i really love the way lex broke down the time it takes to educate yourself and how college affords people the "free" time to learn. I always run into that problem when talking to people, they havent had the time to learn huge swaths of information like i have. But Im a philosopher at heart and I dont own any possessions other than a laptop and two bags of clothes and a cheap smartphone

yet the wealth you have in the inside goes beyond the material things you carry with you…. and that makes all the difference …. for you, and for us, as a society …. so keep spreading the word, the wisdom, the knowledge…. we all create the net called society …. where we influence and guide each other…. from the tiniest statements, to the tiniest actions of cooperation, kindness … we all create this living organism, called society …. where the moment we help those we don’t know we are but helping ourselves …. the moment we send kindness, use words and emotions that seek to take the best out of the other, we are doing that to ourselves… your learning, your improvement is ours ….

@@SMacCuUladh It was just morphed into social groups. World of warcraft guilds, discord servers, Facebook groups. They all offer a similar life reward. People are social and enjoy groups of others who are doing the same things . The church used to be the general community center. But through scandal and greed many people lost all their trust in said churches. The idea is still solid, worship life, a deity, and the general greatness of humanity. But the church must also accept that life has changed a LOT since its peak. Mostly for the better, but not all. People could certainly use a group that they could trust to actually be helpful to the community, understanding, honest, and a source of inspiration.

I love that you said that the biggest lessons were from life not school. I’ve done both and I was the first in all generations to finish high school and college. Higher Education was a mystery to me. I found that my father was right. You can learn all you need to learn in a library. I’m still grateful to have my education. However, I do believe, my main education came from being a service worker, a life watcher and my traveling. Xo

Yes, a person can definitely improve themselves in the Library, and I understand that the current meme is that college degrees are worthless, but I think the knowledge I got in Engineering school far surpasses the knowledge that I just randomly picked up in the past 30 years, and I think it would have been difficult to master the subjects I learned in college in the local library. Also.many, many jobs are not even approachable without a degree. If you have a college degree and no job, your degree is Philosophy or Literature.

I am 15mins into the podcast and I love you’ve mentioned that you do not understand Shakespeare and Liv confirms it’s super hard. This reminds me of Highschool here in Germany, where they let us read Shakespeare‘s Macbeth and others in order for us to learn the (modern) English language. It hasn’t helped me much, I gained most of my knowledge from Movies, Shows, Reading and Chatting with people. Just my 2 cents on German education system, going to enjoy the rest of the podcast now and might edit this post later!

You guys touched on so many cool ideas in this episode. I just need Liv to take a breath and slooooooow down! I really liked her Moloch video too, it's one of those concepts that flip the way you see a whole host of things.

Outstanding episode! Love the philosophy, metaphysics and eye opening the Moloch part. Realized a little more of how many times and ways we can get caught in those systems unintentionally. Feel like AGI could be an extension of that to outwork Moloch on a scale that could be devastating. Definitely need wisdom and discernment to avoid many risks.

GREAT podcast (as always) Lex! At one point early on, Ms. Boeree mentioned that she utilized ONE physics text over all the rest while attaining her Physics degree. Said it was extremely comprehensive, and covered everything. Could you please reach out to her and provide us with the title, author(s), and edition for this text my good man? I LOVE skipping the time, energy, and financial cost of formal university education when possible.

About redesigning society/technology: as long as centralization of doing things is the paradigm, things will continue to spiral downward. The reason that is true is centralization puts control in the hands of fewer and fewer people and that is counterproductive. There is less chance of competent control. We need to find decentralized ways of getting things done. The more people in control, the better the potential outcome because of the increased chance of competent people in control.

Thank you for another amazing, entertaining, educational meeting of the minds Lex. When I was young school was about getting A's that was the game. I'm sure some knowledge managed to seek into my brain but I was not actively trying to be inquisitive. It is pod cast such as this one that has brought from ambers forth a flame of hunger for knowledge and knowing about as much variety of people as possible for that I'm eternally grateful, Lex. You're outlook of love for humanity paired with intrigue of what can be created is a beautiful lens to see the world through.

Honestly Liv’s two “crazy things” that happened to her are my favorite parts of this podcast. I want to hear more about experiences that deviate from the current scientific narrative. Exploring those unknowns is how we will progress.
@fineasfrog

Yes Lex, and everybody willing, give us more on considering, exploring anomalies that allow us to question the received paradigm. Let us not be like the body of knowledge whether physics or any other body of knowledge that sometimes only the death of the old physicist allows it to move forward into the unknown.

I have been messing around with electronics, and building computer devices for a few years now. I am recently learning how to fly quad copters, and that 'white noise' that Liv talked about is exactly what I am attempting to tame, while I race an expensive quad around. Keeping my body and brain at that zen level of calm, while at the same time making split second decisions at speeds that are only recently attained at first person from the human perspective. I have broken more of them than I would like, but I have to say, I am so very grateful for having access to a simulator. Even in simulator, that fight or flight is not easy to tame, but is a much less expensive way to get it together!
