At 9:15 I think the medical examiner was looking at the parents because he was clearly getting emotional and managed to keep himself together. I’m sure he’s dealt with many traumatic cases, but it’s still heartbreaking the way these innocent lives were taken away and the killer didn’t just take ONE life, he took 17 innocent lives completely ruining the lives of all those connected to each victim. It’d be a bit different if he murdered one person impulsively due his past, but this was planned and the recent trials are sad and his backstory is sad, but he didn’t murder just one person, 34 victims in total, 17 dead, and not only shot them once, several were shot over 10 times and one of the victims barely had his head intact. Several were shot again as the killer walked past them. He deserves death.

It has to be heartwrenching for the Families to hear the Medical Examiner's describe the victims injuries. And, yes it sickens me to know that the scumbag cruz shot some of them so many times. This type of testimony only inflicts more pain on the victims' families. It takes to long to try this mass shooter. The El Paso Walmart shooter is still in our local jail three years after the incident. We the residents of the county have to house him, pay for his lawyers, and hold the trial. There should be a federal law making this a federal case with costs to be borne by the federal government. We lost 23 residents and 24 were seriously wounded. The survivors are still suffering.

This is America not Afghanistan. We have a justice system and it has to be thorough. You should be thankful for the extensive testimony and airing of all these facts. In my opinion Cruz should be sentenced to Life in Prison without parole, but with the condition of being imprisoned in ADX Florence. 23 hours a day in a small cell with furnite made out of concrete, no interaction with anyone except guards. Zero privacy, being recorded at everything he does, 24 hours a day. Eating only in his cell. Walls and doors with integrated noise cancellation to stop any contact to neighboring cells. The one hour yard time is spent with hand, belly and ankle shackles. Before being brought there he gets blindfolded. This prison is pure horror, basically solitary confinement for life. No wonder there were several attempts to shut the prison down, as it also has no intention or even facilities to rehabilitate an inmate.

My brother is a teacher in Las Vegas and is considering changing careers because of all of this. Sad. Because his life has been about baseball and teaching. And to think he’d walk away from his passion breaks my heart.. After watching His videos prior to going to the school, I so wish someone could’ve stopped it. For all of the victims, but for him as well. Regardless of our feelings toward him, he HAD to be dealing with mental illness to go ahead with something so evil. And so close after losing his mom. As a mom I empathize with the families no doubt. But I’m heart broken for him that he struggled the way he did in order to pull off this heinous act.. Heartbreaking all around.

Im not familiar with Court proceedings. If the defendant pleaded guilty, why is this lengthy trial needed. It seems wrong to put the families through a trial. Chris Watts pleaded guiltu, and there was no trial.
@CoCoGemel2 жыл бұрын
If I’m not mistaken, part of Chris Watts deal was if he plead guilty, he would avoid the death penalty. In Nikolas Cruz’s case, the jury has to determine whether he gets the death penalty or life in prison. This is a trial to determine extent of punishment and as far as prosecution goes, their job is to show the impact of NC’s actions that day, i.e., MEs provide scientific and factual testimony as to damage to the victim’s bodies, victim impact statements, and testimony from survivors who were wounded but survived.

This isn’t a trial. He already admitted to committing the crimes, so there is nothing for the prosecution to prove. This is the penalty phase. This is where the prosecution shows “aggravating factors” severe enough to warrant the death penalty. The defense lawyers must then present “mitigating factors” which are reasons for which the criminal should get the lesser sentence of life in prison. The aggravating factors are that the crime was planned, especially cruel, calculated and the criminal knew fully well what he was doing. The mitigating factors I think the defense will present are that, in fact, the criminal had brain damage because he was a crack baby, he had severe PTSD, and some severe mental problems.

@katelyn99372 жыл бұрын
that is what this is. His sentencing hearing. Stuff like this is given and said in court to give the jury a full picture of what happened that day. They are given autopsy reports, they walk through the 1200 building, they listen to victim impact speeches from friends, parents, siblings, and survivors. All this is required in order to give NC a fair trial and also give the jury a full time line picture of what happened that day, and how it has effected the people involved. That will then all be taken into consideration when the jury has to decide if NC will receive a life sentence or the death penalty

As a matter of interest, being British we have no concept of a jury trial where the jurors determine the sentence handed out in such cases...my interest is how many viewers think/believe the jurors will vote for the death penalty?
@YaYa-ke1zr2 жыл бұрын
There’s no way to know for sure. I think it depends on the jurors backgrounds (faith?), if they feel the killer is remorseful, and if they think he snapped/went insane. Personally I think they will vote for the death penalty in this one. The people who walked through the school seemed traumatized by what they saw; I’m guessing the jurors felt the same. Also, the killer doesn’t seem outwardly remorseful and he clearly wasn’t insane at the time of the massacre.

The death sentence was made for killers like this
@aaronwilliams1262 жыл бұрын
Well it's in the south in Florida, I live in Alabama and we have the death penalty here for capital felonies. Felony murder in the first degree murder in the first degree, I can't say for certain but I am 99.99999 percent sure he is getting the death penalty. The jury is being shown all of this so they can make a decision. Think about it this way, if yall were on this jury and had the decision to give him life or death, would you want him to live after this? I damn sure don't. In 2018 I know that The Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional for the judge to give a death penalty when the jury recommended life. It's called judicial overreach. Because that privilege was abused so much, in 2018 is when the Supreme Court ruled it to be unconstitutional. Very unfortunate and complicated because if you get the wrong jury, they could give him life. I study law and have law enforcement in my family and we all are rooting for a death penalty. Because while he waits to die on a date selected by the governor of the state, he will be in a tiny box and mistreated by the guards until his sorry ass gets lethal injection. If he gets life that won't be mean and fair enough, after all this pain and suffering this murdering creep caused, it would be cruel to allow him a life - even if in prison. Look how sad and exhausted the survivors and family are. There is a guilt phase and a penalty phase in first degree murder cases. The guilt phase is if the defendant pleads guilty or is found guilty and the penalty phase decides life or death. It has to be done like this or defense could find a loophole to give consecutive life sentences. Most of us here in America do not want that but it isn't about that unfortunately and these people don't want him to live. He will serve years on death row and could be killed before the date of his death. The prisoners do not like him. He is kept in solitary confinement from the day it happened to now except for in court.
@karenadashfield99542 жыл бұрын
@@aaronwilliams126 I think, without question he deserves nothing less then a death penalty sentence. This leads me to another question, if he does get the death penalty does he get to sit on death row for years before his execution takes place? The evidence is overwhelming and he has pleaded guilty so in my opinion the execution should be immediate without the privilege of appeal.
