Susan, I have my own home which I paid for and decorated to my heart’s desire, something I wanted to do since childhood!

Susan I was a pre-school teacher for many years. I live in New Zealand. One of the songs I used to sing with the children was. Aroha (the Maori word for love) is loving if you give it away, give it away, give it away. Aroha is loving if you give it away, it comes right back to you. It's just like a magic penny, hold on tight and you won't have any. Lend it, spend it, give it away, and it comes right back to you. This being the case, I expect you won't have enough walls to put all the Lee treasures on you will find in the future. What a beautiful woman you are, like the princess your grand-daughter longs to be, living in the beautiful castle decorated by treasures old and new. Good things come in little dwellings as well, even if they are only brick and sand castles. It's what dwells within that counts. Aroha Christine.

There is more value in the decision you made concerning the sculpture than any enjoyment you could ever receive if it were hanging in your home. The neatest part is that as time went on at the store you were able to see more of the woman's situation and know more fully the joy to be had when we do the right things. We can never go wrong when what we "collect" and give is honesty, compassion and love. It is what Jesus did.

I have started taking down my summer decor and decorating for fall. After sitting at home for 2 years staring at the same stuff every day I felt stuck. Now I change things up a little bit for the season and I feel like my life is moving forward again. It makes me feel alive and optimistic about the future.

I worked all week taking care of my lady with Dementia as her kids went to Italy so I worked Sunday to Saturday. I am partial to Dementia patients as my mother passed away from complications from Dementia.. Anyway, your bedroom sounds delightful and I think you made a good choice changing to lavender for sleeping. I love old things but I have so much from my mother and grandmother I can't possibly buy anymore. My kids can all furnish their houses with the amount of things that were left to me. I still haven't unpacked my garage and I received it in 2019!!!! There are glass pieces and sterling. I just hope that there's no mice setting up shop. Your home looks so charming and cozy. Oct 11th is one year since my boy left us and crossed the rainbow bridge. Fortunately, we got a Cavapoo or Cavadoodle to play with my daughter's Golden doodle and they are such good friends plus I have my old dogs mate, a Maltese Shitzu who is 11 and she's warming up to the puppy. Actually, she's in charge and scares Layla! Enough rambling. You are such a sweetheart. ❤ That was so kind of you to tell that woman about that piece. You have integrity which is greatly lacking in today's world. Your stories are always inspiring.

Just found you and Desi on YT this week. Have been binge watching your videos. I made it to you moving in your Red Brick home! I love it! Somehow YT knew I needed to be a part of this community. I too am single, after my 30 year marriage ended when he left me for a much younger girl. I spent the 5 years after to begin to get comfortable with my new chapter of life. Learned a lot along the way, it’s been 20 years now, guess what? I really like me! I was able to buy a house that my granddaughter’s called Nanny’s little doll house❤️. Those girls are grown now but still love to come see Nanny at her dollhouse❤️ I have watched your videos and cried, laughed and cheered! You and Hal are a hoot together. Love your sense of humor! I think that has gotten me through some tough times. The first time I came to see my house that I was hoping to buy, when I walked in the front door it felt like home and I so hoped and prayed I would get it! I did! It is still my peace on earth! When life gets hard I know all will be okay if I can just get home!!! So thankful everyday for my home!!! So glad I found you Susan but honestly I have to say I fell in LOVE with Desi❤️❤️. I will be 70 in February. I live in Oklahoma. I went to 2 thrift stores today, spent $5+ but had a blast. I really need to get out more. When I am out, I make it a point to look people in the eye and say HELLO! It helps me so much!!!! Can’t wait to see all you new decorations, your house is perfect for you and Desi. Susan, the fable about the Blue Willow Pattern is fascinating. The Fable starts with a wealthy warlord in China , centuries ago, (could be Japanese). When his only daughter was born, he immediately betrothed her to the infant son of another warlord. As time went on , she met her future husband she could not fall in love with him,because she fell in love with her Tutor. Knowing her destiny she escaped her father and married her Tutor. On the Blue Willow Pattern there are 2 birds that represent the couple that were immediately reincarnated into birds are were united in Eternity. I am a vintage lover and on Etsy for years, but I always research and provide my buyers the backstory of the listed item, providing something more. I love it when you have shows where you shop at the thrift stores. Well, going from summer to fall is for me a fun time. I like redecorating for the season or buying a new fall shirt. Here in Seattle, the change happens quickly. The leaves are changing, the heater is kicking on in the night... right now, it's raining. I embrace it. Now winter, that's another subject.

Susan you are a GOOD Person. Small things like what you did earn us big rewards in heaven. Kindness NEVER grows old. I love your bedroom in the Lavender and White. My mother was a big proponent of the color Pink… mainly Her kitchen!! 😂 But she said her real favorite color was Lavender as it was a calming, happy color that was often forgotten. I myself am, of all things, allergic to the Lavender plant so I like to bring it into my home in decor. Your bedroom make over gave me inspiration to maybe redo my sunny yellow bedroom (I love Yellow!) into a more calming happy Lavender. The trick will be to mingle it in with my beach decor!! (I live 12 hours from a beach so I have to bring my favorite place to me! Thus my Beach Cottage in Arkansas! 😂) That Quilt is simply gorgeous! I am going on a Amazon hunt!!! I am happy to see your spirits are better after your loss of your friend. When we loose a loved one, W often forget that their bright spirit still shines on in our happy memories and we honor them by living bigger and brighter after. It is like they share their glow with us always there after and it allows us to glow more! You definitely glow today! Prayers and Love to you and Desi!!
