@@aplaceformystuff7979 My area has fairly tame weather. I live in bucks county, pa. We’ve had a few tornadoes come through, but my area is fairly hilly, so I doubt we’ll get hit any time soon. Ofc everyone can’t live in one spot, but moving inland could lessen the damage you receive, and possibly protect the country. I think these barrier islands would at least somewhat lessen the storm surge that reaches inland if there wasn’t as much concrete on them, but maybe I’m incorrect on that. Wherever you are, I hope your area remains somewhat safe from devastating weather.

@@Gregrs400 Ok Greg but any given winter you could experience devastating snow storms correct? My point is there really isn't anywhere that is not subjected to something; earthquakes, drought, tsunami, cyclones, blizzards, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, mudslides et al. I am on the west coast of florida and right now we are doing ok. However I am from where this footage was taken and most of my family and friends are still there. Most of them are flooded, some slept in their trucks last night and all are without power. None of them live within 10 miles of the beach.

@@aplaceformystuff7979 I understand what you mean, and we can get a fair amount of snow, but the season is a bit shorter than other places because we have to wait for the Atlantic Ocean to cool down, and I live on the i95 corridor which is notorious for being sometimes 50/50 rain or snow. But yeah, we can get a lot of snow, but we haven’t gotten a very serious blizzard in like 10 years or so.

@@gantmj it has to be available for emergencies and there really isn't any "higher ground" for them to go as they are at sea level and right on the beach. Also emergency vehicles have a much higher clearance than a regular passenger car.

The inundation possibility level is shown by the height the buildings are off of the ground, so that truck simply having higher ground clearance than a passenger car is irrelevant as a metric in comparison. If higher ground is 15 miles away on a pile of dirt, then so be it. Letting it get flooded serves no purpose.

So a beach town fire department built a flimsy metal building. 65-70mph winds blew in the doors. *When you build coastal, build it to hold up to hurricane winds and in their case, they should have raised the land elevation before building.
