I live in Colorado where this type of stuff happens every winter. A good set of all weather or terraine tires are helpful, or studded snow tires, or even chains sure help. Our plows do the tandum when clearing highways and mountain passes. Wishing everyone well wishes and safety. Stay home, if possible, so you don't become an issue.

Nothing helps in ice There was a sheet of ice under that snow from the day before. I used to live in Cheyenne Wyoming, so I know about big snows. But we never had ice like we have here in Kansas City

You have to understand there was a sheet of ice from the day before underneath all that snow. It was freezing rain, ice , and sleet all day yesterday from about 1 in afternoon, throughout the middle of the night. I've driven in all types of weather conditions when I spent so much time on the road for 9 years for my business. Plus I grew up in Cheyenne wyoming. We never had ice there like we have here in Kansas city. Also, the snow is different. Much of the snow I grew up in was dryer. And it doesn't snow much here anymore so people don't have the experience. And, it's a large mtero area, spanning 2 sides of the state line and numerous bridges and highways.

Sometimes leaving a coat of snow is more efficient, West Yellowstone is all snow and you can drive on it no problem when all the snow is removed it exposed the slick ground

Depends on the type of snow. Powdered or wet. Yellowstone is more powdery. The road crews had to put down certain chemicals because it iced the day before. All day the day before they were sleet, ice, and freezing rain for about six straight hours

City us suppose to go oit with trucks when sleeting a d they did to make it melt. They put something down nite before, in stead of day of while sleeting, liquid to melt. Then when they did get oit there they removed thesnow and left the ice again

Really? People living in Kansas City don't think ahead to get SNOW TIRES or STUDDED TIRES for their vehicles to be mounted during weather like this? I live in KENTUCKY where deep snow is almost never seen, but I have a full set of studded tires mounted to wheels, READY for bad weather.

I'll say this another time for those that are jumping the gun and not understanding. We had 6 hours of continued sleet, ice, and freezing rain the day before. Snow tires do nothing in those conditions. I grew up in Cheyenne, WY and have traveled (driving) extensively in all types of weather. Sheet of ice is impossible to drive on, not matter what tires. Although, I can tell you from experience, having a manual transmission makes it easier than having an automatic. Unfortunately most do not have a manual transmission anymore where tge clutch and downshifting at tge correct times helps
