Let's make learning judo fun and easy! In this workshop, I want to continue the conversation about grip fighting and expand on where to put your hands on the gi in order to throw your partner effectively!

I love that you’ve been focusing on grips, not just cool throws. So important. You can’t throw what you can’t control

This is so helpful for bjj to me bc this grip fighting is easier to learn for me than the throws themselves. And everyone learns throws and not grip fighting

I'm a BJJ purple belt who likes cross training Judo, NOTHING makes me feel like a whitebelt more than grip fighting with a good Judoka. This is so valuable and under appreciated

Awesome stuff, very much appreciated. Judo instruction is on a rather low level in many, if not most, places. This is what we need! From someone who walks the walk. Thank you Sir. 💪🏻🏆 Mark

More amazing gripping content. While the solo training content you have produced is great especially right now with Covid. It's things like these videos on gripping or set up tactics that been the most beneficial to me. After nearly 18 months struck being unable to go to bjj, judo. Because its helped bring back my intellectual interest in grappling. These are great resources that I have been pouring over repeatedly, making notes etc. After 2 damaged disks put me out of training last year, a week before a competition I'd been training months for, only to have to work my butt off in physio/rehab so I was finally cleared to train again. Only to have Covid write off another year. I had pretty much given up on grappling as a past time. Thanks for helping to relight the fire. Peace from the 🇬🇧.

Thanks to your videos I've started thinking about grips the way I think about positions on the ground. You don't submit while you're still in guard, you advance to a dominant position first. Is it technically possible to lock in an Ezekiel while you're still in guard? Yes. Does it need to be plan A? Probably not. Same with throws, you don't go for the throw until you've got the dominant gripping situation. Just because you could sell out for an Uchi Mata from neutral position doesn't mean it's going to win you a championship. Thanks as always for the videos, I really think the work you're doing will have a tangible impact on the level of judo in places like where I live (rural arkansas) where's there's hardly any judo going on, and probably less active blackbelts than you could count on both hands.

Hi coach, I asked a while back on one of your other videos about "pocket grips" and you described this as "Settling". I know this a massive delay but could you please elaborate on this? As I have seen some books that recommend double shoulder or pocket grips?
