I was at this game, Aberdeen fan travelled down from Scotland, and we were certainly given alesson in football class that night. Fergie, and Aberdeen, paid heed to that lesson and went on to greater things. It was great to see this Liverpool team play though, a different class.

Liverpool were class back in the early 80s, it was also the beginning of a great Aberdeen team which culminated in beating Real in the 83 cwc final.
@andylowe151711 ай бұрын
Aberdeen had a great side back then, Big Hardy (dirty) defenders that knew how to defend, digging midfielders, silky fast wingers and deadly strikers, what wasn't to like? Fergie got the best out of everyone of them n they LOVED playing for Aberdeen. First game I was at Aberdeen handed out a 2-1 defeat, 84 Cup final, they just had that little bit extra and more class and self belief back then. They were a great fast clinical team whenever they turned it on but they won the chance to do that by winning their personal battles, they could lay the boot in and kick lumps out of anyone along the way if need be. Hardy basta*** and a deadly football team that feared nobody back then. This was probably the only lesson ever dished out to them n Fergie held grudges for Years after it towards Liverpool, Souness, Dalglish n Hansen. His bitterness about Liverpool n Those 3 Scottish players cost Scotland a place in next round of 86 World Cup. Bitter man.

@pertwee937611 ай бұрын
Absolute bollox! For a start it wasn't McDermot's tackle on McMaster it was Ray Kennedy, and it wasn't even a foul, nor was it given as one by the ref. The ball was there to be won and Ray Kennedy won it fairly under the rules that applied at the time. He would have got sent off today but it was a different game back then. There was no ill intent in that tackle, he just won the ball and McMaster was unfortunately injured. That kind of thing happened in those days and still does as a matter of fact. But that's one of the reasons why the rules have changed so much and why football is now a game of pufters. And if you think the match which Liverpool won 5-0 on aggregate, and in which they were already 1-0 up, hinged on that one unfortunate incident then you are deluding yourself.

It's not like Man United were paperweights before Alex Ferguson took the reins. Prior to his arrival, they had 7 League Titles, 6 FA Cup titles, and 1 European Cup to their credit. Heck, Kenny couldn't even replicate that success in his brief return.

+daztot The wheels had come off completely at United when Fergie took over; the team was second bottom after a slew of inadequate buys coupled with ageing, demotivated players. That said, many United fans were hugely unhappy with him for his first four/five years in charge, regarding him as an excuse maker who was hopelessly out of his depth at Old Trafford; we just seemed to be going nowhere, till it suddenly gelled. As for Bob Paisley, well, the man was a master tactician who knew exactly who to get to for the Anfield system. As Gordon McQueen has said, your recruitment was the best.

Hard to tell. The epl moved on in terms of quality due to foreign players. Teams of the 60s 70s and 80s probably would have struggled in the modern game.

In Ferguson's 7 seasons at Pittodrie...Celtic were league champions 4 times. Aberdeen were a great team but Ferguson never dominated Scottish football the way some revisionists would have it.
@conner12602 жыл бұрын
Won the league 3 times, won 6 domestic cups, won the same amount of European trophies as rangers and Celtic combined and got Aberdeen to many European cup quarter finals. 7 seasons and managed all that, he’s the goat

Sir Bob won it in his 3rd season in charge, how many seasons before ferguson and all his money before he won his first?
@daztot9 жыл бұрын
yep and even then his poxy team didn,t deserve to be there since they didn,t win the championship the previous season.
@scouserla19 жыл бұрын
+daztot If am not mistaken, the European cup was the only encounter between the master and Ferguson. Aberdeen 0 Liverpool 1, Liverpool 4 Aberdeen 0. I was there, the kop sang "Why are we so good" Good was pronounced in a Scottish accent.

+daztot 2005 again. Did you sit still, not celebrating?
@daztot8 жыл бұрын
+scherben yes, i stopped following the game when it became a business and not a sport, i don,t recognise the 2005 win as they shouldn,t have been there, didn,t win the previous league.
@scouserla18 жыл бұрын
+daztot You don't recognise the 2005 win? Blame the greed of the so called top 16 clubs in Europe who threatened to form their own league, hence this set up. Man Utd weren't champions when they last won it either, and I bet there's been other teams too. It is a business and fans are getting fleeced.

Kenny was an absolute genius footballer and I was lucky to watch him play from 1978 to 1987. I remember a game at Anfield against West Brom and the Albion had parked the bus. Frustrated us all afternoon, until late on. Kenny had his back to two defenders and dipped to his right, then to his left. He spun and made a tiny bit of space on the edge of the area. A low shot placed trickled toward the far post and I watched in agony as the ball clipped the post and nestled into the net. I was directly behind the path of the ball on the Kop and we went nuts.

George Graham knocked Liverpool off their perch. Ferguson was the one who emerged from the ensuing vaccum - contested between him, Arsenal, Leeds, Blackburn and Villa - left behind from Liverpool's fall.
@zaidabraham73106 жыл бұрын
Man Utd didn't have to knock Liverpool off their perch. Liverpool just fell off after their 80's team became too old and football evolved beyond them. (With new training methods, eating plans, increased discipline)
