Wow-I needed to hear this today. Our 40 year marriage has been in turmoil for some time now. My husband wants me to be & think like HIM-for some reason & .also our business has become his Main focus instead of our family ( 3 children & 6 Beautiful grand kids. ). We are Christians & know that the enemy wants to destroy what we have. I appreciate your wise counsel & covet your prayers. Much love to you BOTH from NC❤

Oh, Elizabeth, I am just like you and my husband is Bill personified. My being up all night has driven him crazy for over 35 years. It’s taken him all this time to just let it go. He is in at home hospice care now and he relies on me throughout the night and we both finally have come to realize that God had a plan that brought us together.

That’s me! I feel terrible guilt. My husband has said “you’re on night watch” Sometimes I feel like I’m missing out on life with my family. People Judge night owls. It’s not intentional, I’ve been doing it since childhood. Took me FOREVER to sleep as a kid. I want to just be okay with who God created me to be without feeling the guilt. Thank you both for sharing this.

Congrats on almost 45 years together, you two are TRUE soulmates! Regardless of the ups and downs, you made it and adversity that is overcome only strengthens the marriage. You should both be beyond proud. My very elderly neighbor told me the secret to a successful marriage is there has to be mutual respect, trust and integrity. You can't smother one another, and you always have to remember is about "us", not "me". She also told me you should not marry the one you can live with, you should marry the one you can't live without! Sound advice.

What a wonderful, insightful video this is. I’m up 2-3 hours before my husband in the morning and he’s usually up a couple of hours after I go to bed at night. We are both pretty much retired with my husband getting part time work mostly late mornings or afternoons. I have my morning routine and I realized my husband has the same routine later when he gets up. I’m my most productive in the morning than by mid afternoon I’m done for the day except for making dinner. My husband on the other hand, is most productive in the afternoon and evening. I tried to change him most recently when I retired thinking he needed to get up with me and start the day. I really have come to enjoy my mornings to myself and get things done earlier in the day. There is a peace that has come between us that wasn’t there when I worked and when I first retired. You look like are both in good health and I’m glad Elizabeth is breathing much better. Take care and God bless.

We are on year 46. We too had some tough years. I had to learn to stand up for myself and not accept his attempts to manipulate me. I went and got some help. That gave me the strength to speak up. I also told him I would not even discuss divorce unless he had the papers ready for me to sign. That put a stop to that. It was mostly a bludgeon to manipulate me.

Thank you for this video, it helped me understand my sister, I couldn’t understand why she stays up all night and then sleeps the good portion of the day, I kept on her about it thinking that’s crazy. Be blessed and thank you both for your wonderful videos!❤

Linnie, I too worked night shift in a hospital for 35 years. I retired when the pandemic hit. It was pretty terrible being unable to sleep at night with the rest of the family. It's very lonely. Just recently I have been able to condition myself to only stay up until midnight and sleep for 7-8 hours. There is hope out there if you desire to change. Your sister may be perfectly happy the way it is and I wish you both well.

What a wonderful video and a great reminder, and possibly a wake-up call, to many……..including myself. I’m the morning person in our home. An early riser and most productive before noon. After lunch it’s a gradual decline for me. My husband is a “night owl”. Sometimes up till 2-3 in the morning and sleeping till maybe noon. Before he retired from the police force, he worked night shift and refused every opportunity to move to days! It has taken me many years to “get-it”! While it is still frustrating at times, I try my best to let it be. We’ve been married 27 yrs and I pray we are blessed with many more. By the way, what a beautiful backdrop and I’m not jealous🤭 God Bless🙏

This video really hit home. I won't speak for my husband but I have come to understand that we couldn't and shouldn't try to change each other. Our differences make our marriage whole. I would not tell him the things he did that annoy me, just let them simmer inside. All that did was make me annoyed with him. When I decided to just let him be himself, I was happier myself.

So true about the marriage info. We have been married for 52 years and have gone through the best and worst of times but always worked it through together. Life is not easy and as we grow we change and if we don't except the changes in our lives then we will not survive. We both made these vows to each other and God and that is why we still are together. He is my best friend and I am his. I understand Bills reference to not respecting the others feeling and views but it is so important to feel respected and heard. Life and marriage gets a little easier as you get older but it still need work and commitment on both sides. I have always said that once Rick is gone I will never marry again, not because it was bad but because my love for him will last me forever.

I love this & I agree with everything you said. We celebrated our 31st anniversary on 2/ 1/2023. We too have struggled at times. This was our 2nd marriage. In 1997 we lost my son Cameron & in 2004 we lost my husband’s son David, Jr. We too have found not trying to change each other has made our marriage stronger. He goes to bed early; I go to bed late. When he goes to bed, I lay down with him for about an hour and we talk. It is my favorite time of day. Making a marriage work can be difficult. However, when you allow it to happen, it can be such a blessing. Bill & Elizabeth, you are such a special example of that. Thank you for sharing your special love with us.

