This is an absolutely fantastic lesson. Focusing on the sticking rather than the pattern made this really stick with me.

Amazing lesson! I've been struggling with Latin for a long time now and this lesson has really helped. As someone who started out for years as a rock drummer its been hard to break through to other genres, so lessons like this make my day. You've got yourself a sub!

Fantastic lesson. I go to a Jazz Jam group and they always want to play Caravan. Didn't really know where to start but tis is great. I'll hopefully be able to play this on the next Jam night.

Hi Geoffry, this video is incredibly helpful for me. I am playing drums for two weeks now and I am not a fan of transcribed sheets. So it's nice that you explain the rhythmn/flavor (I don't know how to call it) so that people who learn "by ear" can really understand what's going on (e.g., at 27:30 )

I was actually able to learn the groove off this video! having the sticking marked instead of trying to learn the “notes” made it so much easier

Charlie was a superstar 50 years ago. I know him as a scholar. A buddy of mine drove to Munic and took lessons for 25€ an hour. Today thats about 125€. After 1 year he told my buddy he cant show him anymore,and my buddy went on as a pro-drummer in a Vienna Orchestra. Amazingly Carlie still alive.

Great lesson! However, your choice of metronome sound is enough to drive one insane! Thank you for the excellent breakdown of this pattern. With enough effort even an intermediate player such as myself will eventually learn it.

I don’t think he was thinking baião when we was playing the hands - after all the Baião is Brazilian and not Afro - Cuban and the rhythm is played traditionally with the feet . You are also missing a note on the a of 4 ( which would make it a variation of a baião if you want to look at it that way )
@Dcaina003 жыл бұрын
Exactly! That's more like a songo groove, baião its a different thing.
