I had 2 root canals done myself. Let me just say I've always been mortified to visit the dentist after i had an incident when i was a young kid. Not too long ago my tooth was sensitive to cold drinks. I thought i could tough it out but after awhile i would get these massive headaches and such bad pain in my cheek. I went through this for about a year before i said no more. I visited my local dentist, they took x-rays and told me i needed 2 root canals done. All was done within 1 week and let me tell you it was the best decision. All of my pain went away and i was so happy to not feel pain and to not have to be careful of what i ate and drank. Now I'm due for a visit and I'm definitely going in. My advice take your dental health seriously and go in for regular check ups.

I had a very similar story, I started to get sensitive to cold drinks so much so I would always eat amd drink to the other side of my mouth and I'd never drink icy cold drinks out of fear I knew if liquid touched a certain tooth I'd be lifted out in severe pain. I thought I could tough it out and avoid cold drinks and was like this for a few years, actually, until I started getting regular pains in my cheek and gums. I had to get a root canal procedure, and it was such a huge relief. I can now drink cold or hot drinks without any fear. I though the pain was just because of an old filling I had on the tooth, didn't realise that it was a root canal until the dentist explained it to me

Same. I just had my root canal done today. It wasn’t as bad as everyone made it seem to be honest. I only needed one done. I mean a felt pressure here and there but I wasn’t in pain because it was numb. I know the healing will be painful but getting the actual procedure is not bad

Just got my root canal done today. For YEARS I couldn’t eat or drink anything cold or hot. Even sucking in air caused extreme pain. Now after my root canal I’m walking around sucking in all the cold air I could possibly breathe in 🤣😂 such a beautiful relief! Been through 5 c sections and none of that pain amounts to the pain I felt when something cold or hot would brush my tooth. Make that dentist appointment and don’t be afraid!

Had a root canal done earlier today, about 4 hours ago, was totally pain free, zero issues, took less than 45 min. Now that the Novocain has worn off, just a little soreness around the tooth from the initial shots, but really easy and I can now chew and eat again. Take care of your teeth people

This is the treatment I had today, glad they were able to save my tooth roughly 45 minutes for the whole procedure. Don't wait for the numbing effect to were off take painkillers immediately, ( before you leave the surgery).

Got my root canal done yesterday. I am SO GLAD I GOT IT DONE. when I tell y’all, I couldn’t breathe in the cold air bc my top Molar was in so much pain. So sensitive to the cold and hot. The tooth always bothered me.. but I didn’t think it would end get to this point. Truly one of the worst pains right next to giving birth. When I got to my appointment and the dentist starts drilling into my tooth, exposing the canals, he mentions how they were inflamed. As he was working on my tooth, I slowly felt the pain go away! It was such a huge relief!

Just got mines done 4 hours ago. I couldn’t sleep at night for the past month, no cold or hot air or food could touch my mouth. I expressed me fear to the dentist and he told me he was going to super numb the area and I wouldn’t feel a thing and I didn’t at all. I’m pain free after a month of daily pain. Just came on here after getting a root canal done. Wanted everyone to know that it was actually a pleasant experience and honestly completely painless. And this tooth was extremely sensitive to hot and cold. My endodontist was very thorough and made sure there was no discomfort the entire process. My experience was awful. The Dr did the measurements wrong 3 times. She had to take everything out and do it over and over and over again. Took 3 hours for one root canal. It was painful too, I felt the drill go in and everything. Glad it’s over but I watched the video to confirm if it was a bad specialist. I’m just grateful my insurance covered it. I had 3 fillings with the general dentist before that and it was completely painless and quick. His job was 10/10. Glad I will be getting my crown with him next.

I had a tooth extracted last year and the dentist was concerned about the infection spreading so I was not prescribed antibiotics. She just told me to come in and she’d pull it. Well she never warned me one time before sticking the needle into my gum that it may hurt! Well it didn’t kinda hurt, I came up out of the chair screaming!! It was HORRIBLE!!!! Had a root canal today and was a tad nervous but thank the Lord I got through it.

