In that cave where 20 enemies instantly appear and there’s “no way of winning”. Yeah ..so there’s a shout ability that covers the whole grid, that takes them all out in one move. I loved that, because that part rewarded people who grounded out the levels before hand and got that ability.
@SwitchUpYt2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I went in there before having the ability.

regarding the haystack thing Glen mentioned, I believe the game was considered TOO confusing in the old school version of the game, so they've added way points to objectives to smooth out some of the confusion, but it obviously doesn't eliminate the tedium when you're just going back and forth between rooms.

I did wonder if more waypoints had been added this time around. That would make sense. Glen

I played the original thanks to a fan translated rom and was super excited to play this remake, especially for the voice acting... so it felt a bit counter productive when I started with Pogo's story lol. I'm just about to finish the far future chapter, which I left for last because it's my favorite one. I'm really impressed with how well all the writing holds up, and how good most of the gameplay gimmicks have aged. Apart from maybe the stealth in that one chapter, but it's still a cool bit of variety and I appreciate the risk taken even if it didn't quite pan out. Its an awesome remake of a great game and I'm just glad I get to relive the game, even better than I remember it :)

Yea I think glen captured it - sometimes it’s not so much about how many hours a game can deliver, but how much enjoyment it can deliver. I’ve often played games that take almost 100 hours to complete, and I’ve lost the will to play after hour 20 or so. Needless to say, this one would be one I’d buy on sale to enjoy a few of the characters stories, but most likely won’t complete 😅

Great review! While I was intrigued by the game from the reveal, the demo didn't do much to win me over. It looked and sounded great, but I found the combat to be frustrating. I found myself in those scenarios like you mentioned where I was getting slammed from all angles and getting decimated. I'm not saying a demo should necessarily handle you with velvet gloves, but it shouldn't crush you unapologetically either. That demo cost them a sale, from me at least.

Hey, if any of you have seen ads for a mobile Octopath Traveler lately… Stay. Away. It’s gacha in its worst, most money-grubbing form. Idk why it would even have that name, since it’s got dozens of shallow characters you gamble to get, not 8 mains… There are things that cost upwards of $100. Very sneaky advertising like it’s just some sequel. I just thought a warning was necessary, this being a place where a good number of people will have played the first and would be intrigued by the sudden appearance of a supposed sequel.

@@SwitchUpYt The Feudal Japan chapter has some replayability as well since there's a lot of variables and extras (two optional bosses, a missable party member, secret scenes depending on some things you did, two distinct routes, though one does lead to a bad ending, and doing the 100 kills or 0 kills runs can be hard and take some attempts to figure out).

I'm liking the new review format, but you wouldn't want to do it for every title - maybe just keep it for AAA games like Bayonetta 3, Harvestella, the new Pokemons, Xenoblade 3, Splatoon 3 etc. in future. Live a Live - I don't know, maybe you need to be a fan of the original? The combination of cliche time travelling eras and HD2D graphics is a big turn off for me.
