Nice to see a sensible video showing how to empty the cassette, watched one a while ago by a popular motor home owner that was quite disgusting, the toilet and cassette area were vile and he had the cheek to wear gloves beside the fact that he did it totally wrong. You may have seen it. Not sure about putting toilet tissue seperate as we have never had a problem and use the same tissue as at home, but each to their own way if it works.

Great video, I didn't learn anything but was curious. We've had Motorhomes, campervans and caravans for best part of twenty years and emptied many, many cassettes. People cringe and shy away from this but it's basic human nature stuff! I guess having three small children I've seen a lot worse nappies!!! We even use a small amount of Thetford toilet paper (or similar) and never have any problems (tempts fate!). My tip is take your time, be methodical and follow good hygiene practices and you'll be fine.

Just a quickie about paper in the cassette, we use the aquachem blue concentrate and Thetford paper and so far find the paper breaks down enough so as not to be a problem. Like you I tend to use a weaker mix than recommended because I tend to empty it each morning in case we go off in the MH.

Cassette-style toilets are less common in the US. It would have never occurred to me to empty it before driving. My truck camper uses the holding tank style and the idea of emptying it every time we drive somewhere seems like a real hassle since we are constantly moving.

The vans here tend to be like this. And the cassette is relatively small so you empty it quite often.

I think I'm missing something--why would you ever leave the valve open when not in use? Wouldn't it always be better to close it?
@LiveforTravel2 жыл бұрын
If we close the valve each time we have used the toilet we have to remember to open it every time too. By opening the valve when arriving on site and only closing the valve before we leave negates the chance of someone using the toilet with the valve shut.

I've been full time only 6 months in my 2010 bailey pageant 2 berth but try this with flap open get about four pieces of loo paper all together and gently place above open hatch with back of fingers so as to seal the hole and if you are good you'll manage to do it without touching the loose sides. the next person just goes directly on top of the previous paper and they once again put three or four pieces of loo paper directly over the open flap just to seal the air in. It mostly works for me but then again it's just me and my little Jack Russell Buddy. Have a fantastic week

Oops your cable is underneath the van! PS I don't have any problems with this but you said in the video 2 days ago that you didn't do this! ;-)
@LiveforTravel3 жыл бұрын
Haha. We were very aware that we had previously left some cable under the van and this particular video was filmed at Ferry Meadows in June. When we researched the video for EHU we decided that although the cable is not coiled, and never has been as I run the cable through the cable tidy to prevent me having to put it away in the garage or blowing away, the advice we read up on for the video said it was best to not have it underneath. Therefore all future videos will indeed follow the advice we are now aware of. Thanks for watching.