Honestly the worst part of the whole procedure is the needle stick in the beginning to numb everything up. After that the only bad part is the taste of the glue/medicine they use and your tooth dust. Definitely a pleasant experience when you have a good dentist and assistant working on your tooth. Do your research and find a good one and don’t be afraid to get whatever needs to be done, done.

All these comments give me hope, i get extremely anxious when i visit doctors that my blood pressure goes up. I was sent to get an evaluation done if i need a root canal or just a crown depending on how bad it looks. I can feel pain when i drink cold or hot but goes away, dentist said get evaluated with a specialist bcuz it might get worst but he wants to make sure if i need a root canal or just a crown. Am 11 years old, and am VERY SENSTIVE. i got a root canal and yes at such a young age. i had pain for about 4 weeks, i could not chew and if i did i would cry and scream in pain and sometimes at night it would be very painful. SO today i got my first root canal. i was very scared as i had in air-pods during the procedure as it calms me done. the only part that scared me was the injections as when they put anesthesia i get very scared. After a few 15 mins i was all numb. Honestly i did not feel a single thing. i recommend that you should for sure close your eyes it really helps, as-well as playing calm music not rap, and maybe holding somebody's hand during the Anesthesia. But right now am better then ever !!!

Got mine today . I had a big hole in my teeth since 3-4 years . I was extremely terrified to dentist but after watching many videos in yt I decided to concern with my dentist. I wanted to extract that tooth but as I'm only 15 years old my dentist advised me to do a root canal . I was so nervous because before me a patient was crying dew to the pain of root canal 🙃. Oh god. I feel you buddy. I had 1 impacted wisdom tooth and a cavity on the molar next to it. The dentist managed to save my piece with no problem at all and that was years ago. this is such a small hole for a root canal. everytime my dentist does cavity filling or root canal he practically drills the hole almost up to the perimeter o the tooth. later on down the road my tooth winds up breaking and i have to go back for tooth repair!!!!!!!! i no longer go that dentist!

Everyone talks about how they Dontrelle feel anything, but after getting my first root canal it hurt. Not in my tooth, but I could feel the pain race up the nerves in the side of my head. Such a strange experience because I could feel the nerves in my face and trace out specifically where they were. If you're reading this before getting it done, don't worry about it. My whole family's immune to a lot of pain killers and resistant to almost all of them so we're just weird, I'll probably feel like nothing. Also you should listen to people when they say to take an ibuprofen. I didn’t and my jaw hurt bad for days, completely fine afterwards though.

I had a root canal treatment done yesterday after taking antibiotics for ten day prior (prescribed by my dentist.) The Endodontist indicated that he saw a crack in the tooth during the procedure, and that I might have to have it extracted. I need to go back for a second treatment in a few weeks. I couldn't totally follow what was being explained but will see what happens. After this first procedure, my tongue had a black coating on the side near where the work was done and it's still there today. On Google it seems to indicate that this is due to antibiotics. I assume that he injected them into the tooth before placing a filling to seal it temporarily. There was not too much pain beyond some soreness afterward. Before I started the ten days of antibiotics, I couldn't even touch the tooth very lightly with my fingertip. It would send me through the roof with pain.

For those wondering, I’ve had two root canals. They do not hurt, there is some soreness after that can be taken with simply Motrin. The only thing you will feel as when they numb you.

Not true. I had a root canal done today and felt sharp pains when she was measuring one canal. So much that I literally cried. She had to numb the inside of my tooth and I still felt some pain. I’m not trying to scare anyone but if you have an infection inside the tooth and aren’t numbed up super well, it will hurt during.

@@DearPanda0813 This can happen if the nerves in your tooth and the surrounding tissue has an infection. The numbing solution they inject you with won't numb the infected area. Most dentists will prescribe a 1 week course of antibiotics before a root canal procedure to avoid this from happening. That or you have high resistance to the numbing solution and next time you will have to tell your dentist to not only use more numbing, but also wait a few minutes longer to make sure it takes effect.

