It has finally happened! The spotlight is on Anson today as he discussed the many aspects of the Yangqin. Ruiling and Sungwah bombarded Anson with complains about the Yangqin, being too bulky and having too many strings; but Anson addressed all their concerns through the introduction of the different types of Yangqin and the general structure of the Yangqin!
In summary, we discussed:
i. The different challenges Yangqin players face and what non-Yangqin players think of the instrument
ii. The different models of Yangqin (402, 402G, Die Meng, Pedaled Yangqin, Portable 401 Yangqin)
Anson even gave a Yangqin solo performance of "General's Command", which he only prepared in 2 days prior to the Live! session! Watch how he did as well at the end of the Live! session!
Links to the Yangqin showcased in the Live! Session episode will be on our webpage soon! Do watch this space for more udpates!

thank you i was wondering about the damper ones i just had seen one with the pedal for the first time, its nice to see this instrument is still being innovated upon - i wish someone would come up with a good method of sharpening levers for guzheng, i guess it's not as needed because you can move (some) of the bridges while playing restringing yangqin sounds scary with 144 strings! but i guess it's probably not that bad you only would have to do it rarely and one or two at a time, and they aren't so thick and hard to bend around the pegs like guzheng strings hard to find yangqin training materials in english :( i think that would be the biggest barrier for me if i could ever get one thanks again for all your fun videos stay safe 😇

kassie2k4 Hi there! Thank you so much for the comments and support! There is a guzheng out there called the “butterfly guzheng” that has every single note on it, in chromatic scale too! But it’s way more bulkier and it’s not easy to play it. We guess the limitation of the guzheng is what makes the guzheng.. a guzheng. Restringing a yangqin string can be the bane of a yangqin player too, whereas some people find it absolutely therapeutic! However it’s not always a “one or two at a time” situation. The best time to change the yangqin string is when all the string of a single note breaks, for example the middle C consists of 3 strings. Once one break, we have to wait or remove the remaining 2 strings to break in order to replace the strings. This helps to make sure all the strings will be “balanced” in terms of degree of ageing and seasoning. We are looking into making learning the Yangqin more accessible, so do stay tuned to that in the future! Thank you and stay safe too! :)

Hey! I live in an appartment, and i'm worried about the noise. Is the Yangqin significally louder than a Guzheng ? Thanks so much!

Hi I need some advices. I learn Yangqin for a year. Have some trouble practicing tremolo 輪音. Still cannot get it and I keep using my wrist. Thank you.

Hello Ermelinda! Anson here! Tremolo on yangqin, a good way to practice is to playing semiquaver exercises slowly, and evenly. Over time start adding tempo and eventually you'll be agile enough to play tremolo. Do take note that playing tremolo on yangqin is not about how many notes you can squeeze together, but rather how evenly spaced each tremolo notes are. Also, nothing wrong with using wrist for tremolo. We all start with wrist first, and slowly learn using fingers. Good luck! Eager to hear from you again for your progress!
