Documentary telling the story of the day that music rocked the world. Bob Geldof recalls how, after 12 weeks of manic preparation, the big day finally arrived. But would it work, would the punters watch, and more importantly would they part with their cash?
Bob Geldof and his team recall their fear of how the whole thing might fall apart at any minute. Stars from the day itself - Elton John, Queen, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, U2 and a whole host of others - remember walking out to face a crowd of 72,000 and a global audience of billions. And those who watched it at home, including Tony Blair, JK Rowling and Helen Fielding, recall how they didn't miss a minute of this extraordinary event.

Producer: Kate Werran

This documentary is awesome! Highlights the great performances of Live Aid but also gives us the behind the scenes accounts, many of which are downright hilarious!

Brilliant documentary. I remember the cherry pickers (Russian broadcast) and this is the first time I've seen that since the live broadcast all those years ago when life was simpler that today and.... you know the rest if you're over 35

Me too, I was 12 and watched it on telly from start to finish in Ireland. I vaguely remember the cherry picking scene and thinking the soviets had censored the band from playing, :)

So ironic how proud India was for the shoutout. Little did he know that an Indian by the name of Farouk Bulsara was actually about to steal the whole show!

Is this from the original Live aid 4 dvd set or the 20 years after Live Aid review one disk tying that came out 2005? Or is this something completely different? Just wondering bc I’m considering buying one of the 2 DVDs and wondering if this is on one of them. Interesting what was going on behind the scenes and was this the first concert to raise money for the poor like “We are the world”?

Andy Kershaw is spot on. The music of the eighties is pure blandness with few redeeming qualities.
@MALONEYCAMFIELD
@MALONEYCAMFIELD 11 жыл бұрын
Kershaw must be truly embarrassed to have been involved in this event as he hates mainstream music so much and it's the most mainstream event in music history!!! Not only did he have to interview Sting, Collins and Jones, the event launched the superstardom of U2, a band Kershaw has described as "a big bag of wind"!

Yep. Marillion best group ever... not because of one song Kaleigh but because the original lead singer Fish (happy birthday Fish).. they bounced right back with Steve Hogarth or h he is generally known as. No-one will give these the time of day... can't possibly make a song that 17 minutes long and make it good!

To put this in perspective, who other than u2 went on to make decent records, all the so called stars were past their best, and made no more hits. Their day lasted about a few years and that was that.

OK, how about I rattle off the list of artists that performed who went on and had major hits after Live Aid... besides U2. Status Quo Spandau Ballet Sade Sting Queen Phil Collins (with Genesis as well but also as a solo artist) Elton John Paul McCartney Run DMC Bryan Adams Simple Minds Alison Moyet The Pretenders Santana MADONNA! Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Tina Turner Neil Young Eric Clapton Duran Duran (reunion) + the many legendary artists who did perform are still, nearly 30 years later, considered just as, if not more, legendary. "made no more hits" in this context is, in other words, utter BS. I hope you feel foolish now...