I am getting my root canal re done after a botched first one. It will be the second session tomorrow, last one took two hours to do one canal. I wanted to see what they look for and how it’s done. My advice to anyone that needs to get it done, please make sure you go to a good endodontist. I suffered an injury 5 years ago and had to get a root canal. The pain afterwards was horrible and it never went away. I thought to myself, I am never doing this again. Fast forward to now and I had to get an x ray done for my wisdom teeth and they saw that I have a granuloma where I got the root canal and that I had to re do it. I found this amazing endodontist, that showed me how the first person didn’t do a good job and that it’s going to be a complicated issue to fix but in about 6 months I should have no pain. It’s been 5 years, I can handle 6 more months if it means I will be pain free. I did the first session and the recovery has been much better than the first time

I just had a root canal done a couple days ago, the procedure was fine and I couldn’t feel a thing but as the anaesthesia worn off I was in constant agony. I thought it was tenderness and soreness after the drilling but this excruciating pain was worst than childbirth. The pain was continuous for 4 days until my face blew up and I knew it could be an post surgery infection. I am still to see my orthodontist tomorrow, and hoping this pain subsides as it isn’t getting any milder, just stronger and intense. I have been surviving with no sleep whatsoever, just otc ibuprofen every 3 hours and a cold compress which doesn’t seem to help entirely.

@@bangtangirl3184 hi sorry for the late update! I ended up going into emergency hospital and they drained out some fluid and was put on antibiotics. They injected morphine to reduce the pain which helped. I am much better now!

I had two root canals done and one hurt a bit only because it was infected pretty bad so no matter how much numbing I got I still felt some pain but the healing process wasn’t bad at all, the second one was easy didn’t hurt during or after the process it is pretty lengthy I was falling asleep during the second one. The anesthesia injections kinda suck but I’m glad I had this procedure done I was in so much pain before I went I had horrible sensitivity and had just been very sad due to the pain but I do recommend going take your dental health serious you all matter do it for yourself ❤️ don’t be scared ☺️

got mine done yesterday and it was the most boring 3 hours of my life, i almost fell asleep multiple times during it. there was so pain whatsoever, your nerves are dead and your numb so you so feel thing. all you feel is pressure and vibration. make sure you eat before, bring some headphones or something and listen to music during it. id rather do another root canal than have a filling done. fillings hurt worse than root canal, from what ive experienced. do not be scared !!!

Like 2 years ago i had to get a root canal and i remember how painful the tooth was before the tooth was taken care if. i had to get another today and i havent felt any pain in the tooth but they said “we want to get the procedure done before it gets bad enough you start feeling pain”. the first time we just ended up pulling it so i was genuinly terrified but it wasnt that bad at all. them holding my mouth open hurt worse then the actual procedure

Justo got my second one done. I wasn't worried about it this time because it wasn't an angry little guy. The first one was angry. 4 years between both and I have to say they made it so relaxing! I even got a little fidget for anxiety and autism

I'm glad to hear most people commenting here have had simple and easy procedures, mostly without pain. Unfortunately, my experience is a 180 ° different. I had a cavity on a tooth and had put a crown on it. I believe my dentist said it was too heavy and put too much pressure on the canals, so they became infected. Month pass by. Meanwhile, I'm way too sensitive to hot or cold drinks and food on the side, to the point I developed stronger and visually bigger muscles on one cheek compared to the other. I went to the dentist again, and we've cleared 3 canals in 1h30, most painful thing I've ever experienced in my life. I've had surgeries and even incarnated nails left untreated for months that didn't feel as bad. (I'm quite dumb to have left it that much to be honest, but back to the story😅) There are microscopic root canals as well apparently and my dentist recommended me to go see a specialist since he doesn't have the materials. 2h worth of time, legs curled one to the other, and arms stretched, holding the seat to the point I got triceps muscle fatigue and unrelenting pain through 2 serious anaesthesia. The pain was so much that I'm waking up in the middle of the night from it. Without the strongest anti pain medication I couldn't have made it. I'm waiting for my appointment to the specialist and pray the Heavens it won't be anywhere as painful as the other 2 interventions. The worst part is that the pain is connected to the whole left face, stretching from the tooth problem, to a cavity tooth problem on the upper jaw, then to the continuously tired left eye. (I also have eye problems. Damn being an adult has some perks, but medical problems are a beach!)

