Just wanted to tell you that YOU inspired us to become debt free. We sold our home, paid off our car and paid cash for a modest dream home in the mountains of Arizona. We have 1/3 acre and plan to garden, have a she shed and he shed and I plan to start a side business refinishing furniture pieces...there is a high demand for custom pieces up here. We have been blessed with incredible Christian neighbors. God bless you guys! We are so excited for you!

Oh guys... this is so wonderful! I have been watching for years and you two (and 2 other YT’ers) have changed our lives! So I absolutely love seeing you two get all the good things that you have worked so hard for! We have two small boys (6 & 5) and my father (70) lives with us - we are incredibly blessed already. But watching your journey has been so motivating. In 6 and a half years we paid off $113k in debt and only have about $54k remaining on our mortgage. We are throwing everything at the mortgage to pay it off earlier than the 15 years term. My husband is a teacher and I’m a former RN-turned-SAHM. Our dream is to have some place we own in a different part of the country to spend summers and vacations. So this video is extremely exciting to see! Again - if you ever do have the extra time (and desire) when you visit Elizabeth’s sister in Maine - I know there are some of us in the region who would love to meet up (we’re in the Mt. Washington Valley of NH). God blesses you both!

I sold a rental house this last February, because I was afraid the market would crash, and I didn't think there would be a better time for house prices. I bought the house in 2002, converted the attached garage into a mother-in-law, approved and inspected by the city. It wasn't an easy road I can tell you, but that's another story. I got an excellent price, and paid off the mortgage, paid off the mortgage on my own house, and put $100,000 in a money market. But I will need about a quarter of that for taxes this spring on it. Many want to get into rental income, but need to understand when buying is a good idea and under what conditions, and when selling is a good idea. Flipping is fine, but many have no clue and overestimate how much they can get. To be successful, you must know what you are doing, or you can lose your shirt and end up with a property you do not want. I recommend real estate, even if it's just mobile homes. They can be a tremendous money maker. Thank you for the video. Elizabeth, you look like you are feeling so much better, and stronger! Be blessed!
@LiveSimpleLiveFree2 жыл бұрын
Yes, renovation/flips always cost more money and take longer than you expect. And if you do it in the wrong economy, you stand to lose a lot! It does take experience to know when and where to do it.

We've used your debt free principles for over 25 yrs and have been debt free for 25 yrs. We paid cash for a condo in deep southern TX 10yrs ago and blocked out the 3 months we would occupy it and had a rental company rent it out and oversee housekeeping for us the rest of the time. The condo was easier to maintain from a distance than a single family home and the outside was maintained by the condo association. We made enough income from it to pay the rental company, taxes and insurance on it and condo dues, etc., as well as taxes and insurance for our main residence and more. You may consider something similar to generate more income from your investment.

We’re debt free now as well! Paid mortgage off, now just pay utilities and whatever other things, but what a relief and difference being mortgage free makes! My parents used to be “ snowbirds “, rented a condo at a town called Hutchinson Island, around Jenson Beach, right on the beach of Atlantic Ocean. Lucky enough to visit them once, since lived in England at the time. They would leave the middle of January and drive back to Maryland in late April. I remember my dad brought back a fig tree, which produced some of the best figs! Anyway.. I wish you peace and happiness and may the good Lord guide you with finding what you’re looking for!

The house is paid for and I’m working on repairs which are happening slowly because I’m trying to stay, out of debt and competent help is hard to findI like my home, but I hate the cold and damp winter (my second) . You've made me rethink my situation. My daughter lives near Orlando, but I would be leaving my sister and brother in law behind. But the idea of northern Florida sounds very appealing to me. Bought a house in Seacrest Beach (to be built in a small development), as an investment. Love it so much here we just bought a home in Margaritaville in Panana City Beach, that we moved into a month ago.

I bought my property in 1993 in rural area about 30 miles east of Pensacola on a major hwy. That old house and about 2-1/2 acres was my home base for 28 years. I worked construction traveling most of that time hoping to sell it when I retired and be debt free. I did sell it in 2021 to a commercial land developer. I paid cash for a small homestead farther north with an old farmhouse built in 1939. I've been basically camping out while I work on the property and house but I'm debt free and plan to stay that way. When you said truck hauling cotton I thought that is a sight I see regularly. It's all cotton and peanut fields up around where I moved in northwest Florida. I feel very blessed to be able to be debt free and live comfortably on my social security.

I'm so happy for you both! I grew up outside Denver, and mom began to have more and more problems with the allergens there, especially tumbleweed. Dad and mom were like you when it came to staying out of debt, so the house was already paid off, so when the time came when mom just couldn't take the dry Denver climate anymore, the whole family up and moved to Seattle. This was in 1976. Dad came up some months before and found a house, almost paid it off right on the spot, and we moved in June, ran into a blizzard in Wyoming, had other adventures on the drive up. Mom's allergies cleared up the moment we hit the west side of the Cascades, and we all loved the house. It was 8 blocks from church, which is my definition of perfect! I hope you both find the home of your dreams that Bill doesn't have to spend 2 years fixing up, and you even get your own live oak with moss! Bless you.

I understand! We lived in Pennsylvania for decades, where we had -10 on a regular basis. Then we moved to Virginia 3 years ago where the winters are so much milder - lowest about 10. But that's still cold, and with Elizabeth's growing health issues and asthma, she starts to wheeze in temps below 50. I guess we're turning into southerners (LOL), but we're both DONE with the cold!

