John, Maybe it's just me and my small tablet, but when you flip the slab and secure it, at 1:35 into the video, I think I see the end of the slab up off the bench and it pulls down when you drive the screw into the dog. Maybe there was dust under the slab, but it appears that the first side is still not completely flat and on the bench. You notice it?
@John_Malecki6 жыл бұрын
its flat. Flatness is relative to the top side of the slab after it is flattened. The hold downs also flex and give the illusion the slab is moving more than it is. It is also a whole slab, so i dont need the bottom perfectly flat across. I have the center perfectly flat for reference on the top. Hope that helps tom!

Do you have a video of how you attach metal/wood bases to a slab piece? I am interested in seeing this done to alleviate expansion and contraction without the possibility of cracking your work. If you do then I may not be looking hard enough. Maybe a little commentating about how it’s done as well....

Hey John a few questions if you don't mind me asking? 1) What oil/wax sealer do you use/recommend? 2) can you buy steel bow ties like you used? or did you make them? The reason I ask about the oil is I'm in the throws of making my 1st live edge slab kitchen bench/breakfast bar and want to make sure I seal it right. I don't like the stodgy look of some varnish as it looks thick and plastic some times. I've seen where the varnish is thinned with turps maybe that would be a better option for me. Any recommendation? would be grateful... Cheers
