Insanely fabulous! Rachael's voice never disappoints, and that was some of the tastiest blues/jazz piano playing I've ever heard. It's easy to be disgusted by the current musical landscape, but the silver lining is that occasionally a show like this rises up and becomes a musician's (and listener's) paradise kind of thing. This caliber of musicianship is relatively new, even if the great stuff has mostly already been written, and it's a joy to hear.

kinda strange that Jon B is host but never introduces Rachel P. and then during the song she plugs show Live From Here and then does again at the end ....
@Rhythm042 жыл бұрын
The show plug was weird. Kinda removed me from the magic of the song. I definitely wish that didn't happen. Judging by the body language of the band tho, I'm almost positive that this was not the only song they did together and she got introduced earlier. I went to a taping before they changed the name and the guest bands played multiple songs "off air". It was pretty awesome but also wish those performances were taped too, lol

@@Rhythm04 I hear you... thanks for pointing that out .....Rachel is very talented. Sometimes a bit too reserved but such a Pro.. Class- Act
@roytee3127 Жыл бұрын
@@Rhythm04 Listen to what Jon Batiste says at the very beginning - "Now it's time for our local break". The show and its predecessor PHC would take breaks for the local radio stations to do their thing, and play music for the duration just for the auditorium audience. That's why Rachel Price says "Welcome back..." at the end. The sad part is that the radio audience never got to hear this gem.

This is one of my favourite under-rated Prince songs and part of the grief of losing Prince is that even Jon Baptiste cant play piano with the same musical swagger and cadence that Prince did . - Alicia Keys cover is closer. Rachels vocals were effective. But Im glad that decent musicians are including more Prince tracks in their repetoire, hopefully not just when in Minnesota.
@margicates5535 жыл бұрын
"Class Acts" expertise and inspirational performance ummm Yes. John Baptiste can. He’s making a choice to play it real easy. You come for Baptiste you come for New Orleans. He’s got more swagger in his pinky toe than any other keys player out there.
@roytee3127 Жыл бұрын
Different musical swagger and cadence. Jazz is like that.
@classactsexpertiseandinspi4815 Жыл бұрын
I've listened again and you are both right, but I really love Princes version which includes the great upward modulations around " Still light a fire on rainy nights" which they missed out on here. Prince would have appreciated their cover their talents and their evident respect.

I guess the piano player is Chris Thile? His vocals were horrible. How did he forget the piano stabs and percussive bass notes in the left hand that anchor that song. Come guy if you're gonna do a Prince tune its got to inspire. Rachel tried to salvage the song. The original just had more personality. Great job Rachel. Nobody can sing like PRINCE!!!!!
@roytee3127 Жыл бұрын
Nope. Anybody who knows anything about this show would immediately recognize that the piano player wasn't the twitchy white mandolin genius Chris Thile. As it says in the top notes, it's Jon Batiste, a premier jazz pianist. As any jazz pianist worth his salt does, he's making his own version - a gospel/blues with an incredibly sweet piano opening.
