Belly fat is really easy to gain, but can feel almost impossible to lose. Especially in your 40s, 50s, and 60s. You already know your diet is key to losing belly fat, but you might not know where to start and how to keep fat loss going long enough to get rid of the most stubborn areas.
Today, I’m gonna show you how to lose belly fat in three stages until you’ve lost all the fat you want - and then I’ll show you how to keep it off.
Now, keep in mind that as you lose fat, it won’t all come straight off your belly at first. It’ll come off your belly, but it’ll come off other areas as well at the same time. The reason this is broken up into stages is because what gets you to a certain point likely isn’t strong enough to the next point. So let’s say you have a body fat percentage of 25%. What gets you down to 18% body fat won’t get you down to 12% body fat. You’ll have to change things up - which is why we have the different stages.
Stage 1: CLEAN UP YOUR NUTRITION. Focus on calories and protein. You don’t need to start cutting out a bunch of your favorite foods here. You just need to start eating at a caloric deficit. That means you eat less calories than you burn… and that’s when your body starts to burn fat, including belly fat. There are a lot of ways to do this. Simple is best in my opinion. Simply keep track of what you eat in a food journal and pay attention to the scale. Measure your progress. You want most of that weight loss to be from fat, not muscle. So you’ll want to consume a lot of protein - because protein helps you maintain muscle.
You’ll stick in this phase until you start to see the outlines of your abs, and then you’ll start on stage 2.
Stage 2: START COUNTING YOUR CALORIES ONE DAY A MONTH. As you lose more weight, your metabolism will begin to decrease so you lose less fat per day. This isn’t a bad thing, it’s just how the body works. This just means the caloric deficit you used to get past stage 1 to stage 2, likely won’t get you from stage 2 to stage 3. This is when you’ll want to not just record what you eat and what you weigh. But you’ll start paying closer attention to tracking how many calories you consume more strictly with an app or something like that. That’s because most people think they eat less calories than they really do. You’ll want to keep your protein intake high. But you’ll start to lower fat intake, because fat is higher calories than protein and carbs per gram.
You do that and you’ll probably start getting close to 12% body fat. Then you’ll enter stage 3.
Stage 3: START TRACKING CALORIES ONCE PER WEEK. In this phase you’ll want to continue keeping track of your calories. But you’ll also start measuring the ratios of protein, carb, and fat for your meals. You’ll eat more high volume foods… which is less sweets and junk, and more foods that aren’t processed, are lower calorie, but keep you fuller for longer. At this point you’ll want to cut out empty calories, which means cutting out alcohol and candy and things like that. Now, you need to decide if it’s worth it to you. It might not be - and that’s okay.
At the end of the day, you decide which stage you want to be at. If you’re at stage 2, it doesn’t mean you have to get to stage 3. Just have the right expectations - and no matter where you’re at, stick with it and never give up on yourself.

I cut out sugar April 11th 2024.. its June 11 2024... I have lost 20 lbs. I also started lifting weights again, walk 10k steps and only eating lunch and a small dinner. I feel fantastic. I also did a sleep study last Dec and got my sleep fixed. Life is good.

Great advise! For the last nine plus months, I have been basically doing what you talked about in this video. Though I weigh myself daily, walk 3 miles or more daily, log my food daily, intermittent fast, exercise and eat at a caloric deficit. I have dropped from 282 pounds to this mornings weight of 195 pounds. I am looking to lose about 20 more pounds, but my body will help me make that decision. For anybody wondering, I turned 65 in January, so if I can do it... you can do it. Discipline is the key.

I avoid deep fried stuff as well. I use air fryer baking as alternative to cook. Only sweet things I eat are fruits.

"Cut out all the stupid shit you eat and drink." - What a great mantra. Really, that is half the battle. I'm certainly not a diet expert, but I think one gram per pound of desired body weight , for protein is better, but for me at 185, that's a touch goal for me. Great video, as always.

Can I have air fried fries 😉 I just started a no sugar challenge. I’m 45 and went through diverticulitis a couple years ago, so I went from 240 to 150 after I had my colonoscopy bag removed I started to gain wait but the wrong way getting into bad habits again too much sugar. Last couple months I’ve been eating better and working out more and now up to 189 but still have a little belly fat. I quit drinking almost 4 years ago, I’m now in the best shape I’ve been in a long time. Love the videos 😎

Absolutely LOVE his attitude including the swearing. Don't change! I lost 45 lbs last year (the 1st 40 lbs in 7 months) doing IF. 2MAD 18:6 is my staple although I do change it up and eat breakfast from time to time. He's 100% correct about your metabolism slowing down once you lose that weight. Mine sure has so I actually started doing what he says to do. I'm tracking all my kcals daily in an ap I use for this. I've also increased my activity level with my exercising.

I was leaving the gym yesterday and a young lean guy was sitting at a table eating fried chicken, fries, and a soda. The nasty smell of the cooking oil almost made me sick. I wanted to stop and tell him "listen to me now and understand me later, don't eat that stuff", but I kept walking.🥴

You are turning fat into muscle, body recomposition. Check how many calories are in your two meals a day. Sounds like you are doing great, try adding 7,000 steps per day, a 5 kilometre walk .

A person cannot spot reduce fat. If you’re in a calorie deficit, you will lose fat slowly from many parts of your body.

You’re better off keeping the fruits with the highest glycemic loads to a minimum…..berries are better, and high quality honey is ok in moderation. If you’re craving honey, try and time its consumption so it’s before a high demand workout/activity day. You are the laboratory! Experiment and see how you look and feel after changing things up…fruit is better than juices ( your body needs to digest and process it as a whole food) , and has great nutrient value.

You are on the right path, but please update this video for a couple pitfalls. Caloric deficit and intermittent fasting is also a recipe for loosing muscle mass at certain age. So you probably need to make sure not loosing and not gaining weight every day and adjust intake and exercise plan accordingly . Also you need to consider vegans/ vegetarians for whom this process is more complex

Basically you need to know what ideal muscular weight/approximate fat percentage you want to be….that number is the poundage for your protein calculation.

One pound a week is easy. Drink plenty of water, eat a good breakfast with plenty of protein and that goes the same with lunch. If you can at least eat two healthy meals a day consistently, you will lose weight. That doesn’t give you an excuse to eat shit. Just eat clean and you’ll be fine. Also, lift heavy weights. 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

You have to weigh your food in order to count calories. Otherwise, you are just guessing! Also, doing cardio and lifting weights will help you burn fat.

The title to this video is VERY MISLEADING!!! You can’t spot reduce fat and there’s a new study out that possibly says you can but overall right now there’s no study that’s 100% accurate saying you can spot reduce fat. Second, you’re gonna lose all the fat in other places before you get rid of belly fat which is VERY VERY VERY hard to get rid of. Yes, you might lose a little belly but to truly lose belly fat is very very difficult and extremely time-consuming. Poor video!!!
