I upgraded my camera from an A7r2 to a7R5 and lightroom classic desktop 2021 would not support its new raw files. So, I switched to Capture One because it has always kept up with Sony's new RAW files. I think I've been using Lr for about 10 years. Now I have some serious learning curve and why I have enjoyed watching your tutorials and sessions. They've been very helpful in getting up to speed-- thanks! In Lr my import settings intentionally flatten the image like those S-log videos. I then adjust contrast as needed, sometimes using Zero Contrast to find the center of the histogram. In C1 the Linear Response option in Base Characteristics is my preference. In a lot of your editing sessions, you "resort" to Linear Response for the diametric reasons of both taming high dynamic range AND soft, misty low DR. It's almost for anytime you're alone or with someone. ;) Some of your editing sessions urge adjusting the base image settings so they are prepared for Style application. Another one said to save basics until the end. Which workflow is the best practice?

Thank you ever so much, Paul! Kind regards

Paul, I'm very pleased you included my "Cromwell's Tree" shot, thank you. I always watch (and enjoy) your videos, but normally on a large screen smart TV, which means I cannot comment immediately. Those wires are normally almost invisible and maybe the sun caught them at just that moment. Certainly I didn't notice them in the viewfinder. They sag a little, so can't be selected by clicking each end or even by AI after drawing a box round each one. I was about to bin the file when I thought of you and I'm glad I did - you confirmed that I should have done. (Several days later I returned and at the expense of very wet and muddy feet stood under the wires to get a similar view, but the light was very poor then and the tree doesn't stand out. I'm going to try what I learned from the "Sticks" image to hopefully improve that).

I think Ken's photo highlighted the inadequacy, in 2024, of C1's noise reduction. DXO-Photolab V8 would have allowed the tones to have been raised without exposing the noise and improving detail from the shadows. DXO's noise reduction is carried out as part of the demosaicing enabling edges and colours to be better detected. Noise reduction is not only beneficial for high ISO images but lower ISO where you want to need shadows higher than you might normally do. I would really like to see C1 build on their AI knowledge and signicantly enhancing noise reduction in the current competitive market. Maybe or no interest to studio and wedding photographers but they could throw the rest of us a bone? 😀 It would certainly provide incentives for upgrades.

For serious denoise and sharpening I use an external application. C1 is simply not up to the task. I love C1P, but the development team needs to dig deep into the fundamentals and update some of the basic tools. Other apps are not falling behind, they are progressing rapidly.

Agreed - I think for 3-4 years now we've collectively been seeing other applications and processors advancing on noise reduction way faster than Capture One. It's definitely time for the Copenhagen guys to up their game in this respect...

The issue that Paul experienced with the dust removal tool was present in the beta...

Could not agree more. The denoise and sharpening algorithms of C1 have not been improved since years…

Is having a match look a copyright infringement?
@ChrisSallisАй бұрын
Why would it be a copyright infringement? Would you go take the exact same image as another photographer and have it edited identically? It gives the look of another image not a direct replica. Edit on of your own images then use match look on the exact same image and it’s still different
@notdisclosed7053Ай бұрын
At least here in England, the answer is a clear “no”. Copyright does not apply to an idea or a style, it must be something more tangible. Match look is merely applying a style, a concept.

Literal answer : No. There's a lot of more complicated answers on the subject, but no - it's not. Whether people *like* that is a different matter.
