Thank you for great teaching Travis. Would you do a video on how to develop movements to counter in randori? On important points such as how not to move and how to move etc. Thanks always for your generous sharing of your knowledge and experience.

24:18 You should make a video about the techniques that you would remove from the Judo curriculum (as a competition technique and/or martial arts technique) and why. You mention here that you would remove Hiza Guruma and in another video, you mention that you would never teach Hane Goshi to a high level competitor.
@shakazulu6512
@shakazulu6512 3 жыл бұрын
I think Travis means hane goshi though when he says hiza guruma. Look at what he's showing when he's saying hiza guruma. He just confused those two, which is fair enough. Most people do sasae rather than hiza guruma in randori and in competition and you really only get to do hiza at the start of your judo to learn the difference .

@@shakazulu6512 Gotcha. Wasn't sure if he was talking Hiza and then immediately switching to the Harai/Hane/Uchi differences.
@alLEDP
@alLEDP 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah because he was just showing Hiza/Sasae at the end without complaining so I guess he meant Hane Goshi
@shakazulu6512
@shakazulu6512 3 жыл бұрын
@@emperorjimmu9941 Those differences only matter from the point of view of history of martial arts and tradition. They have nothing to do with how effective your judo is. I'm old now and at the stage when I can play around with my judo and be nerdy about the names and stuff like that but Travis aims at younger kids who can achieve sth in the sport. They will have time to learn all the Japanese names but at the moment they should concentrate on getting better at doing stuff not talking about it

24:48 that is not hiza guruma, that is hane goshi, the comment that hiza guruma should be banned applies to which throw?

I’m guessing you said the Hane goshi is garbage and should be taken out. And not the Hiza Guruma😂 which is an awesome technique.

at 24:45 he is confusing hiza guruma with hane goshi. Hiza guruma looks more like a Sasae where the leg is higher

It’s fine that you called my O-Uchi to Tomoe dumb . I have been able to get O-Uchi to Yoko Tomoe Nage to work in tournament, but it is risky. For me it has worked best on BBJ guys in class ,but not so well on Judo guys .
@joewells5538
@joewells5538 3 жыл бұрын
Jimmy Alderson I look for the reaction when I go for the O-Uchi. If it doesn’t work and he is reacting forward that’s when I drop for the Yoko Tomoe Nage .
@TravisStevensgrappling
@TravisStevensgrappling 3 жыл бұрын
It's working for you because of the novice reaction by your opponents. Most people at the higher levels just step inside the foot which gets their opponent to back up in fear due to conditioning their opponents to react in that way. I think I'm going to start today's live session with this explanation.

I don't know if I agree with that. I know a lot of judo players who are afraid of taking falls. Also, talking falls for some people doesn't seem like the smartest thing to do.
