Never understood why people bitch about the PG-13 rating. Die Hard 5 proved that being rated R doesn't mean shit if the movie is just garbage. This PG-13 movie was way better than that rated R movie.

I thought this was a good Die Hard film. The themes of how John Mclain is becoming sorta out dated and a dinosaur are really interesting. I really love the idea that when you risk your life and play hero all the time, you're gonna end up old and alone more than likely because people won't be sure when they'll see you alive again or if they're safe themselves.

*Justin(whatever his characters name was):* "Holy Shit! You just killed a helicopter with a car" *John:* "Yea I was out of bullets" Is one of the best on-screen jokes ever. It's not that awesome in hindsight but the first time I watched this movie and he said that it was the funniest shit I've ever heard in an action movie 🤣

61) At the end of the film we can see Holly's plane, just before the old lady shouts at Thornburg. The "NEA" letters can clearly be seen washed out at the upper half and another caption becomes visible. The next time we see it from a different angle, when Marvin arrives, and the upper half is just fresh white painted. 62) Just after John gets thrown off the left wing of the terrorists' 747 - and we know he opened the fuel dump valve before hitting the ground - the aircraft swings onto the runway for take-off and opens throttles. Then when John lights the fuel trail, the line of fire that follows the plane down the runway is seen to follow the #3 (RIGHT inboard) engine. But in the next shot, as the plane climbs higher, it's the #2 (LEFT inboard) engine that blows up, triggering an explosion of the entire plane. 63) After Grant is sucked into the plane engine, subsequent shots show it clean of any blood or gore. 64) Stuart takes a rifle with him when he goes to fight McClane on the airplane wing. It disappears just before he goes outside. 65) On the incredibly remote chance that the fuel did light, the stream of fuel would burn far too slowly to ever catch up to a 747 traveling at take off speed (roughly 155 knots or 180 mph). 66) When Grant is pushed into the engine at the end it would have caused serious damage to the engine. 747 engines can ingest a large bird and still work but a whole person including clothing etc. would cripple it. 67) The bad guys adjust the ILS system to set ground level for 200' below actual ground level in order to cause the Windsor flight to crash. This is not possible because the ILS system uses antennas mounted on the ground around the runway which send out signals to the receiving plane. The system is based on how far and where the plane is relative to the antennas. The antennas would have to be physically moved in order to change where the ILS glide-slope would be. 68) At the end of the film, Richard Thornburg has been taken off the plane by person or persons unknown, still badly dazed and immobile from having been electrocuted, and left to lay on the snow-covered tarmac. No one else on any flight is injured, yet all receive prompt medical assistance from dozens of responding airport paramedics. No professional paramedic would leave an injured man in the snow and attend to other people who do not require assistance. 69) At the end when they show the shot of all the aircraft, they are all parked very close together and in skewed positions. If they had all followed the same landing path as indicted they would never have been able to park in such positions.

It's a shame how much people were hating on this movie for the fact it was rated PG-13 and for huge action scenes. There were sooooo many impossible things in Die Hard that aren't humanly possible it's not even funny. I think Live Free or Die Hard is the best movie since the 1st, and after the awful 5th one, it's funny to see how people softened up on this movie a lot since.

the Die Hard movies seem to be stretched out in terms of location. The first one was one building, the 2nd was the airport plus a little more, the third one was around a city and the 4th one was basically everywhere. So I kind of expected this to be on a big scale. I like LFoDH more as a movie on it's own but i still can happily appreciate that its part of the Die Hard franchise.

Firstly, I think DH4 was a grate movie, that kept the core of the DH franchise while making it accessible to younger audiences. About them not deciding what they want the franchise to be, think about this. HD4 came out 5yrs ago. So if you were 13 back then, you'd be 18 now. So the old fans will get back what they "lost" and the new fans are now old enough to see the R18 version! Seems to me they knew exactly what they were doing.

DH3 lost its way half way though and had a forgettable (helicopter) ending ...whereas 2 had a great ending - fight on the wing then the epic fuel fire line... i loved it anyway. DH 3 seemed to be outshone by Speed which came out before it and even stole the phone calls idea from Speed.. still good film though I just hated the boat scene when they had an (Adam West) Batman type escape.
@orinanime
@orinanime 10 жыл бұрын
ogfunk187 Helicopter ending was completely plausible. Whereas the airplane fight and fuel line fire could NEVER happen. What makes Die Hard better than other mindless action movies is they maintain some level of plausibility. It's what sets them above junk like Commando, Expendables 2, the Rambo sequels, and so many others. I'll happily admit that the fall onto the barge and the escape as it exploded were ridiculous but it was still better than 2 & 5. And the phone call thing wasn't borrowed from Speed. It comes from the original screenplay when it was written years before for Brandon Lee and called "Simon Says".

