The victim, Ana Isabel Rodriguez , 60, was released from the hospital on Friday, her son, Oscar Oliva said. “It hit right in the center of the car, so it smashed the doors in,” he said. “She said she didn’t lose consciousness, which is great, as well.” Rodriguez had just completed her job as a nanny and was on her way home when she was struck by the fleeing driver, family said. “I was thankful and grateful she has no broken bones, no lacerations. She’s just very bruised up and badly beaten up,” Oliva said. “It could have been a lot worse than it was, and we just hope that (the suspect) does pay for what he’s done,”

PASADENA (CBSLA) - A suspect in a stolen work truck led police on a high-speed pursuit through Los Angeles County Thursday afternoon, driving erratically before broadsiding an SUV and seriously injuring its driver. The chase began around 4:35 p.m. in the Bell Gardens area, according to police. The suspect weaved through rush-hour traffic, narrowly hitting several vehicles while making sharp turns and squeezing between cars. The chase winded through Commerce, Alhambra and into South Pasadena as the suspect drove on the wrong side of the road and ran through red lights and stop signs. SKY9’s Stu Mundel was over the chase as the driver sped along residential streets in South Pasadena, where the suspect smashed through railroad crossing gates and just missed a Metro Light Rail train. The driver slammed into an SUV at the intersection of Orange Grove Boulevard and Holly Street in Pasadena around 5:20 p.m., damaging the front end of the stolen vehicle and destroying the driver’s side of the SUV. Pasadena Fire Department firefighters used the Jaws of Life to pry open the driver’s door to free the SUV driver. The driver, 60 year old Anna Isabella Rodriguez, a nanny heading home from work, was in serious but stable condition and rushed to Huntington Memorial Hospital, officials said. First responders said it took 14 minutes to extract the woman, who was talking to rescuers. “Our firefighters actually were watching this chase on television at the fire station, which is about a half mile down the road, and they realized the traffic collision at Holly and Orange Grove, so before they were even dispatched to this call, they were already in the apparatus on their way responding,” said Pasadena Fire Deputy Chief Bryan Frieders. Crews found two unoccupied child seats in the rear of SUV, according to a Pasadena Fire assistant chief.

Police need to come up with an effective way to end dangerous pursuits. Letting this dangerous felon continue to endanger innocent citizens is crazy. The suspect made a decision to flee and put innocent civilians in harms way. Anything the police can do, including using deadly force, should be considered. This dangerous felon was allowed by the police, to go on his deadly run for over thirty minutes. He put countless citizens in jeopardy and finally crashed. The public deserves better.

One of the reasons that no one jumped out their vehicles is because people don't know if the man who rammed the SUV is armed, that and the fact that the police could of ended up shooting the suspect if he did have a gun. I have lived in California and trust me when you see this type of thing the best bet is for you to stay inside your vehicle, you don't want to be in the line of gun fire. I do have compassion for the lady who was hit, and I pray that she was not hurt too bad, even though that man was going seventy miles an hour when he hit her. Early on I did notice that someone had run towards the SUV but stopped short, most likely the police told them to stay where they were until more police arrived. The white car that pulled around the corner did a brave thing by doing so because had there been a shoot out their vehicle would block the already messed up SUV. My thanks go out to the police officers, the EMS and the Fire Department and the brave person in the white car and the lady who did rush up to the SUV after the man was taken into custody! Police do have a bad rep in CA but there are far more good police than the bad police. The chopper is to be commended also for staying right with the man in the truck and reporting what they saw...Thank You Eye In The Sky! The other chopper seemed to be a weather and traffic bird from one of the radio stations. Thank you to them also as they report crashes and how to safely direct other vehicles to avoid the crash site..

Spent many days in Hospital and surgeries and physical therapy. Tried my best to return to my job as a CDL driver for a University, but with pain and injuries it was no longer possible. I'm lucky to be alive...... but am unable to live my life as I once did. My Corolla saved me with all the safety features. I own another 2016 Toyota now. It was a young woman, maybe in her mid 20's in the driver's seat with her mom sitting in the passenger's seat. The young woman did not look seriously hurt, but she did have a cut on her forehead, and there was some blood on her rearview mirror. The poor thing probably saw the blood- she was really starting to freak out, and I knew what was going on in her head- she was thinking "I'm seriously injured, but am in shock and am not feeling it yet- Oh God, Oh God!!" - she was stamping her feet in panic. She looked so scared. I looked in, and said, honey, you just have a small cut on your head, it doesn't look too bad. It was like magic- she calmed right down, and I was so glad to have been able to sooth the poor thing in her time of horror and panic.

I think the US police needs to start applying extreme force when it comes to dealing with a situation like this, they will be chasing for about an hour, being too patient, this exposes everyone in danger. Now the driver whose car was dumped did not receive help urgently, he has been in the car sitting there for a long time, this is not fair. I was t-boned on the driver's side in a Cadillac Escalade in Phoenix about two years ago. The other car was crossing from one lot to another and hit us square. @@velvetbees in this case, I might suggest a slightly change for this mantra… 😬 … since the brain doesn’t process the negative words. For instance, if I tell you “don’t think of an apple” or “never think of a horse”… your brain will automatically think of them. So I suggest, instead, to think of “I’ll get there safe; my way is clear; all the drivers will be paying attention to the road, and so will I” (or whatever variation you prefer). 🙌🫶😘

A dangerous suspect in-between them and the victim. If you watch carefully they actually do a very efficienct job subduing the suspect and immediately getting to the victim afterwards. It's a tough reality but the situation dictated for the police to handle the looming danger in front of them before they could reach the injured person. If they had approached from the opposite direction they would have been able to reach the victim sooner.
