The reason the beach is that muddy is because you're right at the edge of the Mersey, it's not an estuary as such, but that's all the silt and soil and stuff that's been washed down the river. (Very nice video, as usual, btw, made me feel very nostalgic.)

Aye, we get it from the other side in New Brighton. Fair bit sandy-er though.
@andywilliams7323
@andywilliams7323 3 жыл бұрын
More precisely it's washed up from the bed of the estuary onto both Crosby and New Brighton beaches. Due to the very strong tides passing in and out through the narrowest section of the estuary. Which is from between Birkenhead and Liverpool City Center to between New Brighton and Crosby. This tidal shifting up of sediment/mud from the estuary bed is what created the 65 foot deep Crosby Channel. Which is the only narrow channel in the estuary that's deep enough for big ships to navigate. Hence why big ships entering and exiting the Mersey pass by Crossby at just 1 mile out from the beach.

The guy saying "Oh my god" at the end, cracked me up. I enjoyed the video as usual. I thought it was interesting when you talked about staying at that beach as opposed to going on to another one. My hubby is the one who wants to stop for a few minutes here and a few there, but always on to something else. I like to pick a spot to just stay and hang out. It can be a challenge.

There are sandy beaches all around the UK. Wales is full of beautiful sandy beaches, also Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Kent, East Anglia, Northumbria, Lancashire, Scotland, Northern Ireland. Most are very safe but some of the very flat beaches in Lancashire can be dangerous because there are areas that will suck you in. People without local knowledge have died on Morecambe Beach that way.

In the National Rail Passenger Survey rankings. The Merseyrail Metro consistently ranks as the best, most frequent and most punctual train operator in the country. With a 91% passenger satisfaction rating and 96% punctuality rating. Take that London Underground. 😉 Brand new bigger and better trains are going be gradually introduced onto the network, early next year.
@tobeytransport2802
@tobeytransport2802 3 жыл бұрын
But the London Underground isn’t ranked on that list because it’s separate from national rail... Merseyrail is an operator within the national system (albeit a more metro style system than many others) hence it is ranked on that list but the underground, and Glasgow subway aren’t.

@@tobeytransport2802 Fair enough. Just light-hearted city rivalry ribbing. The London Underground is also a great rail transit system. With many great features that Merseyrail hasn't got. Such as trains arriving every 90 seconds, all-night services and a much larger network with a great number of destinations and interconnectivity within the city.

@@andywilliams7323 I’m not a city person (technically I live in a city but it’s more like a town within the same district as a very small city) so I don’t really have much opportunities to go on city transport... the closest big cities to me are London and Brighton so I tend to go on the tube when I can but I would love to come to liverpool and go on your Merseyrail underground railway.

@@tobeytransport2802 Do come someday. The network has 75 miles of track (only 6.5 miles of which is underground) throughout Merseyside (mostly through the urban centres and along the coasts) and into parts of Lancashire and Cheshire. It is possible to ride all of the 7 lines/routes back and forth in a single day with a £5.50 Day Saver ticket. Which lets you ride as often as you like anywhere on the network for the day. Re your comment about the statue's willy. As you're officially British now you must be aware that boys are not routinely circumcised here or anywhere in Europe. It's only done for religious reasons or if there's a real medical reason for it. Being routinely circumcised is an American thing. And a bit weird to be honest.

Evan interesting that you mentioned about pints.. I'm from the North and have lived in London 20 yrs.. I had to go back there to Blackburn for my dads funeral couple of weeks ago and literally nothing is cheaper. Buses are dearer, pubs are about the same, food and groceries and other items are pretty much the same price so i think the only thing that is cheaper up North is Housing. I think those articles always used Central London pricing or Shoreditch etc where its upwards of 7 to 1o quid a pint.. never what most ppl pay in locals. It used to be the case the North was cheaper but not any longer it appears

Yer Crosby is a particularly muddy beach. New Brighton beach on the opposite of the estuary also has muddy regions. They get muddy because they're situated at either end of "The Narrows". So-called because it's the straightest and narrowist section of the estuary. Where the river's tidal currents are fastest and strongest. So fast and strong that they shift mud and sediment up from the estuary bottom onto those beaches. Over many years this shifting of the mud has carved out a narrow channel that's up to 65 feet deep in places. To avoid the mud. You have to go beyond "The Narrows" to the beaches further up on the outer estuary. On the Liverpool side, they are Hightown, Formby, Ainsdale and Southport. And on the Wirral side, they are Moreton, Meols, Hoylake and West Kirby. All of those beaches are a short walk from their corresponding Merseyrail train station. It is possible to visit all those beaches in a single full day. For £5.50 you can get a Day Saver Ticket which allows you to ride the Merseyrail train anywhere as often as you like throughout the day.

