I need to try Uni....live in Oregon and a LOT of ours get harvested and shipped around the world. Not too hard to get from what I understand, just go down on a minus tide and poke around the deeper tide pools and rock. Not sure I'll like it, but worth a try once at least!

Yeah, that first one wasn't alive, you could see its innards (gonads) were trashed and it wasn't moving. That thing suffered impact during shipping. I'd be afraid to eat it.

@@louisecoffey9843 Barely if at all. That thing was breathing its dying breath. Thank god sea urchins don't have a CNS or I'd feel horrible at what it must have gone though to get internally mangled like that.

Hiro, read the Bushido Shoshinshu. Great book. Read it in English 20 years ago, and it's what the author said was closest to the "spirit" of the Japanese! A lot of great stories in that book. I was totally right! That uni in California reallly go into the marrow eh? Another great video! Hope to come see you at the home base one day!

Uni is such a unique flavor bomb of salty, sweet, and umami. It’s like the cream butter of the sea that instantly melts on your tongue. Some can be earthy, nutty, or sweet depending on freshness and age.

I love nori. I would sometimes, if I didn't feel like running out to get some salmon or tuna, I would just make myself some rice maki with a little soy running down the middle or maybe with some carrot and cucumber and tofu if I had some. I tried chunky peanut butter maki but that wasn't so good with the rice...