My first root canal was awful. At the time, I was having allergy issues with post nasal drip. Unfortunately, that was making me gag during the ordeal. However, it did take care of the tooth pan. The second root canal was done by someone else, hence the bad experience I had. This one went great, my allergy shots stopped the post nasal drip, I used gas which helped, and didn’t gag at all. I dreaded the second root canal for no reason. The bill on the other hand…..OUCH!

I had this done this past Friday. It wasn’t bad or painful at all. They did have to numb the nerves in my tooth because I felt it, but other than that, it wasn’t bad. I get my permanent crown tomorrow morning :)

Just finish getting a root canal done on #19 (bottom left side of mouth). Wasn't bad at all. Dr numbed me up first then proceeded. He stepped me through the process. Took about an hour and a half to finish.. Getting a crown tomorrow. For those that are nervous, don't be. I nearly fell asleep through the process.

A word of advice to everyone: Take care of your teeth. I neglected my dental health and had to get two of these root canals done. It would also help to invest in an electric Sonicare toothbrush.

My tooth doesn’t hurt or hurt when I bite down or drink anything cold or hot..: so I’m not sure if I’m just needing a filling but I decided to watch this video to see the procedure anyway just incase, I’m absolutely terrified of the dentist, I always have been, I think I’ve had 3 fillings none of them hurt, not even the needle! It’s just the waiting up days before the filling was always the scary part!

Had a root canal done about a year and a half ago. It was painless but fairly unpleasant. It took over 2 hours, the majority of which I had to keep my mouth open. My mouth was unbelievably dry which I knew was to prevent bacteria during the procedure but I found it torturous. I took Tylenol for a couple days afterwards and never experienced much pain post procedure.

Had a tooth that had a cavity on it plus my filling came out of the same tooth, crazy how I let myself suffer for so long, I could barely eat from one side of my mouth, today I finally decided to make a dentist appointment and I’m so so scared of the shots they need to put in the gums for the root canal but it’ll be ok! Appointment is tomorrow and I’m sooo happy I won’t have to deal with the pain anymore.

I had RCP for my molar and 2 front upper teeth. After more than 5 years they became sensitive and had pus. My dentist redone another RCP on the infected tooth. Hopefully it'll be fine for good.

Got one done today. All good aside from that they couldn't get the area to go to sleep. Ended up getting three shots directly into the exposed roots to numb it instantly. Not so pleasant tbh. That's what I get though for waiting so long to have it done. Longer you wait, the worse it will be as infection and inflammation can prevent area from going numb easily.

I had really bad cavity right to the nerve exposed. She said was bleeding a bit. She put some medication on it and filled it in. She said it's 50/50 chance I lose the nerve I guess when it starts to die / rot away... Crossing my Fingers hoping everything she did saves it. Take your oral health seriously.

just a little bit ago had mine done, few days ago i noticed swelling and pain. just a few months prior i had a proceedure done on the tooth and while the tooth was nearly dead, some part of the nerve was still up and about. bacteria spread and boom, had to get it done. my first ever root canal. scary at first, but not all that bad afterwards

Im getting one done tomorrow. My first root canal. Oral and laghing gas sedation. I cant tolerate pain in the mouth. Reading the comments is kinda reassuring for me. I barely made it thru numbing shots and pulling my 2 of my wisdoms. 😅 But id rather not be in random pain or be fear when i eat.

I just had mine done at an endodontist specialist. The first time I've never had any pain at the dentist. I only felt pain when he injected the infected area. He did it in 1 treatment that lasted about 2 and a half hours. I'll need to go back to my dentist for a crown/cap.

