This happenstance shines such a great light on both Norman and Karl. Obviously you came in well prepared, but the way you turned this reconstruction stream into a live interview on the spot was remarkable. Making accessible the passion behind works like these is so enriching, and you did an amazing job incorporating and communicating insights from the first hand creator! And what a pleasure for Norman to be so approachable! Kudos and thank you for this piece of inspiration.

First time viewer just stumbling onto this here (as KZbin has clearly caught onto a recent interest in learning a "little something" about producing with samples), but wow, that was bananas! Even just catching the replay the next day here felt like quite the vicarious experience. Super rad of the man himself to hang out and share so much!

I've found the absolute best tool for hearing all the different elements in a song like this, and I"m being dead serious here, is a reasonable dose of magic mushrooms. You will hear elements of songs you had no clue were there but can suddenly hear in absolute crystal clarity. It's astounding. What a good place to be. Now, I'm not advocating you use this method, especially not if it is illegal where you live but if you're in a country that doesn't care too much then it's just something to keep in the back of your mind. Also, what a fucking trip to have Mr. Cook stop by. Talk about your very own Happy Hour.

A couple of samples from Norman's tracks that haven't been approved by whosampled yet: Guitar in Weapon of Choice = Average White Band - The Message Synth riser effect in Right Here, Right Now = The Flirts - Danger Also there's stems for Weapon of Choice and Love Island available online, you can use them for reference, and there's a drum machine loop in Weapon of Choice's stems that Norman might be ok to tell you where it's from Also, in regards to Rockafeller Skank, the intro break source was found - Wind - Groovin' With Mr. Bloe, this is what's probably layered on top of David Bowie's drums for the rest of the track.
@KarlBoltzmann
@KarlBoltzmann Жыл бұрын
Wow, you are a wealth of information! Thank you for sharing. Mind if I ask where you got this info? I am going to check each one of these out right now. I'm working on Weapon of Choice and RHRN. Just checked out Wind - Grovin' and it has to be the one. Going to pop that into my deconstruction in a minute to take a listen.
@Dr_JackHammer
@Dr_JackHammer Жыл бұрын
@@KarlBoltzmann I got this info from knowing the people who found the samples. We're all hanging around in Sample Hunting discord server, a lot of stuff is found there regularly, but because nowadays it often takes a while for whosampled to moderate submissions, this info becomes easily publicly available with a delay.

Isn't that the same deal with Scar Tissue by RHCP? His guitar was out of tune on the b or e string, and it made the iconic sound that we know. Big part of why people covering the song almost never sound quite right, no matter how well they play the part.
