Amazon the wealthiest company around treats their employees like dogs. It doesn't pay enough for what they have you do. Everyone starts as a temp, they have you competing against numbers for 15 hrs, lifting heavy items while being micro managed. There's little time to take care of yourself. Your break room and locker is far away from your work area and they are shady about not letting anyone know any phone numbers to the actual distribution center even in emergency situations. The work conditions are terrible

You obviously don't know the law in SC (where this was filmed): shoplifting is, at most, a 30-day misdemeanor. The state law basically allows inmates serving misdemeanor sentences to serve 1 day as if it were two, which cuts that sentence in half, so at most he'd be looking at two weeks in jail. Also, to get that sentence he'd have to be convicted. In reality, he would only be in jail until bond court, the judge would let him out on his own recognizance, and he'd be appointed a lawyer, who would almost certainly get him a sentence of "time served" for the couple hours he spent in jail. Nowhere even close to 6 months.

I think the clerk was having a bad day and didn't want to give anyone freebies when he hasn't been able to get any. I've certainly had days like those. "Why do you get stuff and I can't?" type days. It may just be $4 to you, but to the cashier it could be half his hourly rate. Petty thefts eat into your profits. In the UK the police will rarely come out for petty thefts under £50 from shops. That means on some shops, lack of overtime, very part time hours and redundancies. The most that can happen is that they're banned from the area or the store etc.

There are plenty of gas station owners or store managers that will allow people that frequent their stores a tab/credit so they can get what they need and pay on a certain date. I'm a SAHM, my boyfriend often leaves for work before I wake up and forgets to leave me money or doesn't realize I don't have any money for the day. The guy who runs the gas station always let's me get the things I need and I always pay him back when I promise. Sometimes he won't even create a ticket cuz he's knows I won't forget to pay him. So there really are people who would give if you just ask....

Jew Ham access to the internet is not a “basic right,” everything has a cost and nothing is free. instead of wasting all their money on watching youtube, i’m making the logistical case to first spend your money on something that will help you create more money. THEN buy an iPhone. people wonder why the homeless stay homeless, it’s illogical money management decisions like those

He could have easily ran off after being caught. Good guy in unfortunate circumstance that mad a bad decision. I have been homeless 4 different times but never stole. I chose to go days without food or ate from a dumpster. I bathed in a lake or spit bath in a restroom and slept in a tunnel at the park. I know about a hard life but there seems to be some good in this guy at this point. God bless us all and may he find salvation which is the most important thing we all can have!
