The thing about Blackpink is everytime they release a single or an album, they go on a hiatus for about a year or two. That has been going on ever since their debut, it's their company that manages it. They only have 32 songs till now although they have been 8 years into their career. But everytime they release a song, it breaks numerous world records and breaks the music charts. Their records have been untouchable ever since their debut. They are not only considered the biggest kpop girl group but the biggest Girl Group worldwide by many magazines such as Rolling Stone, Billboard, Grammys and many more, and was even titled Group Of The Year by VMAs last year. They have 90M+Subs on KZbin and is the most subscribed artists (general) on the platform surpassing Justin Beiber in 2022 in just 6 years into their career. They renewed their contract as a group with their management (YG) last year. They're not disbanding, this is just a normal routine for BLACKPINK. They release music and vanish for a year or 2 and always comes back with a banger. It is nothing unusual, fans are just being devastated as they haven't made a move since their contract renewal.

As a blink since 2017, honestly all blinks are used to it at this point 💀 I mean other fandoms make fun of us but literally thinking about it, it’s powerful how much the girls got the media and people wrapped around their finger that if they have any slight news of making music or filming something, people will be talking about it. Also, I think we can sort of add the solo songs to BP's discography. Jennie and Lisa each have a solo song that has surpassed 1 billion views. Lalisa is around 700 million now. Jisoo's and Rosie's solo songs are also very popular. It will be interesting to see what they each release this year. There is every indication that their agreement with YG is that THIS YEAR (2024) is for their independent solo activities and YG will focus on Babymonster this year. Next year (2025) will probably see Blackpink back together doing group things again.

@@caz3107 Who told you it was a "2 year extension"? I've never seen any report about it being for only 2 years. I don't think they ever even announced the actual contract term length. And it wasn't an "extension". It was a new contract. It obviously had to be a new contract because the members were previously under contract with YG for both individual and group activities and now it's only for group activities. It's hard to know exactly what the long-term plans are. YG clearly wants to focus on Babymonster this year. BP will probably come back as a group next year. It's a very different set up now. In the past YG was more interested in producing boy groups and put low priority on girl groups (which is probably why he always assigned the girl group producing to Teddy...for both 2NE1 and then Blackpink). Now, due to Blackpink blowing up beyond YG's wildest expectations, YG realizes that girl groups can be hugely successful and is now directly supervising everything relating to Babymonster.

The "main" this and "lead" that ranking stuff is fake. Some fans just made it up (like they're trying to do with Babymonster now) and then repeated it everywhere, pretending it was official. The rappers were never ranked as "main" or "lead". The only thing YG has ever said (announced at the official debut event in 2016) was to indicate specialties. Lisa's specialties were listed as "rap/dance" (exactly like that and in that order). Jennie's specialties were listed as "vocals/rap" (exactly like that and in that order). The members aren't ranked against each other. Lisa is the only one who was listed with a "dance" specialty, plus she's obviously the most experienced dancer. As for rapping, both Lisa and Jennie rapped extensively as trainees. Neither YG nor the group members have ever indicated that one of their "rappers" ranks higher than the other in rapping. But from what YG announced in 2016, Lisa was clearly expected to do mostly rapping in her parts and Jennie was expected to split more between singing and rapping. All members can sing, but Lisa obviously focuses more on rapping and dance (and wasn't listed as having vocals as a specialty). Rosie, Jisoo and Jennie were all listed as having vocals as a specialty.

The "main" and "lead" designations were just made up by some fans in 2016 and spammed everywhere, pretending to be official. It's nonsense. When they debuted, YG (their label and producer) only announced members' special roles. Lisa's roles were announced as "rap/dance" (exactly like that and in that order). Jennie's roles were announced as "vocals/rap" (exactly like that and in that order). Rose's and Jisoo's roles were announced as "vocals". It's unfortunate that so many people (even including fan-made sites like K-profiles) mistakenly think that YG made up some big list of main/lead/sub rankings for every kind of role in the group...and now people repeat the fake position "rankings" everywhere without realizing that they are fake. The fake lists also spread because a lot of fan-made "guide" videos also repeated them without fact checking anything. YG has NEVER published any kind of position ranking list. Some fans are even trying to pull off the same ranking list fakery with Babymonster now. Some popular sites again started publishing the "official" rankings based on fake lists, but then deleted them when it was pointed out by many people now that it's fake. (More people are aware now than they were in 2016, so aren't as easily tricked by fan-made "main/lead/sub" ranking lists that pretend to be official, but are fake.) Based on Blackpink's discography, the specialties announced by YG in 2016 have held true throughout. Lisa has done the most rapping. Jennie has split her time between singing and rapping. Neither one was ranked higher or lower than the other. People are free to prefer whomever they like, without someone claiming that they're supposed to like one more because of a fake ranking.

I don't think it's the last Blackpink song, they are just taking a break right now and it's rumored that Jennie and Lisa will each release a solo album this year while Jisoo is acting in tv korean series/movies. I'm not sure what Rosé is doing/planning at the moment.