I do not get the hate this film gets, most of the hate comes off as really short sighted. I think this film does manage to capture the aspect of the first Die Hard film that I really liked and that is the social commentary that it provides in a relevant and (for the most part) clever way. The theme for this film is the old way vs. the new way (a similar theme that the James Bond movie, Skyfall tackles with), which I think is a suitable theme for the movie because of the time gap between this and the previous film, also it is set in a post 9/11 America and the fear of terrorism is even bigger than it was in 1995. Basically McClane is an analogue cop in a digital world, basically a fish out of water. I think it gets unjustified crap from the fanbase, for the case of this movie it is the PG-13 rating. Really people? You saying just because a movie is not gory and says the word fuck multiple times, that makes it bad? Just watch the uncut version you shallow morons, plus story and character is what should matter in a Die Hard movie and the censorship doesn’t effect the movies narrative at all in my opinion.
@jdxsr85
@jdxsr85 10 жыл бұрын
It deserves the hate for completely ruining the character of McClane and turning him into an indestructible Jack Bauer knock off. Also, Willis displays none of the charm and charisma that he had in the first three films. It's clear Bomback and Wiseman don't understand what made the other films so special. The PG-13 rating is just the final slap in the face of the fans all because the studio had no faith in another R rated Die Hard film. They should've just left it alone after the excellent DHWAV if that was the case. Btw that uncut version is even worse than the PG-13 version.

I was good with this movie. Ratings aside, it was an entry that I watched with my dad a few years back, and really enjoyed the action, the dialogue, the production values, etc. As far as sequels go, I found it to be much better than Die Hard 2, and slightly better than Die Hard 3. Do I need F-bombs all over the place? Not really. Would it have mattered if they were there in the first place? Not really. I am not that anal about the writing, and in the end, I was entertained. And yes, I do own it on Blu-Ray in my video library. If there is to be a Die Hard 6, I hope that it merges the best ideas of 3 & 4, and totally avoids the mess that was 5 (which I also own, thanks to OCD).

While I don't consider this a good movie or a faithful sequel to the first Die Hard movie, I actually kinda like it as a guilty pleasure. Yeah, it's stupid and cheesy, but it's something I can sit down, watch and, in the end, say that I had a fun time with it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it is good. I'm just saying I had a good time with it. But I do agree that it should have just been the rated R movie it should have been. That, and it should have been renamed "Action Movie 5000 and 1".

You forget. John McClane has survived bungee jumping off the top of a 30 story building with a fire hose, ejecting from a cockpit just before it explodes, being thrown off the wing of an airplane, an exploding subway train, a exploding ship, not to mention has taken out large groups of men single-handedly. The stuff in Live Free or Die Hard wasn't that much of a stretch.

Also, Live Free or Die Hard was filmed to be a Rated R film. However, when the filmmakers submitted it in to the MPAA, they gave it a PG-13 rating, so they were forced to quickly re-edit the movie to PG-13 so they wouldn't be in trouble with the studio. As for the dubed lines in the "R" & "PG-13" cuts, they werrn't satisfied with that the dialog in the script sounded like, so they asked Bruce Willis to just say ramdom crap during the day of filming, and then added the new lines of boths cuts

A human being. An everyday New York cop with a foul mouth and a rebellious nature toward authority. He had to use his detective skills, street smarts and ingenuity to stay alive and save the day (Unlike McClane in DH4 who just shoots things). He cries when he thinks he's going to die or when he's unable to save everyone. He felt pain and his vulnerability was one of the main draws of Die Hard. He was a guy we could relate to and feel close to. How can we relate to a guy who surfs fighter jets?

I'm 33 years old and I like "Live Free" a little more than Die Hard with a Vengeance. The uninspired and rushed ending of DHWAV killed it for me. I was like That's it?

The PG-13 rating didn't detract from the movie though in my opinion. Having a few 'fucks' and whatnot wasn't essential to this being a very good film. I'd put it above/on par with Die Hard With a Vengeance.

I thought Live Free or Die Hard was worthy of being involved in the series. To me it is a Die Hard movie, even if it was nerfed to be more "Family-Friendly" John McClane didn't change and I think that's what mattered...

the movie is good despite which version it is but what my opinion is about the rating difference between the two versions the pg-13 cut and the r cut both have differences the r version apprently has more cussing and a lot more violence while the pg-13 version is a lot more clean despite the violence still and both versions of live free or die hard is okay

Im so surprised how much people hate on this movie. Some people seriously think the 5th one is BETTER than this one!? Are you serious? Live Free or Die Hard had a great script, funny lines, great action and is a fantastic movie in its own right. Its personally my 2nd favorite in the series. One a side note, this movie introduced me to the series and the first die hard is one of my top 10 favorite movies.

I think Live Free or Die Hard (unrated version) is the best one out of the series. Or, at least the best sequel. I think it has the best use of the Yippee Kiyay line, and had the best set pieces.

