My mom started in hospital admin under several nuns in a catholic hospital and worked about 15 years there before it closed for a year or two (and was rebuilt later) and she has outstanding respect for nuns from that time. All the hospital food was made from scratch by the sisters. It was made i ln bulk and most was frozen and reheated, but my mom still says they made the best goulash she's ever had. When Vance asked if you'd force catholic hospitals to perform abortions, my mom snapped,"Absolutely! They have a legal, ethical, and morale requirement to if a patient shows up dying because of a miscarriage or home abortion or complication." There was possibly a few curses. EMTALA, people.
@jonunciate70183 ай бұрын
The nuns at that hospital likely never did anything outside of nurse assistant, kitchen, housekeeping work, and maybe spiritual advice. Basically, they aren't qualified to give abortions that require surgery, nor can they pescribe a pill. You couldn't force them even if you wanted to. That's what the doctors and nurses are there for.
@tsharabrown37193 ай бұрын
Catholic hospitals are also sometimes the only option in an area.
@Vaeldarg3 ай бұрын
This is why can't really have religious hospitals in the first place. It's a clear conflict of interest just for the sake of ingraining the religion even more in a society than it already has. Native Americans in Arizona are having to avoid their own traditions, because Catholic private schools are being given all the state funding and those don't allow them to practice such traditions due to wanting the religion to take over their lives instead.
@tsharabrown37193 ай бұрын
@@Vaeldarg I totally agree. But since replacing them isn't even on the table, I'm fine restricting them by requiring that they provide life saving medical care.
@palpablenotion3 ай бұрын
@@Vaeldarg thats not what I was saying at all. If a woman comes into a hospital, hemorrhaging or septic from an aborted pregnancy, natural or not (because a miscarriage is also medically an abortion. It's a spontaneous abortion), they will take care of her need in Catholic hospitals. They have to unless there's something like a Georgia abortion ban which has been over turned anyway. If an abortion is needed to save the woman's life, they will do it. They don't just let ectopic pregnancies go, they don't let women die from sepsis (on purpose). She was angry because Vance was presenting an argument that was moot. If a hospital takes medicaid, they MUST provide care for someone in an emergency situation. They can't discharge them or transfer them unless stable. That's called EMTALA. The Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act. A poster with the requirements are almost certainly in most of not all ERs. Private establishments that don't take money from the government are technically exempt. Most catholic hospitals are not private.

Agree! Though also against his point, Catholic hospitals still are not required to provide abortions in states where abortion is legal. I am a doctor working at a Catholic hospital in California. Unfortunately we are not allowed to provide abortions there, but we are at least required to offer to transfer the patient to a hospital that will provide abortions. I had a patient once who came in after their placenta had ruptured, meaning the fetus would not survive in the womb however was too young to make it outside of the womb. There was no way for the fetus to survive. Being in this state puts the patient at great risk for infection and/or bleeding, but we could not provide the medically necessary abortion until the fetal heart stopped beating. For whatever reason she did not want to transfer. So she was in the hospital for several days while we checked the fetal heart tones every few hours, every hour of which was a greater risk for the patient. Two points: I don't think entire hospitals should be religious. And second, no doctor who is against abortion is forced to provide one even where abortion is legal. Also, no nuns are involved in any of this. Sorry, that was long.

My favorite part of Coach Walz's talking about old guy history is his shout out to the late great John McCain. When JD started lying about the Affordable Care Act and how "Trump" saved, he really though Arizona was going to accept his rewritten history. Arizonans remember that their Obamacare was under attack in Congress by Trump & his goons who only had "concepts of a plan". And that the person who truly saved affordable healthcare in America was Senator McCain, who had been terminally diagnosed with brain cancer weeks before his vote.

