Wow what a great show. I loved it. Everything so beautiful. I was amazed. Sometime ago I used those little embroidery hoops to make some pendants. I needle felt something on them so I was amazed when she showed hers. I just loved everything in this show. Congratulations to you all.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Laura, for emphasizing that it takes time to build up the skill to produce amazing art! I have seen so many people get discouraged, in all art forms, by the posts of people showing quality art work and saying it's their first time. People need to hear/see more of the many, many artists who didn't make amazing art the first time, but who built up their skills over time (like you!) to produce art that is mind-blowing. I am so looking forward to learning from you when the new Felting Tutorials school opens!

So amazed at the skill in the images. Really appreciated the statement of the difference in the talent a person has and the skill. Inspired to rummage through my "mistakes", samples and little bits of felt to work with what i have to create some small creations. Very inspired!!

Thank you for having Laura on today. Her work is amazing. Her remarks regarding not getting discouraged when an art piece doesn't come out as hoped were inspiring, ---thanks Laura. It was good to see the diversity or her work. It makes me realize it's ok to branch out and try other things with felting---not just landscapes.

Beautiful work! And I especially appreciated the reminder to be patient with oneself. I’m a fairly novice felter, and sometimes seeing the beautiful and amazing things that more experienced filters are making can be intimidating. I find myself thinking, “They are so talented! I wish I was as talented as they are, but I know I’m not” So thank you for the reminder that a lot of what we might see as “talent” is actually skill. And skill can be developed through practice, experimentation/exploration/happy accidents, and patience :)

It was so fun to see the WW with Laura Ricks. I have loved seeing her work on the FB group. Such a creative spirit and the work is so expressive. I can’t wait to learn more with her and really look forward to the online school. One of my take-always was the emphasis to save the mistakes. You never know how they might be useful later! Also encouragement to keep at it even if your not quite happy with a result. Learn from it and keep on going.

All I can say is WOW! I'm a teacher that is back in the classroom and I loved being home to join Marie and the Fairies every Wednesday!! So happy we can view repeats. Laura and Marie, thank you so very much for giving me a jump-start to try to fit felting in again. Loved the miniature embroidery hoops; which I will be ordering when I am through here. I just wanted to know if Laura enjoys wet felting or needle felting more?? Loved the show!!!!

I like both. I refer to my work as wet felted though and that’s my preference. There’s a lot of needling that happens in those pieces but more for tacking things down and preparing to wet felt.

Wow that hour went fast....all Wooly Wednesday's do! So many great ideas from this one - I am inspired to keep practicing and then repurposing my experiments. My biggest takeaway from this week though was about skill vs talent...Laura's point about recognizing that when you get discouraged by your results it is because your talent is strong...you just need to keep practicing and build your skill level. Powerful! I often remind myself of Marie's encouragement to keep learning and training your eyes to see.

I love Laura's felted wine container. Do you start felting flat, then put in a resist and join both ends to make a cylinder? Or do you wet felt two flat pieces, use a resist, and then join both ends and the bottom of the vessel, then mold in into a cylinder? You have given me a great idea for Christmas gifts. I just need to discover the process. Wonderful and inspiring show. Thanks.
@lauraricks18914 жыл бұрын
Yes, search on Living Felt and read through some of the comments. I tried to give some lengthy explanations. I start flat on a resist and work over a form a bit too.

Would Laura recommend a learner start with large or small projects? Favourite take away the different blue affects
@lauraricks18914 жыл бұрын
Smaller projects are less frustrating if they don’t turn out because you typically don’t have as much time in them. So maybe a couple of smaller projects in the beginning and then move up.

That was such a great WW! It was so nice to virtually meet Laura and see her beautiful, inspiring art work! I especially loved her advice on taking the emotion out and turning failures into new projects. Great philosophy and a great way to learn! I have a question about Laura's matted work...it was mentioned about keeping the mat from being affected by the thick areas of the artwork, and it looked like there were pieces of some kind of foam or something between the mat and the back board. What did she use for that spacing? It almost looked like foam tape or pieces of styrofoam?
@LivingFelt4 жыл бұрын
