Sure, he just made the case against himself. He admitted he went into the store with the intent to steal. That's burglary. He'll get time if/when he appears in court. If he'd said he only decided to steal after he was in the store - or if he would have _remained silent,_ he'd only be charged with shoplifting. Getting arrested is not that bad.