Wonderful video! I'm a senior (not married) but, can so relate to this video. I'm the one who wakes very early (between 4-5am) & is most alert & productive in the mornings. Most of my friends are the opposite & "come alive" in the evenings...while I am "done" by 8pm. On the other hand, I'm much like Elizabeth in my love for adventure but, not-so-much the adrenaline rush. I've dated men in the past who were (in some areas) determined to change me to their "correct" ways. I ended up ultimately leaving the relationship due to feeling smothered. I love how you talk so openly about embracing these differences, instead of trying to bend your spouse to your ways. I think that many of a couple's differences can serve to compliment & enrich each other's lives. So enjoying seeing you both enjoying your Winter in Florida. It makes my heart happy that you were able to purchase this beautiful home & get to enjoy decorating & making it your own.🥰

I know from experience that my husband tries to micro manage me , and all it does is build up resentments and anger. I would love if you could make a video about how you deal with each other when one of you is sick, And one person becomes unable to do what they used to do… Because that can cause problems too. What a lovely video you have shared. You are as "book ends" to a beautifully created life and journey. I am the morning person that had to work 29 years of my 50 yr nursing career on night shift. I became an artisan at switching gears. Newly retired, I was like a caged restless tiger married to a wonderful but sickly husband that is terminal. Sometimes I felt absolutely shackled...never to travel, never to have the retirement adventures we had longed for. Yet, I have been given and found great contentment now in my current situation with my life-long love of nearly 50 years. Life and marriage is worth the effort, the devotion, and we are rewarded with joy! Blessings to you both. I wish you so much love and time together.

So beautiful! ❤️ love you both. Thank you much. I'm divorced after a 31 year marriage and man if I could go back knowing what I know now I'd choose to be more patient, learn to breathe, relax, lighten up and pray earnestly before making any decisions. I thought we had to think as one and act as one on everything. Oh my what a wrong way to think!! Even though we are joined as one in God's sight, we are still individuals and are to support each other's goals and dreams, respect each other's ways of thinking and their uniqueness. Adventureously discover the mystery of one another! Sacrifice for one another. Believe in one another. Pray pray pray for God's help daily in all things. So much I could say... God will teach you how to minister to your mate as you humble yourself and pray. I pray for the success of marriages. ❤

It used to drive me nuts when he'd saunter out around 10:30 - 11:00 am, then still have to spend time waking up. To me half the day is gone by then LOL. Anyway, same thing by night time 8 to 9 I'm crashing and he's wide awake. I had to learn the same thing, we are all different with different internal clocks. I also, when doing a project like to get it done in a timely fashion. Not him.... In my eyes he would drag his feet, I would end up nagging which only made it worse until I finally understood he will get it done but in his time. This is a great topic to address and wisdom that definitely could help a lot of marriages.. Well done!!

I liked you guys before but thinking now I ❤ you 😂. This is so on spot advice. My husband has been way better about not trying to change me then me about trying to change him. But when he did try to change the way I do or think, I found it hurtful and insulting, and I realized what it must be like when I did this to him 😟 now I just take joy in the fact that we have each other, we love each other, and it has made life so good..48 years and still going strong with the immense help of the Lord. Because just in ourself it would not happen like this. PTL

This video was SUPERB!!!! Excellent insight into what works, and what doesn’t work in a marriage. Appreciate your differences! Don’t expect your spouse to be a carbon copy of you! You will only make your spouse unhappy and friction will abound. Thank you so much, Bill and Elizabeth. You both show that if God is first in your marriage and you truly love your spouse, these differences can be worked out successfully.

Congrats on the longevity of your marriage! Those are great words of wisdom. One thing to add is that as a person, you or your spouse may change in different seasons of their life and you need to let that happen and love them even if they seem very different. My wife has been very tolerant as I've grown in my faith and changed and is embracing who I am today. Also, I don't try to force her to change with me. We'll be married 36 years in September.

My poor husband has had to accept me changing drastically after a concussion turned into post concussion syndrome. It caused a lot of confusion for a while. So I don't know whether he's just accepted that I'm different or whether I'm my old self again. Doesn't really matter as long as we can work with it. We've been married 41 years this June. Love these videos. Bill and Elizabeth feel like extended family that you know are there but you just don't get too see in person. But one day. M Maranatha.

That was such a wonderful video showing the only real way to get along with your spouse or anyone else for that matter. ACCEPTANCE. I was one of those lucky ones who had for the most part a very happy marriage. I sadly lost my husband 6 years ago. He passed away exactly 3 months to the day of our 57th anniversary. I guess I shouldn't say lost, because I have him in my heart and in my memories, but I miss his presence. I feel bad for those who squabble all the time, life is just too short for that. Thank you for sharing how you have made your lives and marriage work, I truly hope it helps others take a look and see what may be wrong and not working for them. Have a Blessed day and Bill, please leave in the bloopers.😃😃😃

Also realize that each of you complement each other with different gifts that you both have. I love the People that understand not to trample on their mate. Therefore you gain more in Life. Thanks again!!💛

Perfect advice...don't try to change your spouse. My husband was a night owl and would stay up until the wee hours of the morning then sleep in until noon which used to really aggravate me because I was up early and ready to go. I learned never to make flight reservations or anything else for early morning because he would be deeply sleeping! Once I realized I couldn't change him I learned to accept his different body chemistry and make plans of my own for morning activities so I wouldn't just stay home and watch him sleep. We were happily married for 40 years after I learned to stop trying to change him!