I'm very excited for you folks. I moved from Tennessee to here this will be my 7th or 8th time living in Florida. I keep coming back to this area. I’m so very excited to see your journey! We live in upstate rural NY currently, 5 acres with a log home. Our son, his wife, and her parents (retired) moved down to SC 2 years ago. His wife already had family there, and they had jobs lined up. It seems like yesterday packing their uhaul. My husband can retire next November and we will move. We need the equity from our home so unfortunately will have to sell. It’s also not a homestead that can be locked and left for months. We purchased and built for our horse Echo (who was 5 at the time, and 28 when we had to lay her to rest this past June). We have been here almost 22 years, but I have asthma, still need to currently work full time, and winter is a terrible season to suffer through. There will be a couple rough months for me down there in the summer, as it’s like trying to breathe liquid, but almost 10 months I can enjoy. God bless you both in finding your snowbird home ❤

I just wanted to let you know how much I’ve enjoyed watching a couple of your videos this morning. Surprisingly enough, I set out a plan for us to be debt free which included the mortgage in two years. We bought our three acre little farm 11 years ago ni North Central Florida and I’ve made a concerted effort to always pay more than needed which is why it’ll be paid off in 13 years instead of 30. The Credit card will be paid off in 8 months on a zero interest account we have and the money I sent the card will then be directed to the mortgage. At 70 and 72 you can see why there’s a giddy up in my step to get everything paid off. We love living surrounded by racehorse farms and beautiful equine properties which are immaculately maintained. There are 15 trees on our little place from Poplars to oaks and Magnolias. Come the fall, the mess of leaves on the ground isn’t fun but I know Elizabeth would think it was beautiful. Good luck and good health always to you both.

How wonderful!! My husband and I have been debt free for several years now. It's a great feeling! Our life has never been opulent. We have always been frugal. But in the past couple of years it's been nice to make a couple of larger purchases to aid in our off grid lifestyle at our cabin in the Yukon (new skidoo and a better atv) and be able to pay cash! Now, we are looking at the idea of buying a piece of land in Arizona, which is where we spend the last part of winter in our travel trailer. It really is so freeing to be able to reap the benefits of having been careful with our finances in the past. Excited for you both as you make this addition to your ives!

Hi, guys! I'm so happy you're giving such good advice about debt management, for young and older people! My husband and I recently came into some inheritance, at least I did, and I went ahead and paid off the mortgage on our house and paid off our credit card. Right now, we're debt free, and with the money that was going towards the house, and the rest of my inheritance, we talked with a financial advisor from the bank, and we're investing the money . I'm 66yrs old now, husband is 64, so investment is rather conservative, but at least it will make us some money, after taxes are paid. Now, I'm trying to give advice to my niece, who is 32yrs old But you know how it is with youngsters....they think they'll NEVER get old! I can only pray for her! Well, God bless you both! 🙏 Enjoy your retirement in the very best of health and happiness!

Don't completely discard mobile homes if the homes you find aren't in your price range. They do go up in value in Florida. I downsized from my house to a park model. Paid $45,000 a year and a half ago. I put around $30,000 into it remodeling. I could turn around and sell it for $140,000 but I'm having too much fun living here. The pan handle area does tend to get more hurricanes than the area between Tampa and Crystal River.

You're right. Exterior maintenance would be much easier in a condo. But I (Bill) could never be happy in a condo. Apartment living is not for me, and we haven't lived in one since 1982. And we've owned several homes that had HOA's. What a nightmare. We will never do that again! I also don't like cities, and condos are usually in cities or urban areas. We're looking in small-town rural Florida where there don't tend to be many condos.

So happy for you both. My grandparents moved to Crystal River in 1968ish. I summered there until H.S. My folks then retired there as well as my Aunt and Uncle. Elizabeth, you and sound like you're feeling better.

Good for you both! We paid our house off in the 90s in southern Az., then bought a property in the forest in Northern Az. 1999. I can’t wait to see more videos!

& Lisa: We have lived all of our lives in northwest Florida. Winters are mild, summers are atrocious.😂. Would not live anywhere else and contrary to what you may have heard, big hurricanes are not that common. Only one time have we ever boarded up our windows and during Ivan we did not board up our windows and only our fence sustained damage. I’m sure we will eventually have a very powerful storm, but there are drawbacks to most areas of our country. The weather and laid back lifestyle are well worth it. Good luck and welcome to Florida!

We're the opposite - our area is miserable, to me, July-November, and I kinda hate the frequent warm muggy mosquito-y days that still occur sporadically.

We have no plans to spend much time in Florida during the summer, expect for maybe a short trip just to check on the house!

I am so excited for you guys! Depending on where you buy...we may be neighbors. I live in Jacksonville, FL. When I retired, we considered moving to California where most of my family lives. We even rented a place for 5 months. However, it did not make sense financially to buy a home there. We too believe in debt free and have been so for many years. My research showed Jacksonville, FL was in the top 10 places to retire. Of course, California was NOT on the list to retire. Good luck in finding your winter home! :)

I’m so happy for y’all! I now understand why you’re explaining the various personal details of your life. You’re teaching others what good stewardship from God’s blessings looks like. All the best in your new journey and congratulations 🎊🎉❤️🙏🏻✝️. BTW , I had a feeling a southern home was in your future! Make sure not to move close to the young Buck in his hot rod….lol. Happy to see Elizabeth glowing, again❤️

Exactly. Many people thought we were somehow trying to justify ourselves. But actually - it was a teaching moment, using our own finances as an example.

Will the humidity bother you? Is it humid all year long in Fla?

Welcome to northern Florida. We moved from the Midwest in the late 70’s….2nd best decision we ever made. The 1st was surrendering our hearts and lives to the Lord Jesus.
