Some odd jams from a couple of gigs over the weekend. Mike plays a killer drum solo at the Ram in Bath, followed by some demolished action from me. Then a modal jam over what eventually goes back to being Voodoo Child and a little ZZ Top action for the last song of the afternoon at the Regency Weston Super Mare. I had an issue with the wifi on my camera at that gig, so I shot a couple of clips of Weston Seafront to put over the top of it. (Weston is my hometown by the way, if you didn't know). The shots are nothing fancy, I just balanced a Panasonic LX100 on a few walls when I went out for a bike ride, but you get the idea of what it looked like that weekend.
Thanks to Laura and Tim, who both sent me phone footage, that I was able to sync with my audio recording, meaning it wasn't a total loss!
The audio is all recorded on a Tascam DR40 and synced later. I run it through Ozone to boost the level a bit and give it a polish, but it''s just a room mic so very representative of the noise we're making at the time.

Sounds really good! You don’t hear that kind of quality here in San Antonio very much. You have to drive north about an hour and a half to Austin then it’s everywhere. There’s so many good players there they’ve been known to pay the venues to play! Your slide technique is incredible. Reminds me of a friend of mine, Buddy Whittington. Well thanks for the great videos Ben. Keep them coming.

Thanks, Graeme! You gotta get the right venue for this stuff. There are some places where Brown Eyed Girl, is too obscure for them! Fortunately there are still a few isolated pockets of music lovers still out there.

Great musical ideas, feel, and phrasing!!! I didn't see your Marshall on stage; were you using the Humboldt?

Very kind, thank you! I use the Marshall for band gigs. You can see it in the 1st clip when I move my ass out of the way, ha! In the 2nd one, it's slightly in front of me and to my left, so basically a few feet from where the camera is. I've synced it with audio from a Tascam DR40 which was on top of that fruit machine in the corner. The camera audio was a pretty savage mix, as you might imagine with the amp so close and pointing straight at it. I use the Humboldt for backing track gigs, as it puts me in the same space as the band. I like to pretend on these blues/whatever I'm playing here gigs, that I'm in the 1970's! Using an amp is part of that experience I guess, although in many ways it's easier playing out the back of a PA cab, both logistically and from a playing perspective. (For me anyway) Cheers, Ben.