I appreciate your authenticity and honesty! I wish more people; especially people in my life like my dad would understand this. That people aren’t all made the same. He’s an early riser and also doesn’t need a lot of sleep. I honestly need 10-10.5 hours of sleep to not be grumpy and actually function. And I am a total night owl and so my day if I’m at home is starting projects around 2pm or so, but I’ll go till dark or work in the dark. I usually go to bed 10:30pm-12am or so. I’m not less productive. I just have a shifted schedule and am efficient, thoughtful, and work hard with the time I do dedicate to working.

It takes a lot of courage and insight to admit that you are at fault, then try and correct your behavior towards your partner. You two are lucky to have found each other in the beginning to start this journey together. I stayed single, not finding that right person to spend a lifetime with. And for me, thats Ok. I think a person has to also learn to love and accept themselves too. Such great advice and I hope your video has helped others in their marriage. God Bless you both - you're quite a charming couple!

We’re coming up on 45 years of marriage and boy, the years and years of learning each other’s “quirks” is a work in progress. 💖We learned in the second year of our marriage how helpful it was to have different inner clocks. We had our daughter. I was up and taking care of her first thing every day. He was wide awake and taking care of her late at night with the last bottle and letting her fall asleep in his arms. We never really questioned how different we were from the start. 50 years now and we still appreciate how different we are. We know how to argue successfully. We know when to leave each other alone. And we have learned how to leave times that were sad behind us. Our pastor, who was also my dad, was very helpful. His first course of action was to take my husband's side and encourage me to calm down. I have been blessed and love that I have had my husband by my side all my life. Thanks for sharing your story. Loved all the wisdom you shared. ❇❇❇

I can empathize with Elizabeth about having a loved one who is daring. One of my daughters is the same level of daring. She takes precautions, and I know she wouldn't be happy or as strong a person if she didn't do these things. She has inspired me to face my fears, and the greatest gift that I can give her is to share in her happiness with these adventures.

We’ve been married 52 years and we have been pretty much opposites as you are. I’ve always been a late night person and my husband a very early up and going kind of guy. It definitely caused friction in the early years but as an 81 years old and a 72 year old, our clocks have meshed better. He sleeps in more and I go to bed earlier (not asleep however). Love you guys and both your videos. God bless you both.

I was married to a narcissist for 34 yrs. I tried for a number of times to leave but it seemed it wasn't time for me to leave. My upbringing I didn't believe in divorce. But I spoke to a pastor who helped me with that. So in 2009 I could hear Gods voice very clearly telling me it was time to leave 2 weeks later he moved his girlfriend in our home with him. I left him with the home. Anyway I came on here to say you can actually say say the two of you are different as daylight and dark. haha. yes Elizabeth we too have pioneer women cookware

48 years married & yes you need to be patient with one another. My husband, like Bill is an early riser, he would get so upset with me as I''m a night owl & would start a project at 11pm. That is just how we are wired, some of us as my husband do their best work in the early morning & some of us late at night. You have to except the differences in one another. Love you two.

I'm a night owl like Elizabeth and 6 PM seems to be that increase in energy timeframe too. I don't know how the early risers do it and more power to them but that is not me. I love all your videos no matter who made them, but the variety of styles is wonderful and complimentary to the channel I think. Bloopers are always fun. It is also sweet how Bill says "dear one" to Elizabeth.

Wonderful advice. My husband and I were opposites too, I was the early riser and he the late, I would fall asleep by 9 and he would be up until midnight and beyond. He was the thrill seeker, I was not. But we were together 40+ years and had a wonderful life. We made it a habit to do something 'nice' for each other everyday. Might just be a sweet note tucked in his briefcase, or he would bring me a wildflower he picked.

This video is soooo true!! We will be married 50 years in a few months. Both of us had to learn to compromise in sooo many ways. Me , I’m a night owl and adventurous my husband a early early riser and not too adventurous. We have gave each other permission to do what we love lol and both hop in when it’s right. The first years of our marriage was definitely the hardest. We both had to learn to compromise 😊. Thanks, good to hear someone else’s views and challenges ❤️and that so many have the same challenges.

My husband is retired so he sleeps late in the mornings. I am still working and go to bed at 9 and get up at 5:30 even on weekends. It is OK, I enjoy the quiet peaceful mornings on Saturday getting my housework done. One thing I have learned in our nearly 50 years of marriage is that it is OK if spouse doesn’t do things my way. If I complain, then it discourages him from helping. We are all a work in progress and the Lord often times balances spouses so they each compliment each other. That can take a while to learn and accept it and it is humbling to learn that you have got to change rather than trying to change your spouse.