I'll admit, I've only seen parts of the first two Die Hard films, and I have Die Hard With a Vengeance on vhs. I enjoyed Live Free or Die Hard as a film on its own. As a Die Hard movie? Couldn't really say.

It was the LAST good die hard movie. Regardless of anything wrong with the 4th film it’s leaps and bounds better than part 5. I was excited to see part 5 after seeing part 4 and it being surprisingly good. Part 5 got the R rating but it was terrible. It felt like a mindless action film with John Mcclane in it. One of the things I liked about parts 1-4 is that McClane took a beating. He was basically bleeding all over the place at the end of each film but he survived. But in part 5 I don’t remember john even getting a scratch on him, correct me if I’m wrong. The action wasn’t all that and even Jai Courtney/Bruce Willis’s father/son story imo took away the essence of the first 4. Like was John the main character or was it his son? In the first 4 films there was really good dialogue and exchanges, shit talking between John and whatever side supporting character. Even the third with Samuel L Jackson they had some really good onscreen chemistry. Zeus was an important character BUT he didn’t take or interfere with John’s onscreen time. Part 5 I couldn’t tell if John was the main character because it felt like John was there for the ride as the sidekick. And maybe that was intentional but it made the film fall flat imo.

I think that the only reason this is lower down on this rating is because the new movie is forcing it to be the oddball out, I personally thought about it as the perfect villain for John McLain , and the best Sidekick 4 him too. Using Jeremy's rating system I give it a "buy it on blue ray"

Why PG13? Cause those teens/youth that watched DH1 are now parents and because of nostalgia will want to bring their kids to that may or may not be to be under 13 to watch the latest die hard. It's the same reason GI Joe and Transformers were also made PG13 That being said I liked it as a DH movie.

I think it's cool enough to be called one of the Die Hard movies. even we didn't see uncle John cursing or saying violent words, but the role he plays show us that It's really a die hard movie. we saw uncle John sharpness and foolhardiness in the movie, the way he fights... I mean he's not too good at martial art, he always lose the tough enemy when it comes to this close combat fighting scene, but what make him always win is his sharpness.

Live Free or Die Hard is both a great action movie, as well as the second best Die Hard film of all time (people don't consider 5 a Die Hard film, so I never watched it). Bruce Willis is still McClane, even though he's got a bit older, and some of the action scenes are absurd even by DH standards. Now, regarding the rating, it's frustrating to me that they released an "unrated" version on the DVD with the theatrical. Like you pointed out, F-bombs and extra gore are inserted into the unrated one with very poor editing, leading me to believe the PG-13 version movie was the one they wanted to make. As long as Willis can be McClane, I'm ok with it, just as long as they make up their minds first.

Since I haven't seen the first three 'Die Hard' movies,.I simply enjoyed 'Live Free or Die Hard' as an action movie. I thought the action was really well done and it baffles me that there still is no Unrated version of the movie on Blu-ray. I mean, they just rereleased the movies on Blu-ray and once again 'LFODH' still doesn't have an Unrated version OR a slot for the new 'Die Hard'! They could've made a slot or simply wait for the Blu-ray release of the new movie and put them together.

People are a bit harsh on this movie, yeah its rated PG13 but they do the best they can to keep the Die Hard Spirit alive in the confines of that rating, John McClane still barely makes it out of all the fights (while some situations are preposterous), and the story and villain are pretty neat. And it had some fun action in it, so yeah I enjoyed this one

Live Free or Die Hard was a fun movie. Granted, it was not true to the form of other Die Hard films, the way die hard (excuse the pun) fans wanted it to be, but as an action film it was one of the best to come out in the past 6 years.

the thing I liked about this movie was it was a return to Action for Bruce, as a about to retire - tired - uninterested cop, who wants to get this done with and go have a beer.. but with DieHard 5, he somehow looks younger(than is Live Free or Die Hard) and ready for action, which is a bit off putting for me.. does anyone else agree with me??

I agree with bruce willis' comment on the pg-13ness. He said he didn't like the decision, but that if he was watching the movie for the first time and didn't know what rating it was, he would assume it was rated R because of the intensity and violence in it. And the first two times I saw this movie I assumed it was an 18 (the british version of rater R). Then when I found out it wasn't I watched it again today and I didn't even care tbh. It's a really good film, pg-13 or not :)

For the people asking if the Rated R Version is on Blu-Ray. The Die Hard Collections are the PG-13 version. The standalone Blu-Ray is the only way to get the Rated R/Uncut version.

I enjoyed the movie, but I cant believe that Jeremy didnt touch upon the fact that Mclane is basically a superhero in this movie as in Die Hard 1 he was just another normal day cop in the wrong place at the wrong time who was in this situation that he had to get out of. That bothered me more than the PJ 13 rating right there.
