Recently, the highly anticipated live action adaptation of One Piece from Netflix was finally released. I was always a bit skeptical about it, but it turned out that it was actually kinda good. Kinda. Despite fan reception to live action One Piece being mostly positive, I have a few problems with it that I feel not many are talking about. In this review, I go over the very specific reasons for why I find OPLA to be mid. #onepiece

As a huge one piece fan, it’s amazing. The people thinking it’s mid or bad are tripping. My guess is they never watched it before or only read the manga like yourself It was very well put together compared to the anime it’s almost shot by shot.

Im ngl it was mid but inspired and I think its more accurate to say it was decent Im in LOVE WITH ONE PIECE but I dont like how they kinda flanderized zoro and some other stuff like how luffy kinda had no real good fights besides arlong which is kinda mid

Every character, while not an exact match to the anime (because it doesn’t translate to real life well) I think was a good representation. Zoro is my favorite in the live action, although toned down a lot lol Mihawk was amazing though, we can agree on that at least right?

The live action is better than the anime for sure (save for a few select moments), but the manga is overall the *best* version of One Piece.

I'm sorry but Luffy only lost to Arlong because he threw water . Which i think they are exaggerateing his weakness to water. He should be able to be fine with a splash but it drained his energy in the live action

While I cringed at alot of scenes and didnt enjoy it as much as other people but I hope they continue this live action. Mostly because of how popular it has made one piece in the western world. I've always believed that one piece deserves to be as popular as dragon ball or naruto and with this live action I'm beginning to see it becoming more global. Its obviously always been insanely popular but not to the level I believe it should be with how good it is.

I am a fan of manga for like 10+ years now, and i am rewatching anime currently, just for the sake of it and I agree with a lot of these points. The first episode is amazing and captured me completely, but at the third one i felt a little bit uneasy with the changes (even though i get what they are doing, and I think they did a good job of rewriting the plot to fit the restrictions). But it felt heartbreaking to catch myself to be bored\lacking investement emotionally, because of the "subtle" acting. Sanji was the only one that felt good, when he was saying goodbye, because he was actually emoting. Zoro is my favorite character of all time, but I can't help the feeling of edgelord too cool for school teenager in this( (come on, zoro caring about what others are wearing, because "he is wearing black", lmao) I think fishmen would work better with some more cgi, honestly, prostetics were done nicely, but they are supposed to be different sizes and all (especially arlong). Also, hachi is missing, that's just sad. Also also, netflix's obsession with darkening the scene get annoying sometimes. In a nutshell, it is definitely good, it has flaws and fucks up some things, but if they actually care to improve some things in the second season, it can be exceptionally good. I also asked a friend who doesn't know a thing about one piece to watch it and he watched it entirely and kind of liked it as a standalone thing. So it can actually get some people to open up to one piece. I just hope they pick up some classic OP goofy humor in the S02 instead of typical YA netflix series jokes, that would make a huge difference, imo.

Who used the word ""mid"" anymore?. A bunch of obnoxious complaining weebs of course. In my opinion I still felt the emotions with this one even without the exaggerations. And I kinda disagree with the costume and acting since they still work well for me. Even tho when you say "it isn't needed" but I'm still glad it exists, look at The Masks where it's live action but still manage to be cartoonish despite being made in the late 90s.

I liked the live action, but still find episodes of it to be misses. The season was like a 7.5 to me, which is still a good score but it definitely has some issues to be ironed out. The weakest episodes of the season were 3, 4, and 8. The great ending of 7 kinda got squandered on how fast the Arlong vs Luffy fight was. It's in no way better than past or current manga OP though. In fact Egghead island for a lot of people is pretty great. I'm just happy that's it's getting people to watch the anime/read the manga. That's the best possible outcome of this imo.

After the initial announcement I saw nothing but distaste from almost everyone online (at least in the circles I'm in) because, you know "live action anime bad". It wasn't until the first trailer came out and Oda's involvement was announced that people started warming up to it. Don't try to hit me with this revisionist history cause mf I was THERE.
