In this video, I follow up on some comments from a recent video about how Jacob Wheeler found his fish on Lake Eufaula during the Major League Fishing Event. In the comments, a lot of people believed forward facing sonar (livescope and mega 360 imaging) was the key factor in Jacob’s victory. However, in this video, I explain how I believe Jacob found his bass using side imaging and down imaging from his Lowrance and Humminbird units and I also discuss how to best use forward facing sonar in combination with tradition sonar views. Hope you enjoy!
-Jonny

Jonny, what I like most about you and your presentation is the data. You are data driven in search of causation moreso than correlation. Most people don't know the difference and the dock talk is driven by correlation AT BEST. There are sooooo many variables in fishing it is challenging to cull the variables to the point of establishing confident causation. Your attention to detail with images, graphs, graphics etc is second to none. Your approach is the best way to support the knowledge you have of fishing. You're a smart humble man. Keep doing what you're doing.

Your opinion is spot on!! Even Side Imaging won't put fish in the boat if you don't have the skill and experience to know what you are looking at. Finding the fish is one thing while knowing how to fish them is quite another. I know several fisherman that have laid out a lot of cash for the latest technologies, the new hot baits, etc. that are very disappointed in how many fish they catch. The thing they don't consider is their own lack of skill. Bill

The best way to become a better fishmen is to put in the hours out on the water and if you're using technology then learn how to use it. I agree. With that being said, what I love about my 360 unit is the ability to hone in on the way point. GPS is only accurate to within 25 feet. With the 360, I can see exactly what I identified on the graph waypoint and find it's exact location. Actually seeing the fish is a bonus.

This may be my favorite video of yours. It's actually reassuring. I cant justify spending the money for 360 or livescope due to budgetary constraints and was beginning to feel like I would be severely handicapped in any significant tournament . I'd still like to have them and understand that they would certainly be useful, but it sounds like your saying an anglermay still has a fighting chance with only owning decent side imaging unit.

@DadDnumba1
@DadDnumba1 4 жыл бұрын
It depends on the depth and type of bottom(hard/rocks etc or soft/mud) 455kh has a wider cone and farther cone but less clear image vs mega(narrow and shorter cone, but clearer image) it really depends on depth and lake. MEGA isn't always gonna work and same for 455 and 800 just takes experience to know which to use and how to adjust sensitivity, range, contrast and speed

I have been doing electronics installs and training as a side job for many years now. I have be very fortunate in the fact that a few of my customers are high quality tournament fisherman. They are way beyond what the average negative commentator "thinks" they are. Three of them you see on TV. I get to spend the day with them occasionally and you are spot on. Do they all have the best of the best? Of course, but it's because they want the tools that might help them catch an extra fish or two, it's not the reason they are so good at what they do. I honestly think the 360 and livescope help amateurs more than the pros. On top of that they are loads of fun to use :-) When it comes to being a "pro" ignore the comments. One of the best fisherman I know has pros in his driveway all the time picking his brain. He could care less about tournament fishing. What he has is good at is understanding fish behavior and attention to detail.

Johnny I love your videos there are some of the most informative in depth videos out there. As far as live scope and side scan I can agree and disagree on things. The side scan has it place as but livescope will become a bigger player sooner than later. I have been using it over a year. It will teach you more about fish behavior in year that I could have learned in 20 years. When the bass guys learn how to target the big ones watch out. I caught multiple fish over 9 lbs this past year you can put the bait on there nose or see them react in a negative way and change. Lesson learned is all this different tools have there place. Keep up the good work you are helping lots of fisherman including me.

I’m a livescope user and agree with your assessment. With LiveScope you absolutely can see a big fish and target it. Will it bite? Who knows. It’s time consuming and fun (for me) to fish that way, but I think a bass pro doesn’t have the time to do this. For them traditional methods produce more fish quickly and if they spend all their time targeting individual fish, their results would probably suffer. Crappie tournament fishing? That’s a different story and was not the subject of this video. I am mediocre fisherman and LiveScope helps me in a big way. It also makes you better at interpreting side imaging because you can see something on side imaging, go back and inspect with LiveScope. I do not regret the purchase.

Good job explaining the situation and putting reality on the line. I think the reason behind the commentators pushing the 360 imagining is for marketing purposes to try and sell the products. I’ve got a livescope on my bow...for bass fishing it’s “so so.” Now, for jigging crappie in the brush, it’s KILLER!!! You are right tho, it won’t make you a better fisherman. You still gotta get them to bite and no technology does that.

Jacob is the best electronics fisherman in the world! If anyone wants to see how he will be dominating the next few years, watch him as he uses 3 different brands of electronics. They invented the "Wheeler Rule" because of his advanced techniques.

I fish alot in NY & last yr was my 1st with Panoptix. You still have to have general knowledge of where fish are at during a certain time of yr. Last fall I was out deep fish humps for smallies & not doing good. Panoptix helped me pinpoint my cast to within a couple feet & I started nailing them. You cant troll around a whole lake with Panoptix looking for fish.

@Jonny I agree 100% that *finding* the fish was mainly because of his skills and using the side imaging but I also believe that the 360 and live scope helped him around 30-40% in *catching* the fish. Hopes this makes sense. At the end of the day finders are simply tools, it doesn't catch fish it simply makes it easier finding them and putting yourself up for success in catching the fish. Kind Regards

I agree. I like the 360 just don't like the glare from screen. I Like Garmin. A buddy just got Livescope and we are still learning.
