Rarely does a vocalist come along and totally knock me out like this young lady. The real deal. Music helps move us emotionally. I'm drained after experiencing this. WOW. This kind of music was written for vocalists like Rachael. It gets no better.

A complete delight. Ray Noble's ultra romantic standard, sung by the always-wonderful Rachel Price, accompanied by modern maestro Jon Batiste. Billie Holiday / Teddy Wilson vibes in a shimmering, contemporary package. Easy to love, hard to resist.

I think that's because she doesn't seem to. It's a miracle. Those huge melty phrases and no visible breathing. I was coming here to say that.
@Wiley_Coyote4 жыл бұрын
@@charlottemedcalf4089 I think it's more because the world seems to stop when Rachael Price sings. There's a vague kind of thought that you've never heard emotion expressed so sublimely, but mostly you just stop thinking and feel instead.

Richard Thompson references this standard in one of his own songs: "Oh we were heroes then/ and the girls were all pretty/ and the uniform was a lucky charm/ that bought you the keys to the city/ we used to dance the whole night through/ while Al Bowly sang "The Very Thought of You"/ *Al Bowly's In Heaven, and I'm In Limbo Now*...." Al Bowly was a well known dance band singer in Britain who was killed in an air raid, and the narrator is a homeless WWII vet remembering how much better things were back then. A lovely, bittersweet song, worth looking for on YT.

We often think that the great standards in the English language were from the US, but this was written by Ray Noble from Brighton, England. He also wrote that Jazz favorite - Cherokee.
