Wonderful video! I told my friend that I would have it fixed in just a few minutes. Yeah, right! The frikkin’ thing was glued in. I destroyed it. Marred up the inside panel. And, it’s still not out. Gonna cover it with duct tape.

Thank you! I was able to fix mine. I believe the reason for the arcing is that the movable contact blade is not making full contact with the stationary one. After working on mine, they didn't even touch. Your tip about bending the blade to ensure good contact was very helpful. IMPORTANT TIP: If the cover is off and you want to try the action by pushing the actuator in, hold your finger over the little part with the spring in it. I didn't do this, and both the spring and the little part flew out. Fortunately, I recovered them.

Such a helpful video! Thank you. The cause of my switch malfunction was that the contact had fallen off the metal arm. It was attached using a rivet-style fitting on the back of the contact. I pushed that tiny fitting back through the hole in the metal arm and with a center punch I "re-riveted" it in place. Glad to hear that you had some success with dielectric grease! I will try that next time I have it apart.

Fantastic to-the-point video! I just successfully did this repair, and a couple of points: I don't know why LG makes it that hard to pry the switch assembly out of the door. That plastic clip is a bear to compress! Once open, I did find the exact carbonization as in this video. Cleaned the inside of the assembly, sanded the contacts as you suggest (one side is actually cup-shaped), and plugged this back in. One other problem: the blue wire of the inside switch was loose. As I went to fit the assembly back into the side of the fridge, the light would go out. I squeezed in a bit of painters' tape to try and hold the wire firm in the housing, but it would keep going out. Finally maneouvered it in with the door, and it's working. But be sure to check those wires before re-installing, you don't want to have to take it out again! Thanks very much for this demo.

Thanks, I probably switched the two numbers. I just recently put in another switch similar to this and found that a spatula works better than a screwdriver for getting the switch out. It’s a little wider so it doesn’t dig in to the refrigerator as much

I have to do it every couple of months, it's never as good as new and I don't know what grease, lube or whatever to put in so it wouldn't spark and get damaged again. I tried nothing, silicone greaze and wd40, it's flickering again...

I feel like these switches are defective somehow. There’s a other people that have mentioned this particular switch goes out every single year. Very frustrating. I tried some dielectric grease Dow corning number four or DC 4. It did seem to be working better but then the plastic piece inside broke. We broke down and got another switch. When it starts to flicker again I’m gonna clean it up and put some DC4 on it again and see how it does.

Actually been having the same problem with the exact switch of course. I put some dielectric or silicone grease on the last repair to try to keep the corrosion on the contacts down. I’m starting to wonder if the Contacts are smaller. Very frustrating though. The company should send them out free. It does seem like a design flaw
