Stratosphere is totally legit with real guitars and parts. They take mostly brand new guitars and part them out..they aren't seconds as far as I know. Can't wait to see what you decide to do with it, nice work Dylan!!

Sweet, never occurred to me that they might sell whole Les Paul shells. Seems like a great way get get a custom Les Paul Traditional build. Especially if you were planning on swapping things like electronics and pickups anyway.

I own a Gibson SG that is a second right from Gibson, I have found nothing wrong with the guitar at all. Sometimes it is just a matter of the guitar was supposed to be painted a certain color or silly things like that. You mentioned the head stock - let me ask you something, have you ever gotten a Gibson and the head stock was broken or have you ever broken one yourself? I keep reading about all the supposed issues with the head stocks breaking and as of yet, knock on wood, I have not had any issue with it myself. I have purchased and had them shipped numerous Les Paul's and never once had an issue. I lost my balance a few months ago and came crash landing down on my most expensive and special Les Paul in my collection. I knocked it off the stand and it landed flat on it's back along with my 250 + pound fat arse landing right on top of it, other than a few scratches nothing happened to it at all! I had one guy tell me they are so fragile he can do a bend on the low E at the first fret and he has broken several of these head stocks - so have you personally had any experience with one breaking?

Hi Ron. Yes I had a '60 LP Standard in my hands briefly during the late '70's which had been repaired well prior to my watch over it for a travelling friend. It was indeed a beautiful and rather magical guitar. The repair was only slightly visible to anyone savvy enough to know where to look for it. @@Riverdeepnwide - I so envy you!! Let me ask you, when you had it in your hands did you know the value of what you were holding? See, I have heard a lot of guys say they wish they knew in the 70's what those first Les Paul's were going to be worth. If a break is repaired correctly they can be done to where only by black light is it seeable but even then if the entire neck is refinished it can be hidden. I have seen a few repairs done to where the head stock was much stronger now. I really cannot for the life of me understand why Gibson did away with the volute!! That simple yet effective design added so much more strength to that area so why not use it? The only thing I can think of is they are pulling a Ford Aerostar on us. See I used to manage a garage and then was the head mechanic for a used car dealership and I found out that Ford Motor Company wanted to do away with the Aerostar minivan after only 3 years of production. If you're unsure what that minivan looked like, just google ugliest minivan and it should be the one that pops up lol, it was UGLY. But I found that it was the dealers who kept Ford from ending production of it. Why the dealers? Because the vehicle was constantly breaking down which meant their garages got lots of money from performing repair work!! Perhaps Gibson has the same motivation? If a simple Volute can stop this from happening then why not use it?

Stratosphere buy the guitars new then take the parts off and sell them. On their website you’ll find the hardware and electronics all sold individually.

Welcome to the Strip and Flip salvage Guitar business. I ran the numbers on buying on of those and putting it back with Gibson Ebay parts. You are better off to just buy one when they are on sale or closeout. Would Gibson honor the warranty on one? If Gibson has the serials on what Stratosphere sells there may not be a warranty... There is another dealer doing it as well. I thought it may have gotten started when Gibson first filed for bankruptcy to raise cash. There may be a dealer loop hole on salvage sales. There is most likely a price agreement on sales to be Gibson dealer. Remember Chibson's say made in the USA and have serial numbers that are real Gibson serials. I even checked one in the data base once.Somebody somewhere has a Gibson and the serial may be on 1000 Chinese Chibson's..
