What I find weird is why people pet other people's dogs without asking, in the first place. When I was a kid, I learned to always ask before touching anyone's dog.
@sky60613 жыл бұрын
Ya same I grew up with a mom who is a vet and she always told me three things she said 1st : if you she a dog with a vest don’t pet it don’t call it don’t touch it ignore it it’s a working dog and the person needs it and you don’t need a reason why just leave it alone. 2nd: if the dog dose not have a vest you still don’t touch it you kindly and Politely ask the owner if you can pet the dog and respect them if they say no because it’s there dog. 3rd: when you do pet the dog do it with kindness and respect stroke the fur on its body but not in places the dog could be sensitive in and you don’t pet the dog forever you pet the dog say thank you and move on.

I learned the same thing. Or like my condo manager and neighbors I'm sitting outside with my service dog who has also been trained as a guard dog due to our house being broken into and her brother being killed. (In process of retiring her from service dog to just guard dog.) My new neighbors and new condo manager like to just walk into my yard when I'm outside with her and try to pet her without asking permission. I learned as a 3 year old that you don't touch or look at dogs you don't know unless you get permission.
@karissav.40972 жыл бұрын
People always just walk up and put their hand straight in my dog's face. She's fine with being petted but like they don't even ask or acknowledge me. It's always older people too! Like if my dog bit them, we'd be the ones dealing with the repercussions of an idiot; not every cute little dog is fine with having a hand in their face. She doesn't bite ever, but if she isn't paying attention and gets startled by a STRANGER, I can't blame her for acting out of character in that moment. I'd bite too😅

I saw a service dog in public the other day. I only saw the head at first, and my Grandma said "Awww, look at the dog!" knowing I'm obsessed with dogs. But the dog had walked into my view and i said "Don't talk to or about it, its a service dog." So we just kinda ignored it, and then me and the lady with the dog ended up in the same aisle. It was fairly tight and not enough room for her to pass with the dog, so i moved out of the aisle and waited until she passed. She kinda looked surprised, but she said "Thank you so much!" And i was just kind of like "Of course!" because, in my mind, that's just common courtesy. Anyways, i just find it so sad that its almost normalized to the point where its surprising for someone to do the right thing for some one with a disability or a SD.
@CoRLex-jh5vx2 жыл бұрын
I'm in the UK where people seem to be much more respectful of service/assistance dogs, but it's still pretty rare for people to move aside. My mum especially (unfortunately) likes to force me and my AD into tight situations, like putting her cart in the middle of the aisle, and with me stood next to her we're blocking 70% of the space. Then she refuses to move, so I have to squeeze past and get me and my dog into a less obstructive position. Great for the anxiety!!!

I had one student with PTSD who was training her dog as an ESA and, while on the way to my class, some lady literally pushed her out of the way and reached in to her car from the driver side door to pet her pup. Afterwards, the ESA was very defensive towards other people, which was a far cry from her friendly personality. Btw, you look so much happier here and I am so glad things are going better for you

we had a guy that went to my school and his service dogs name was sadie. she got her picture in the yearbook and her own chair in classes. one of my teachers would spend her own money buying sadie treats and stuff.

I have taught my kids do not approach a service dog or any dog unless they have permission and they know to stay away

Because I am going to need one. Do you know of a good place to find one or more information about them

A lady that brings here brothers service dog to our Parkinson`s class is such a joy to our class! She will ask her owner if it`s okay and then goes to visit each and everyone . No one touches her until she gives permission to .

Isn’t it kinda like trying to pull the crutch away from a person with a broken foot - while their actively walking and using their crutches...?

I think the other thing is that his vest is so decorated, in fairness it looks different from the standard simple service dog vests people may be used to seeing, so it’s easier to think he’s just in a pet harness. My neice has one (for medical) and hers has the standard black and red with medical dog, working, do not pet. And nothing else and while she still has to gently educate some people, it’s more easily recognized.

This is a constant problem with those of us who need a new service animals where individuals in public insist on doing what they want to do and if you deny them they make faults statements etc
@mjohnson36593 жыл бұрын
I don't want anyone grabbing at dog regardless if it's a service animal. Don't touch what's not yours!!! Beautiful baby😊🐶

When training our dogs, we don't get dog treats because they are filled with a bunch of bad stuff for them. We get baby Gerber cereal, the banana ones and blueberry ones, and those work really well. And not a lot of bad chemicals!! Just fruit and oats!!
@SohiHien3 жыл бұрын
Not all treats are bad. There are great freeze dried treats that are just pieces of dried meat. Other treats are also fine and contain no worse ingredients then baby cereal would have. You just need to check ingredients.
@Sam-nf8vq3 жыл бұрын
@@SohiHien thank you! I do check ingredients, and lots of stuff at Walmart that is good for your dogs is way overpriced, while these are only about one or two dollars! It saved my training!
