Him and Jon macKenzie are by far my favourites at The Athletic. Sort of dry and analytical, but with amazing pedantic jokes. A more energetic and less "nerdy" cast around them also elevates them.

It's because there isn't any - they just mention the score and the Villa scorers. It's weird, but a lot of the big football weekend review podcasts are giving Villa very short shrift. It's as if there isn't room for another team outside of the Sky 6.

Glasgow Rangers and Manchester United have been in absolutely mirrored situations for the last 2 years. On the pitch, off the pitch, the style of play, the in-game weaknesses. Both got battered by their biggest rivals yesterday and their two bald managers are in denial. Wild.

Really ? Lucky against Ipswich in first game lucky in second game too it was deflected into salahs path to score and man utd are gone well beyond a joke at this stage so I wouldn't get so excited. Best central defensive duo in the entire league gives them a chance in almost every game and that goalkeeper!

@@harrygregg9551People often say 'lucky' instead of acknowledging hard work, and you're one of those people, mate. I never said we were going to win the title, but after Klopp's era, when everyone expected a downfall like Man Utd and Arsenal experienced after their legendary managers left, seeing Arne Slot and Liverpool gives us confidence. After first three games now we believe we can comfortably compete for a top 1, 2, or 3 finish.

@@mohamedkasimj.5163 I think Klopp leaving when he did, and under his own terms is how a club should transition with long-term managers with a particular style of play. Ferguson's United was not a good team and his style of play was completely different to Moyes's style when he came in. His demise was inevitable and United haven't really fixed the problems in the team even now and Ferguson finished over ten years ago. Having chaotic owners doesn't help. Unai Emery had a similar style of play to Wenger and has shown that he is an excellent manager, but the Wenger team he was left was not very good. Wenger was kind of forced out and had to leave after some poor runs. But I think he liked how Emery set up and played. Unlike United, Arsenal have righted the ship and have looked good for a few years, and if Arteta were to leave, he'd leave the incoming manager with an excellent team. Basically United lacked the foresight to find a manager with a similar style to Ferguson. Arsenal did, but like United you have the hangover from such a long-serving an iconic manager. Klopp is in that group too and the board should be congratulated in finding a manager who can pick up where Klopp left off.

I don't think we'll see exactly where Man Utd are this season until Ugarte beds in and Hojlund is back, but the 4-2-4 isn't a controlling formation, it doesnt get the best out of Fernandes and it puts so much pressure on Casemiro and Mainoo that they just get overwhelmed by any half decent midfield. I'd prefer if Ten Hag actually played a bit more like Ajax with a 4-3-3, with Ugarte, Mainoo and Fernandes sitting deeper than we're used to - one to win the ball, one to carry it forwards and one to pass it forwards. Having Fernandes in the front line puts our best progressive passer with nobody to pass to and the defence end up just yeeting the ball up field. LIverpool looked really good and I feel that the lack of signings is almost a good thing for Slot cause he's been able to just work with a strong existing group, rather than having to integrate new personalities. It helps that Klopp left with Liverpool in a good place, squad wise - having refreshed the midfield last season and with only Van Dijk and Salah really on the 'veteran about to retire/leave' edge of their career - compared to Ferguson who left United with a bunch of old players who were past their sell-by date but too strong in the dressing room and replacements who weren't up to the same level.

@cantripleplays 14 күн бұрын
The 4-2-4 isn’t the problem, it’s that the wingers have to be running in behind and cutting in for it to work best, and that didn’t happen this game and defensively the false 9s shouldn’t really be pressing up unless they’re tryna man to man press

Ten hag is the problem. If you can't use your eyes to see that liverpool absolutely humbled united at home..they were playing a differentgame and looked like they actuallyhad kicked a ball to each other before. United are an absolute mess and have been since Feb 22.

Sean Dyche talks a lot about xG too, maybe he's a secret football analytical genius Manchester United were quite even in xG with Liverpool, maybe the game was close Or maybe overuse of xG is lazy
@karmaascendant3936
@karmaascendant3936 11 күн бұрын
Sean Dyche is more focused on how poor his attacking options are in terms of finishing when he mentions xG. Haaland has scored about as many goals as Everton has in the same time period. Ten Hag only mentions xG in bad games where his team were dominated but the opposition let them have the ball because they couldn’t hurt them.

...is a take that has so little substance that you can literally make it at the beginning of every season for every team without watching a single second of football even worth calling "a take"? Here's a take for you: Arsenal's squad is both thin (that's very evident and Arteta said so himself) _and_ it's overplayed. Their key players have started every game since forever. On top of that, they have some very injury prone players (Partey, Jesus, Tomiyasu). Take a look at Rice: In his last season at West Ham, he played over 5000 minutes for club and country. (Starting pretty much every game and reaching Conference League Final with West Ham) Last season, he again played over 5000 minutes for club and country. (Starting pretty much every game and reaching Euros Final) And then, straight after the Euros Final, he's starting since Matchday 1 this season again. Pretty much without taking a break. And it shows! He is knackered. Looks completely off it, didn't look good in any of the three games so far and crucially, being physically tired has cost him. He's already gotten _two_ yellow cards for late challenges (very uncharacteristic for the Declan Rice we know) in only three games. And with the second yellow against Brighton, he's already gotten 3 yellows in his first 3 games. His sending off has already cost Arsenal, his absence might cost Arsenal against Spurs and he will miss _again_ sooner rather than later due to accumulation - he's only 2 yellows off. Partey is finished and Merino is injured. After international break, it's one game every 3 days until Christmas. Gabriel has also been off it and Martinelli hasn't found his form in over a year. Trossard has always been a case of: great 12th man, disappointing/ineffective as starter. If you look at the entire situation, Arsenal is in a bit of trouble. This is how things currently stand.

Arsenal's worry now is that their PL season could be over after the next two matches.
@bexclue3007

What is that guy waffling??? First of all: KDB wasn't "in and out" last season. He was just out. He had his first PL appearence in the 70th minute of the _20th_ matchday (immediately scored and assisted) Secondly: he still registered 14 G/A in the PL, second most assists in the league (also scored against Real in the semis). Obv he wasnt at 100% but he was still very good. Thidrly: KDB does not dictate games for City. Never has. That's always been a job for David Silva, Bernardo, Gundogan and Rodri. KDB's job is to attack. Don't people remember that clip of Pep shouting at him "Keep the ball!!!" and KDB shouting back "Shut up!!!"? The guy regularly has the _by far_ lowest pass completion in the team. He is not concerned with control or dictating play He's only taken on that roll to a smaller extent right now bc Rodri isnt playing Seriously... how can you be a football "journalist" and literally get everything wrong
