I think that the idea of viewing the catalog for other content would be great. I think an focus of the projects of the years would be particularly interesting.

Thanks for the feedback Kevin. The good news is that I've actually already filmed all of the material direct from the Sears Catalog pertaining to Craftsman ratchets. It will be a part of the "reboot" that I've been working on. This "idea" was more of a general page through of the entire catalog rather than hanging out in the tool area. You'd be surprised how neat some of the products are in these old catalogs. ^_^

I would love to see that and I love your videos, you are severely underrated.

Hi Chase! We are working on a "reboot" of this entire series. The game plan is to have multiple narratives running together, while providing the history of the tools. I hope the wait will be worth it!

I would be interested, lots of good stuff, tool stuff first , but the older ones even had houses
@GearWolf
@GearWolf 4 жыл бұрын
You are correct, they did have houses in them! ^_^ Given that these catalogs are tough to come by intact, especially the ones that are nearly 100 years old, I thought it might be a neat idea to page through them. Tool stuff would certainly be focused on, when we'd get to it, but I'd like to show people, in brief, what life was like back in the day. You'd be surprised by how different and similar things were. I thought I would pass it by ask see the level of interest, since I have already recorded the footage I needed from them for the "reboot". It is rare to have a collection of catalogs this large with one person.

I am I big fan of craftsman tool history. Many times I have looked up old Craftsman tool catalogs on vintage machinery’s website for information. The mistake haters usually make is on quality. The tools weren’t meant to be the best. In my view the market for them was a very high quality American made tool at a good price. Not the best, but maybe the best value.I have a soft spot in my heart for vintage USA tool brands.

Is that a challenge? Have you thrown down the gauntlet? Just how many old Sears catalogs do you have?

Sounds like a good idea. Are you thinking one stream/episode per catalog per week kind of a thing?
@GearWolf
@GearWolf 4 жыл бұрын
Hi David. Not really sure quite yet. I have the equipment to make it happen. I was most curious to see if this would be something people would be interested in. I do think your idea would be the best course of action.

@@davidguido Thanks David. I'm going to see what I can do to get the ball moving sooner than later, as my time to do this specific activity live is running thin.

Have you found a good way to restore or repaint the textured green surface
@GearWolf
@GearWolf 2 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. These use lead based paints. Unless you have some pristine paint remnant of the past to paint your toolbox/case with you will never be able to restore your piece 100%. Unfortunately, you'll have to experiment to achieve the results you are looking to get. Is it possible to get close to an original finish? Yes, it is. You have to ask yourself how much you are willing to invest both in time and resources. As far as what I do, I keep it simple. I try to acquire pieces that are as original as possible first. If that isn't possible, I will get lesser pieces that I will restore. I have restored a few large power tools, cases, cabinets, and toolboxes, where the results continued to improve as my experience level and understanding of the metal/paint increased. It is a significant effort though...

@@skibee50 Hey, not a problem! Trial, error, and your own satisfaction are going to be the edict that will guide you. I'd love to sit and suggest a specific PPG paint to you, a particular grinding wheel, or a technique. Unfortunately, every piece is unique and has unique requirements, so I'd be shooting in the dark. Like Michelangelo said, "Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it." Each restoration is just as much a personal journey of the individual doing the job as it is for the piece that is being transformed into a "better" state of being. I hope, whatever you try, works out to be something that you'd like! ^_^

@@GearWolf what I have done so far is rust removal than a inhibitor #000 steel wool and just can't bring my self to repaint with the color match paint I already have purchased I'm kinda liking the look of some original paint and bare metal on my silver gray boxes but I think I ruined one of my textured moss green boxes with the steel wool on a test spot Kennedy sells a brown texture spray paint that ain't cheap but might give the rough base coat I guess worst case I'll ruin the whole thing trying to make it better 😀

Absolutely understandable. They would be archived here should someone want to see them after the fact, assuming this is something we will actually go through with. I figured I would throw it out there in the event that people would be interested. We've done this with our other projects, on a limited basis, and it was well received. It is definitely a niche within a niche. ^_^
