On a rainy day at Wimbledon, defending champion Carlos Alcaraz survived a big scare against Frances Tiafoe. Catherine, David and Matt assembled under cover to discuss the match, Alcaraz's ups and downs, and his incredible fifth set record. There's also much excitement about Emma Raducanu as she reached the second week of a slam for the first time since 2021 by defeating Maria Sakkari. How hyped are we? Elsewhere, there's chat about Paula Badosa and Daria Kasatkina setting up a fourth round clash, Jasmine Paolini backing up her Roland Garros run, and the impressive form of Coco Gauff.
Visit the Wimbledon Shop at shop.wimbledon.com/ and check out the stunning new Wimbledon Collection, including everything the White 1877 T-Shirt that Catherine is wearing, the Harrington jacket that both Matt and Catherine are wearing, and the Core Performance 1/4 Zip Training Top that David is wearing!

I was in centre court in 1999 for my first ever day at Wimbledon on the day of the McEnroe and Graf semi-final. I had just bought a resale ticket to get in. Then they announced Steffi had pulled out - I was as angry as McEnroe!! ... They were due to play against Kournikova and Bjorkman. Davenport, who still in the singles, was playing doubles instead I remember.

What's crazy is how Sakkari is still ranked in the Top Ten. She's had a poor year except for one good clay-court tourney--I forget which--where I think she got to the final or semifinal. But she's seldom looked like a top player this season.

On the Alcaraz 5 set record... It's good that he can find that gear when he needs it, but it's also a bit *worrying (in the context of his future all-time great status) he's had so many 5 setters already. I wonder how many 5 setters the big 3 had at that point in their respective careers. The big 3 seemed to be able to shift into gear at will and play lights out tennis for 3 sets in a row. Honestly? That's very rare for Alcaraz. It feels like almost every match is closer than it needs to be. I also understand he is only 21 and still has likely 1-3 years before he hits "prime".

How many times would the Big Three have been eliminated at Majors if they had been stuck with the 2 out of 3 sets format? How different would their records be? Is that a Matt’s stat already? Women don’t have the luxury of being mediocre for 3 sets and then pulling themselves together. Carlos would be out today.

Emma Raducanu is certainly on a roll reminiscent of her New York GS victory. The minefield here will be more tricky but she is playing great. Call me drunk, but I can see her winning the tournament.

Is it just me or do other people find the conversations about who should be on centre or court no.1 really boring.

I dont care what others think (especially u haters), but Emma look really solid today.. I wasn't sure how far she can go after 1st match but now, i wouldn't put semi's beyond her. & IF she can get to the final, she GONNA win this whole thing 😊😊
