Might've gotten really tired and not happy on this vegan challenge because if you notice other vegans they eat a lot more then what you have been eating each day. Vegans require more calories then normal non vegans because dietary thermogenisis. So even though it is a challenge to stay below a certain budget just beware that to truly thrive on this lifestyle you should eat a lot more including for a active guy.

+Steph Payn do you not read the description of the video?
@tiffanyyounb69648 жыл бұрын
+Steph Payn agreed but he also would have had more available to eat if he had focused more on legumes and grains. Those are super cheap. One cheap trick is to buy wheat berries instead of flour. He could have used that in place of rice or to make his own flour. This would have given him room in his budget for higher calorie vegan foods like avocado or a little more coconut or some mollasses.

Made the vegan crumpets and caramelised apple and banana sauce this morning for breakfast. Divine for a cold winter morning! SUPER easy to make, I cooked the apples to soften a while before adding bananas and added cinnamon to the batter. Super filling and tasty! Love your channel. Please take this training tip, how it is intended - to help. If you're gonna do anything requiring stability, keep the sneakers for running or bouncy activities, and ditch them for anything else. I would invite you to try using Chuck Taylor All Stars or a cheap pair of plimsoles instead. It's a well-known and universal practice for doing power movements. You'll find with a hard, less-compressing shoe, that you've got more stability when doing things like squats, you'll be much safer because the opposite - running trainers, are designed to cushion and dissipate force like when your toes hit the ground forcing you onto the front of your feet ready to push off for your next step. Hard, flat shoes, even something like a skate shoe won't leak power from the ground as you push down and the force transfers up your body into the bar to get you to the stop of the squat. Your ankles are also less likely to cave in as the shoes won't be pushing you forward and there will no cushion making you bouncy. Best of luck with those hellish Crossfit workouts!

To do vegan right, I'd imagine, you'd need to know a good bit about food/nutrition in order to get everything you need including fiber and protein to keep regular and feel satisfied, not hungry. I was talking w/my friend, a registered dietitian, she said that done right this diet is great. She also said that there are a few things we get from meat that we can't get from a vegan/vegetarian diet so supplements help. That being said are you feeling hungry because of the $50 limitation or are you missing something from the diet??
@Babu-kr3cr8 жыл бұрын
+JD S He isn't eating enough. He is doing strenuous work outs and ate a small stack of pancakes, a mini muffin and unknown quantities of leftovers and miscellaneous. I don't remember everything he had left over, but I don't think it was very much.
@ECsponger28 жыл бұрын
+JD S Whole-food, plant-based, well-varied diet is superior. Meat causes inflammation/cardiovascular risks, etc. There is nothing that you cannot get in plant form. B12 is one of the more difficult, but fortified foods, a simple B12 supplement takes care of it. Eat all the veggies and fruit you want, highly restrict the processed foods, and you win.

Lots of body builders and just people who are trying to build muscle look for ways to get the most protein and in their case beans and nut and whatnot would be helpful as well as pea/soy protein powder. I think his comment about adding beans is a good one for people who fall into that category.

I will say that these recipes look great but overall they are not nutritionally very good for vegans. Vegans need to be eating legumes with their carbs and fats to get adequate protein. Some of the earlier days without any legumes could have south of 20grams of protein per day - not sustainable!

You should say what you ate for the rest of the day anyway since this is supposed to show how to eat enough on $50 a week. I say that is hard to do unless you are some kind of genius or eat lousy food. Day five you ate leftovers and pancakes and a muffin, plus some unknown items.
@Babu-kr3cr8 жыл бұрын
You are telling me theoretically, but I have tried it and it is hard. I do know how to cook also. It is just hard when you want to have a certain amount of volume, quality and variety. If you want to live off a bag of conventional white rice that is $10 for 20 lbs, whatever, but it isn't very nutritious. Then try to buy that same rice in brown and organic, and it is like $3/lb.
@Babu-kr3cr8 жыл бұрын
A lot of farmers claim to be organic when they aren't, hence their lack of certification. If they use integrated pest management they claim that is the same as being organic when it isn't. You still haven't given concrete examples, just theories based on what is going around the Net.

what's wrong with gluten as a vegan or in general?
@ob3l1sk8 жыл бұрын
+snasty99 nothing, i think he was just saying he was out of it. some people are allergic (Coeliac/celiac disease), some claim to be 'sensitive' to it (which i think is kinda BS).
@LifebyMikeG8 жыл бұрын
+snasty99 I wasnt out of it, I just need a little break from it! it's alway interesting to remove thing from your diet and see how you feel. Your health is very personal and only you know what's best by experimenting.
@snasty998 жыл бұрын
+Brothers Green Eats you kinda answered Shawn's comment but I'm still wondering, for you, how do you feel with gluten in your diet versus without? (I'm aware of the celiac thing though, regardless thanks shawn)
@LifebyMikeG8 жыл бұрын
+snasty99 it really depends, one of the biggest issues with gluten is the way it's processed. So a lot of times we only eat white flour which is missing some of the vital nutrients from the actual wheat grain. It's delicious but it certainly will weigh me down a bit if I eat too much which is why I try to manage my intake. Recently i've been making sourdough bread with whole wheat flour which I can eat and feel fine since it has more nutrients and also the sourdough process breaks down the gluten and makes it much more digestible.
@itsalwayshalloweenexceptwh51188 жыл бұрын
+Shawn There are some people who get diarrhea from it, could be that it triggers their IBS. My friend is not allergic to gluten, but is allergic to milk. She does get diarrhea if she eats more than a specific amount of gluten stuff though. I do agree that there are many people (or there were during the hype) who say they are sensitive to it but don't seem to have any real symptoms to show for it.
