The one thing that bothered me with him is when he was sitting outside a "known drug dealer's house" waiting for users to come out. I understand the warrant process, but at the same time that seems like you are good with drug dealers and targeting the users to meet quotas. All in all he is a great cop and performs his job well while also conducting himself in a professional manner.

You can tell the Attacker did it from the start. He says "He came over here already bleeding." Then the Attacker doesn't even ask or bring up the fact that why are the cops there or why you wouldn't render aid to your bleeding roommate, because he already knows they are their for him for the assault. Just poor verbal skills because theirs nothing more suspicious than ignoring an elephant in the room (because you caused it) and to talk way more about the reason you hit him (was over money issues) You have to play verbal and psychological chess with people you lie to. Just saying.

Also, even if there is no hope of a not guilty or dismissed disposition, a good lawyer could potentially poke a few holes in the case or do something to facilitate a plea deal, where a public defender or sub-par lawyer may not be able to.

Little bit of info: ancient warriors knew that hitting someone on the side of the head was a good way to kill them. The temporal bone of the skull is one of the thinnest places on the skull. Break that and you got a good chance of brain damage. An axe handle is more than enough to do that kind of damage.
