I just love how completely wrong it is....prehistoric, and pre-agricultural human diet was primarily starchy roots. Yes they ate meat, but not every day. Most fruits that we have today did not exist back then, they were spread globally (meaning they would be inaccessible) and are seasonal, often only being able to be found for a week or two for each species. Conversely, root vegetables are abundant across the globe in many forms in each region. A big starchy root is a very successful evolutionary adaptation. So they are abundant, calorically and nutritionally significant, and accessible year round. Eat your veggies kids, and don't take the naughty sauce.

The bed thing is so funny to me. Even animals build themselves comfortable nests and 'beds' to rest in. Why does he assume our prehistoric ancestors didn't?
@donovanb9020
@donovanb9020 2 жыл бұрын
Because his knowledge of "our ancestors" apparently amounts to what he saw from Flintstones cartoons. He also, conveniently, ignores the fact that there's a reason that cultures around the world have feasts/traditions that center around eating an animal, like Thanksgiving. It's because being able to eat a substantial amount of meat had always been a special occasion, during our hunter-gatherer phase as a species. The only real exceptions would be, maybe, peoples that had easy access to abundant fish/seafood.

@@voluntaryismistheanswer carbon is in all living matter (both plant and animal), so carbon dating wouldn't be a problem when archeologist come across ancient preserved veggies and fruits. But there's plenty of evidence that indicate ancient humans ate plants, just like meat. Usually the remains of these plants are found buried in baskets or preserved in the mud of archeological dig sites. Not to mention, agriculture itself is an amazing testament to relationship between plants and humans! Wild corn looks completely different to your standard domesticated corn for example.

The only “ancestral group” that subsisted on a mostly meat-based diet (that I can think of) were the Inuit, Yupik, and other indigenous groups of northern Canada. @croaker I don’t think you know what subsistence means in this context… it just means to survive/feed yourself. Like subsistence agriculture means feeding yourself by farming (and was what most people did for most of the last several thousand years)
@mattuwu9978
@mattuwu9978 2 жыл бұрын
@croaker Homo Sapiens have always been omnivores. Other species of Homo- might have been less omnivorous, but none have ever been “hypercarnivores”. That’s simply impossible. Even obligate carnivore species like cats (big and small) sometimes eat vegetation to settle their stomachs. And there’s still plant life in even the driest regions of the world. The unspecified “tribes” you mention also forage and farm. Roots, legumes, and squash are very common in many Central African dishes. There’s a reason pre-historic humans lived in hunter-GATHERER societies. Hunting was unreliable; success wasn’t guaranteed. Foraging was almost always successful.
@mattuwu9978
@mattuwu9978 2 жыл бұрын
@croaker yes, gathering was a fallback when hunting was unsuccessful; I’m not disputing that. The primary source of protein and vitamin B12 in the human diet has always derived from meat and animal products. B12 is an absolute necessity in our diet, so I don’t disagree at all that humans have evolved to eat meat. My original comment was specifically addressing the eating of _raw_ seal/whale meat in humans from between 15,000-10,000 years ago. Compared to 3-5 MYA, our stomachs (and subsequent pH levels) evolved out of the ability to _efficiently_ digest raw meat - other than very fresh fish and beef. Cooked, dried, pickled, and spiced meat keeps for far longer than raw meat - especially in warmer climates (which is why spicy food is seen more often in civilizations closer to the equator). Before the advent of preservation methods, I don’t doubt that humans and our anthropological ancestors were closer to scavengers. I don’t think we’re in disagreement about anything. We’re just thinking of different time periods.

For those unfamiliar with fitness and nutrition: 1. The man is 100% guaranteed on steroids (which wouldnt be a problem if he'd be open about it instead of attesting his physique purely to his insane diets, lifestyle and most importantly obsolete, overpriced supplements etc) 2. In contrast to what he claims, consuming large amounts of liver can be a major health risk, particularly Hypervitaminosis A comes to mind 3. This should go without saying but consuming raw animal parts is also a large risk and will eventually give you parasites and food poisoning, the reason something like beef tartar can be consumed raw is because in the case of beef, most pathogens are found on the outer layer of the meat due to contaminations in the slaughterhouse (this is also why you shouldnt eat burger patties rare) I think his content is great to make fun of but its scary to think that someone might believe his horrible advice.

I feel that it's necessary to mention for those people who are not into fitness that Liver King is 100% enhanced. The amount of muscle mass he has (like, Mr. Olympia level) indicates that he's using dangerously high levels of PEDs. Steroids and other PEDs also wreak absolute havoc on your cardiovascular health, which is likely why he sounds like he's out of breath all the time. So suffice it to say that his projection of healthy living is very contradictory to how he treats his body. All in all he's just another dime a dozen fitness influencer who tries to sell his products using his "ancestral living" shtick as a unique selling proposition, which is funny considering that, from what he shows in his videos, his training involves a lot of barbells and other modern gym equipment.

The oldest known mattress in history dates back to 77,000 years ago, and was found in the Sibudu Cave in KwaZulu-Natal in Africa. He also seemed to scoff at the idea of vegetables, which our early ancestors would definitely would have eaten if they found them (same with fruit). That’s the “gatherer” part of hunter-gatherers.

seriously! it's so infuriating how he picks and chooses what counts as "ancestral". he presumably still uses air conditioning/central heating, indoor plumbing, guns, testosterone steroids, etc... but noooo, his meat has to be eaten RAW, of course our "ancestors" couldn't use fire to cook food 🙄

Obviously. He is the product of technology like any other modern human. There is an implication that what is natural for us to eat is healthy but there is no real reason for that assumption to be the default position. We are unnatural and live longer.

6:14 dude really said “several professionals all gave us the same, consistent advice, so we, two average Folks, read A SINGLE BOOK and decided we know more than any doctor, then took our childrens’ lives into our own, non-medical professional hands. And you should too.”

Yep. Right wing conservative anti-intellectuals. What did you expect? You know they're against vaccinations and maybe even support Qanon. Bet they have some weird views about the jews as well. ^^ You can read these people like a book.

When he says "skin biome" he's referring to the BACTERIA living on your skin. It's a real thing, you just don't really need to do any upkeep on it like he's saying or bathe in pine needles.
