I completed the kung fu master scenario so far, so far I absolutely enjoy the hi def 2d pixel art. The way the game structure reminds me of rudra no hihou; which came out after Live a live on SFC.

Off topic, I love Live A Live and it actually made me cry but I've been watching your channel for a while now and I was searching everywhere for what the opening song for your videos is and I'm currently playing chrono trigger for the first time and I fight Magus and I hear it, I'm so happy

This game probably has my favorite turn-based JRPG combat system of all time. The combination of Fallout's grid system tactics, the ATB system of Final Fantasy, the smaller scale of battles, and the brisk pace of it all makes it such a delight to play. Not to mention some of the most memorable music and some really standout mini storylines. I love the little detail of if you send certain mariachi band members to do work, parts of the music stops playing in the saloon.

I agree with you, it's a great game and great remake. I never played the original, so this was a great way to relive the great era of 90's RPGs. I also like how you can replay the chapters, if you feel like you didn't get the outcome you thought was best. Really cool feature.

I enjoyed my time with Live A Live! Played through it twice in the last 2 years, but I haven't tried the remaster yet. I think it's a fantastic game with a lot of great ideas. I'd recommend it to anyone- just don't be afraid to use a guide in some spots (ninja chapter comes to mind). Solid 8.5/10 for me.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Live-A-Live remake when it came out last year and it impressed me by being even better than I thought it would be. It was a blast to play all the way through and I did back-to-back playthroughs of the remake and then played a fan-translated version of the original. This game truly is a classic and I was really missing out by not having played it before and I now consider it to be among my all-time favorite games.

I thought Live A Live was an amazing game! Not only was it superb, but it was a unique game too! I've never really played a game quite like it. And I agree, I thought the final two chapters were amazing!!!! It threw me for a loop in the best way possible. I played many amazing games last year, and this was easily one of the best. A true hidden gem on Switch.

Xygor, do you track the careers of the famed creators of the old legendary games? For example, the game Another Eden from six years ago has both scriptwriter and composer from the Chrono/Xenogear. Similarly, a new game Valiant Force 2 with the music by the composer for Final Fantasy Tactics, and game player partly from there and partly from Tactics Ogre. (Though it is only released in South-Eastern Asia market, so to play it you will have to set up a new iOS/Google account with a country region like Singapore or something like that. Release for other markets will come some time later.) Of course, these games are not "retro" that your channel is focused on, but I would suggest expanding the scope -- *maybe not now, but in the future* -- as, obviously, the number of old games worthy of discussion is not unlimited, but in newer games, created by the classics, you can always see the reflection of the originals, compare them, explain how the ideas in the scriptwriting and tactical gameplay were evolving through time.

I still don't get why they never released the original here in the U.S. I mean, I know it would've been in the same year as Final Fantasy III for SNES, but they released Chrono Trigger a year later. Maybe the localization of these games at that time really was a tall task.

This remake makes me really hope there will be one for Rudra which also is not part of a series...though of course best would be a 3D remake like with SD3.

considering it wasn't even available outside of japan. i don't know about it being a worthy remaster. didn't even know it existed until this game came out. i watched someone play the first 2-3 stories and it was entertaining. it got too long after that too not be playing myself. i'd say it is a pretty good game that is well paced since you generally don't need to spend alor of time grinding and can keep progressing. which is an issue countless RPGs face.

There's apparently someone within Nintendo who really loved the Super Famicom original and pushed for Nintendo to fund the remake of Live a Live. Whoever this superfan is got the original game put on Wii U's Virtual Console in Japan a few years back. This is an example of GOOD executive meddling 😅

I have only one thing I hate about the new 2.5D visuals, it's the camera angle. It feel very claustrophobic. I prefer the old topdown view of the 16 bit era for exploration. It's where 2D has the advantage to allow impossible projections. They could have used the same trick as one of the DS zelda with a skewed Z axis.

I am glad this update happened. I could not stand the original version even with being able to understand it with English translations. Maybe it is just me being older and seeing this game in a different light. I think combat is like a fast-paced Triange Strategy.

Currently playing it now, and I definitely recommend it. Some of it can be slow at times during certain chapters, but the game keeps it entertaining.

@@Xygor battles felt cheap, and unsatisfying. the stories bored me to tears. It's pretty. It just made me want a full western JRPG. I didn't understand the hype it got at all. I wasn't going to get it because I felt the same way during the demo, but people swore the full game was much better, but I think the demo represented the final product very well.
