Best to stay home...but some folks, like healthcare workers, police, and road commission folk, have to commute to work, they simply *cannot* call in because of roads. And we appreciate when we have an emergency they are always there.

Aiming wanderously, you're right but some of these folks don't have to be out in this stuff. If they would stay home or slow down it would be safer for the folks who have no choice to be out. And yes thank God we do have people who are good enough to be there when we need them. But there are alot of unnecessary people driving around just to go to the store for something that could wait. I worked for a company that you were just a number. This one time we had an ice storm, 1/4 " on just my car I said to myself no way I called in to work another lady (probably more dedicated than me) tried to go in and got into an accident on the way to work and the company gave her a attendance point for not making it or not calling in. Those are the companies that should pay the person for the Dr. Bill. I'm very glad I no longer have to be somewhere when it's bad driving conditions.

Oh I remember me and my husband years ago driving home from Flint Michigan to Harrison Michigan on solid ice all the way...It is worrying one would not make it specially since just before Harrison exit there were two huge hills one going down and then the other going up like a roller coaster. So happy we made it home safe.

Remember when cars were made of metal? I spun out and hit a guard rail in my 85 blazer (full size) and it totaled the rail and slightly bent my stock bumper. I drove home from the accident too.

They should have after market bumpers make out of steel or aluminum - like the push bumpers truckers can buy - we were putting them on our trucks and cut our repair costs when in an accident or if we hit a moose or deer.

Metal does worse in accidents because it doesn't absorb as much of the impact. The alloy/plastic of today doesn't rust as quickly and does a better job of protecting the occupants.

I drive a AWD with snow tires that are studded in winter. But I’ve noticed counties are not maintaining roads very good. If you can’t afford to use chemical or salt deicer at least put gravel down in icy conditions. But southern States probably have no budget for icy roads since they’re rare.

I hualed a load of lumber down to Wichita from Omaha that day in an 18 wheeler, it wasn't much fun. I seen that grain hauler tipped over on the way down and again on the way out of town. So glad I got to see it like 37 more times.

People that go out in conditions like this without dedicated snow tires like Bridgestone blizzaks or Michelin x-ice or studded tires are asking for it. Driving a 4wd or AWD means nothing. All season tires that are M&S rated and even AT tires will such ass in these types of condition.