A bit further up the coast, and in kind of the same vein (wide flat sands, but less muddy), I'd recommend doing the "Cross Bay Walk" across Morecambe Bay. You follow laurel branches across the sands, go out into the bay and eventually wade through a channel. It's potentially dangerous - you have to be guided by the official "Queen's Guide to the Sands" - so what might seem like a walk across a beach is actually a mini expedition with a tradition going back centuries.

You should take a trip to Blackpool day on the pleasure beach then ride a classic tram through the lights see the tower get North of the lights and walk back to the roundabout and back onto the tram. You can get a day ticket for the heritage or the new ones don't forget the kiss me quick hat and the rock. 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧🤠

i live around 3km from this beach and used to run along it every day. tbh you would have been better off alighting 1 stop earlier at Waterloo station and taking a left turn upon exit. This would have provided opportunity to walk around Crosby Marina and directly on to the beach.

Most of the beaches I go to in the UK are really nice sand beaches, but maybe that is just more common in Scotland. I usually go to the West Sands in St Andrews and it is a very nice sand beach. The last beach I went to was on Barra and that is like a Caribean beach (minus 50 degrees)

Those wormy things may have been razor clams. The mud looks a bit like quick sand. You have to be careful during high tide - people have been known to have got stuck out there and need rescuing.

Hi I live maybe 5 minutes walk from that beach There are sinking sands there ... Especially when it's slimy like it was when the tide was out I've been caught in them 🙈 pretty scary ... so take it from one who knows 😂🤣

There's plenty of sandy beaches, north, east, south and west of england. You can google up an image of most beaches before you visit if sand is what you want. Near me (Kent) I like Margate, broadstairs or maybe Camber sands. Liverpool looks nice though. Certainly looked like a nice relaxing day for a pint there.

A point about the pints! I grew up hearing about this and, in all fairness, it used to be absolutely true: back in 2007 pints were already £5 in London. I'm sure someone older than me who was maybe paying more attention to news about tax and similar in the 2010s can give us some clues as to why, but my general feeling is that, for a long time, London was way ahead on the pint price, it stuck in the popular imagination, and despite prices inflating at a higher rate in the rest of the UK in more recent years (where pints are concerned), people have been left with that notion.

For Sandy beaches try Whitsands Bay, Porthcurno and Newquay in Cornwall. Aberfraw in Anglesey North Wales is also beautiful. For a similar beach to Crosby, Weston Super Mare (Mud) springs to mind which like Crosby, is near the outpourings of a big river in this case thee Severn.

Keep on the train for a few more stops and get off at Formby. Much nicer beach (not muddy because it doesn't get the silt from the River Mersey/Irwell), and you can play spot the cute red squirrel in the woods behind the sand-dunes!!!!. If you want beautiful light golden sandy beaches head north to Northumberland. Just be prepared to freeze!!!

There's Sand??? Isn't that what a beach is for. Every beach I've been to has had sand. That mud is horrendous. It's always where there's an estuary - Bristol, Liverpool, Hull.

2:05 I think when Comic Sans started to come with Windows or Office or something in mid-to-late 90's, the font options before that had been pretty much just Arial and Times New Roman. So the new font got used as just something that wasn't the same-old stuff. I'm pretty sure I used it in the body text in some high school essays, and in the headings of even more essays -- and probably in several PowerPoints in later life. And never got any comments on the font choice -- instead, I've seen it used by other people in their presentations. On some people it might have stuck; nowadays Windows alone comes with several new fonts, but now there are so many of them, with so small differences that it's hard to find and decide among them.

What people don’t say when they say ‘the north is cheaper’ is that pretty much every city in the north is an exception to that rule. Prices in Mansfield for example are probably cheaper than Newcastle
