@ryanodonovan9497 Жыл бұрын
I agree with that, although as far as his introduction goes, I feel (as DutchBondFan pointed out when he recapped Live And Let Die) that Roger Moore's introduction was so basic; so uneventful. Sean Connery had a build towards his reveal via the cinematography and it made an instant impression when first seen saying "Bond... James Bond." Even George Lazenby had some build-up towards us first seeing him. But with Moore's first shot, he was just kind of there like he'd always been Bond.

@@ryanodonovan9497yeah he’s so charming and natural that he pretty much fit into the role. The movie showed he can blend in and do the job, even though it’s still a scary situation. When his Allies were killed or he’s mocked he’ll make a veiled threat or mock to convey he’s freaking pissed. Perhaps it made it seem too obvious he was going to win but in films like in Man with the Golden Gun I’m glad he was shown almost trapped and on edge to the point the villain got to him. Having “Good night” be the bumbling Bond girl that nearly gets him killed and him losing his patience was funny and yet too ridiculous at the same time. Still fun though

Roger Moore was a good actor and, by all accounts I have read, a good person. I just don’t happen to think that his Bond scripts and situations did him justice . . . With one exception: “For Your Eyes Only.” This was where I had the impression that he was portraying Ian Fleming’s James Bond. No attempt at smug cuteness, rather a straightforward spy adventure inspired by two Fleming short stories - plus a perilous situation from the novel of “Live And Let Die.” (And, none of his dated 70s fashions!) Fine direction, thrilling action, a solid script, and an excellent supporting cast. (Carole Bouquet - very hard to resist!) Moore was perfect as “The Saint.” And my list of favourite films includes “The Wild Geese” and “The Sea Wolves.” Watch him try something different in “The Naked Face” and “The Man Who Haunted Himself.” But his Bond films - including this one - should have been much better. “Moonraker” was simply ridiculous; and he overstayed his welcome with “A View To A Kill.”

Moore is three years older, and looks at least ten years younger than Connery did in the subpar "Diamonds Are Forever". Connery was phoning it in for the pay check in that one. Would have been better for his Bond legacy if he had never appeared in the movie. "Live And Let Die" is an overall major improvement over the previous Bond movie.
@trwent Жыл бұрын
The Bond franchise was really starting to grate on Connery, and he actually "retired" from it after his previous outing, You Only Live Twice. During the making of that movie, filmed mostly in Japan, he and his wife were hounded mercilessly by the Japanese press and fans, to the point where it was difficult for him to even go to the toilet in private. The next film, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, starred George Lazenby as 007, but Lazenby bowed out of the series after that outing and producer Cubby Broccoli convinced Connery to return for Diamonds are Forever, where he looked bored, overweight, and disinterested in a lackluster Bond film which also was not helped by Charles Gray's comically awful portrayal of Blofeld. Ironically, twelve years later, Connery would return to the part once again in the "unofficial" Bond film Never Say Never Again, where he actually looked much better than he did in Diamonds despite being twelve years older!!

Three British agents are killed, and M comes to Bond’s home instead of summoning him to headquarters - Really? The scene seems reminiscent of the “bedroom” comedies of the 1950s, featuring Doris Day or Rock Hudson. Fine for that genre, not for James Bond!

We see in the previous films, when there is a need for them to move fast, M and Moneypenny in submarine (''You Only Live Twice''), in O.H.M.S.S. Bond to M's house, M with Bond in Sir Donald's office and Moneypenny as police woman in the port (''Diamonds Are Forever''). Also Q goes where Bond is, in "Thunderball", "You Only Live Twice" and ''Diamonds Are Forever'' and informs M for a gadget in O.H.M.S.S. For a Bond film, should have Q (Desmond Llewelyn).
@thomaschacko63203 жыл бұрын
@@ΜακηςΛ-ε5ρ What you write is accurate, although in the first film, “Dr No,” Bond is summoned from the casino, again, because British agents have been killed. M asks him, “When do you sleep, 007?” as it’s 3 AM. (Bond responds, “Never on the company’s time, sir.”) In the films you cited, it fit the storyline to present some variations. In “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service,” for example, Bond goes to M’s house because he is officially on two weeks’ leave. M’s submarine in “You Only Live Twice” is a nice twist - not to mention Bond’s way of getting there! As for Q, my impression was that he is expected to be a field operative when necessary, providing Bond with the relevant equipment. (And as you noted, what a surprise that he was absent for an entire film!) Perhaps my problem is that “Live And Let Die” - like so much of the Moore era - was too lighthearted for my taste. I’m not amused when Bond has to meet M within the wreckage of a sunken ocean liner, but that particular film offends me on several levels. Oh, well, it’s just me - too nitpicky, I suppose.

To be fair, it's the silent-hours and Bond is on leave having just finished an assignment.

@@Hawthorne-Studios True. But I cringed when M named the murdered agents, and Bond’s response was, “Oh, Baines, I rather liked him. He and I shared the same boot-maker.” No shock, no sorrow, no anger, as Sean Connery could show in his first two films. It was moments like this that almost made Moore’s portrayal a parody. (Although he jettisoned that approach in “For Your Eyes Only.”) Of course, blowing up the villain like a balloon, doesn’t help!

In German synchronization "The technology makes it possible". In that time we had with Rainer Brandt a brillant synchronization-director. Bond, Spencer/Hill, The persuaders...it`s more funny than in the orignial. When Bond fights in "Diamonds are forever" Bambi and Thumper he says nothing. In the German version he talks all the time: "I did not exspect a circus act". "The jungle is calling". "Mom, I'll stay here" (between Tumpers legs). In the pool when Leiter arrives: "Sweet, isn`it?" In "Tunderball" Bond to Colonel Bovar: "You shouldn't have opened the door yourself". In German: "You shouldn't wear penny heels with your flat feet"

Madeline Smith herself admitted that had been chosen for the role of Miss Caruso due to her bust size. unfortunately, she is present in only five takes in this scene.

Its such a strange introduction for Moores bond, he is not in the opening credits then we go straight to what appears to be his house. Still though a great film which it needed to be after the connery era, roger moore is my fav bond.

James Bond's most iconic wristwatch - his magnetic field generating/circular saw feature Rolex Submariner 5513 in "Live and Let Die"(1973)! Second most iconic - his homing device detector/radio direction finder Seiko G757 5020 Sports 100 digital watch in "Octopussy"(1983)!😀

How do you know he smoked and drank in excess?

I imagine he had to work extra hard to take care of himself to look the part. Makeup probably helped quite a bit too

Moore wasn't a big smoker or drinker. Not to excess anyways as far as I know.