@@r6feeds826It isn’t a “half truth” to say that what he was describing IS the legal immigration system. Vance seems upset that Democrats reversed some of Trump’s changes that made successfully getting asylum in our country WAY more difficult, but it’s an outright lie to frame that as being upset about “illegal immigrants.” He’s upset about legal immigrants, and wants the process to get asylum to go back to being prohibitively difficult. He doesn’t want to be honest about that, because when you dig into it asylum is still not quick or easy to get, and people might realize how inhumane it is to cut off that particular stream of legal immigrants. It’s a channel specifically for those with no other options, who have been mistreated and abused in their home country - in many cases political refugees mistreated by their autocratic governments - who want to make a life here instead. People who are grateful for that opportunity and come in loving the US and viewing it as a place of safety and democracy. I actually think most Americans don’t want to leave asylum seekers out in the cold. But that’s really what Republicans would like, is few to no asylum seekers. They just know it’s unpopular to say out loud. And also arguably against the Geneva Convention, which requires signatory countries to accept asylum seekers.

The description is exactly that of any prison. And it is not like the perpetrators of shootings snuck in from some dark alley. They are people who are, by and large, supposed to be there. What this points to is a total break down in trust between students and the adults. So warning signs get ignored or unreported. Behaviors that led to the perpetrators doing what they do being swept under the rug. After years of underfunding and bad policy towards our schools they have become little slums where the real rule is the law of the jungle. And the schools that excel would have anyway because they can acquire the funding to get what they need despite the situation. The answer to this isn't to turn the place where the children go to learn into a detention center. That is just getting them ready for what you really expect of them. To be future inmates.

Look into what they stand for and want to enact with Project 2025. I can't believe that any sane person would want that future for themselves and the people they love.

I think he did come off as likeable and he showed a compassionate side. I still don't trust him or anyone who defends trump

Nothing likable about a person with such weak character that he is willing to pledge loyalty to the individuals seeking to destroy America from the inside. Says same for all their supporters and backers

How can anyone who says "you weren't going to fact check" seem likeable?
@angelikaopland78803 ай бұрын
To any who would claim Project 2025 isn't actually Trump's creation, I can only point out that Trump Himself has already made campaign promises that are AT LEAST as bad as the proposals therein. It's a detailed plan for making fascism happen faster in the next Republican administration, no matter WHO it is (but Trump is named therein over & over...).

Is, Is he serious!? Is Vance SERIOUSLY saying doors would stop gun violence? After 300+ gun violence cases taking place in malls, theaters, and schools? You know, PLACES WITH DOORS ON THEM!? REALLY!? SERIOUSLY!?
@janmay79613 ай бұрын
Yes, he thinks that children would be more safe IF schools are more secured. Whatever that means! Same old BS!.

People not having guns stops gun violence. If you can't get a gun you can't shoot someone with it.Also,make it incredibly hard to get a gun and make the punishment for using one in a crime more severe,like life in prison.

He is highly ranked on the list and endorsed by NRA. He can't even think in ways differently than what NRA wants him to, otherwise he will lose a big chunk of donations from NRA. People like this well make up any weird ideas as long as the money keeps coming in.

It's the same old misdirect as always. They don't want to discuss functioning solutions because they are benefiting from the problem. There *won't be* a good faith discussion on this point for that reason. There needs to be another amendment that clarifies the language in the 2nd amendment, it specifically mentions well organized militias. That implies training, and frankly, military service.

Signs of a sociopath • behavior conflicting with social norms, repeatedly pushes the envelope into uncharted territory. • disregarding or violating the rights of others, insubordinate to any form of authority. • unconcerned in distinguishing between right and wrong. • inability to show remorse, for they have none, void of empathy. • tendency to lie often, repeatedly, automatically. Behaves in a risky, impulsive, dangerous manner. • extremely manipulative, exploits others without any care of who gets hurt. • no conscience or guilt, refusal to accept responsibility for their actions, claiming ownership in the success of others.

If Vance wants to fund school districts to fortify schools, I’d like cinema owners, shopping malls, grocery stores, playgrounds, concert venues to get subsidized to build the same security.

Walz could have been more aggressive, but he was noticeable nervous compared to a much smoother snakelike Vance, and probably did as well as he could given the situation, but when he called out Vance on his "damning non-answer", he won, imo. That was a cowardly, damning response and Tim Walz called it succinctly that!
