Just to add with the regard to studio monitors and recording anything within the studio, at time stamp around 1:18 or so, the majority of recorded music on this planet is not what the mastering engineer or any engineer working on the project decided, the outcome is through many sessions and retakes to more often than not please some band manager or label or artist with what they like the sound of. The majority musicians, artists, managers, labels, do not want as clean an unadulterated version of what they recorded within a booth, played on an album, they want something that sells and sounds better. Even some of the best picks by audiophiles are albums which were adulterated to sound more impressive. You then also have the added issue of taking 12 individual tracks from different locations and even times, and then trying to level those out so your not deafened by a 130db drum kit while the lead guitar sounds like a geriatric having a coughing fit two corridors down. So much is added, removed, EQ'd, level adjusted, equalized, skewed and touched by plug ins you couldn't even begin to start listing. And that includes small acoustic sets. The monitors used to translate are often a mute point, they are tools chosen to do what hifi doesn't more often than not, and simply what the studio could afford or a specific engineer found worked for him one may love working with ATC, one may love working with Focal, engineers need to translate that mix and will ofdten use what works for THEM, not what works in your hifi, so you may see PMC BB5 as the main monitor, but three different monitors for mid such as an EVE 307 and nearfield Presonus Eris or even as mentioned some horrendous NS10, many items no one would listen to music with, alongside half a dozen different headphones at times. And it should not matter as your not hearing EAR or PMC in a Pink Floyd recording, nor Focal or Bryston nor TAD or able to tell the mics capped off at 20Khz and Van Damme starquad running 40ft into a patch bay then another 60ft to another patch bay before hitting another patch bay with 25ft hit the desk. Some great recordings are out there and great mastering engineers, some great music badly recorded while there is also some really bad music superbly mastered. If an engineer is running a nice pair of mid monitors or far fields that translate their work, and whoever is in charge of deciding what mix is released on an album, loves a specific version out of the various takes of the master, thats it thats the masstered version going on the album, and more often down mixed from 24/192 to 16/44. And lets remember, this is produced with hundreds of feet of $2 starquad and frequency limited mics in the mix going through patch bays so audiophiles can claim $6000 cables matter. Just enjoy the music and get a system that continually has you playing albums and as an extra, make sure its a system that still occasionally makes you go wow.

Yeah, final mix will be mixed to sound good on lesser sound system. Way more people listening on Bluetooth speakers or in their cars. Heard some studios will listen to the recording in their cars before for final mix.

And bass is tweaked to make it stand out.

@TheDarthvader123 I'm convinced he's some kind of trust fund kid who graduated away from a past of following Phish or something like that and he just kind of fell into the hifi review thing. I know alot of music artist love to chase the old microphones is it like a music artist looking for a certain guitar so they can replacte that sound the most accurate or can that certain old sound be replicated by today's newer technology then if they were side by side in a blind test could we tell the diffrence.

I was happy to hear you call out Danny the way you did. He's got a cult following of people who think hes only on youtube to share "wisdom" out of the kindnesses of his heart. They are completely blind to the idea that he uses youtube as a form of advertisement in and of itself. I would love to see his sales figures since he started his youtube channel. Im sure its gone up exponentially. Its cringe worthy to see hordes of grown men tune into abother mans advertisements and then send him t shirts and other gifts in the mail as a form of gratitude for his disguised commercials. Its sad. Also, for what irs worth, his little cohort Ron from NRD just seems like one of those weasely fake nice guys whos got a spine made of wet linguini. I remember when Ron had to move out of his condo years ago and he set up a de facto Go Fund Me through his youtube channel for his subscribers to help him pay for a new house. The suckers went forth and donated. Now he has a huge "sound shed" in his backyard filled with treatments and equipment that probably 2% of those same sunscribers could even afford. These men are creeps. Thats the best word to describe them. Creeps.

Either way, I'm a grown man and wouldn't send either of them t shirts and other gifts in the mail for the pleasure of witnessing their online - interactive commercials. I dint know if you were reaching for a "gotha" moment with that comment, but you missed the mark. Mikey and Danny can both go eat a d**k for all I care. Theyre just strangers on the internet. I tune for entertainment occasionally. Danny though... that guy is as fake as the day is long.

How about a shootout with GR Research speakers? You could take the flagship model of whatever you're currently hawking and put it up against the top GR Research model. Especially if you could find a few impartial listeners to give their thoughts as well. This would be entertaining and get clicks for the both of you.
@OCDHIFiGuyКүн бұрын

This latest with GR and Wilson and now your take leaves me in no mans land. Buy what sounds right to you for whatever reason is important to you. If you want the true sound of an instrument/ voice it seems to me that adding tube, cabinet,op amp coloration has to take you further away. Sure sympathetic resonance of a cabinet should sound great on guitars, pianos, cello etc but it ain’t authentic. I think measurements are essential for accurate playback and yet everything engineered to the hilt sounds like shit me.