Love how there's so many of us here just after getting one done lmao. Had very minor soreness toward the filling part of the procedure, but none so far several hours after (I decided to wait on taking pain meds to see because a lot of times when they're recommended I don't end up needing them). It was also expected to take longer for the numbness to wear off afterward than it ended up taking (I started getting sensation back almost immediately, and it was expected to last a couple more hours), so I'm wondering whether the slight sensitivity during was just it starting to wear off a little. They said I could raise my hand if it started to hurt during and they could numb it again, but it wasn't actually that bad and we were toward the end anyway, so I didn't really think to say anything. It was also interesting to me- one of the injections they used to numb the area was in a location where it like. Irritates my sinuses? Like it was close enough to my nose to irritate it, which was a fascinating sensation

I did this back when I was 10 years old in 2004 and got knows how much I suffered from pain during the process as the dentist was somehow a beginner with limited tools, I was screaming hard. Now 19 years later, I need to do it and I have no idea if I will go through all this hell of pain again

I just got one today! First ever and I was very scared. It was nothing like I expected. All that matters is that you are number correctly. Make sure to let the dentist or endodontist know your concerns. It’s been 2 hours and it barely hurts. I was scared too - don’t worry! The tech has advanced greatly too.

Tbh I had my root canal when I was 4-5. I did not even know it till I was 13 when my parents were talking about. I just remember a little of it, crying to the pain of the bone getting drilled and crying to see the injection. My parents took me to the dentist and said it was a normal checkup. The numbness got of early and i could feel some of the pain of the injection on me. I tried to scream but I could not. Idk what to say about it.

3 hours after this was done. Pain is awful from the tooth worked on, where I got multiple anesthetic shots in my cheek, up to my left ear. Wasn't prescribed anything so popping Advils. I hope this goes away soon. I regret having done this at the moment. It is worse than the toothache!

I'm 30 and have a molar my dentist says has a cavity that's gotten down to the nerve and an abcess forming underneath it. Said I have two choices, root canal or extraction. He suggested the root canal because I'm 30 and he says he'd rather try and save the tooth. Last time I got my wisdom teeth pulled I was nitroused then knocked out and I'm terrified of being knocked out again so I agreed to the root canal. Watching this video has me terrified of my choice and freaking out over it. I'm deathly afraid of medical proceedures in general but especially anything involving needles. Pretty sure that's why they had to use the nitrous oxide, my heart rate bottoms out and blood pressure with it. I go pale and about fall over at the mere idea of it, and this proceedure has my guts and mind in utter turmoil right now.

I just had it today couple hours back and trust me I can understand your fear. I was really nervous and almost shaking. They gave me a squishy ball to hold. I couldn’t feel anything but I couldn’t close my eyes either. I felt sensitive when they were doing something and I told them. The doctor injected more anaesthesia and I was fine after that. The instruments they used freaked me out. But after sometime you will feel relaxed. Just trust your doctor. You will be fine. He prescribed some painkillers for me as mild pain will be there for few days. But honestly the pain is nothing compared to what I experienced before procedure. I am going back next month again. They said it usually takes 3-4 visits. But its hella expensive. Good luck 👍🏽

I was literally about to cry when started watching the video, they put anesthesia needles 3 times into my enamels and I was feeling pain because of the countless needle inserted to my tooth nerves. They had to postpone it to the next week, now I understand everything. It will be worse next week 😢

My dentist sucks man, I had a root canal done like last year, and when i tell you my desntist sucks, i mean he sucks, he said it wasn't gonna hurt at all, I. Felt. Everthing. It hurt a lot, I told him and he said "Your being dramatic", The drilling hurt the most, i know nothing about root canals, or even how sensitive teeth can be, but for sure one of the worst pains i've ever felt. but i mean, it did help my tooth, so i think he did that part right, but my mouth hurt for the next 2 days.and whenever i get a filling, he doesn't use frezzing, and it hurts a lot. anyways thats my root canal story and i now take good care of my teeth!
