→ Big thank you to SoloEast for bringing us to meet Baba Gania in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone (www.tourkiev.com/, not sponsored, they do great work!)
Chances are, you know what happened in the Soviet town of Prypyat in 1986, even if you've never heard the name before. When reactor number 4 exploded at the Chernobyl Nuclear Plant, tonnes of nuclear waste and radioactive materials were spewed out into the surrounding areas, some reaching as far as Western Europe. The consequences continue up until today.
On this trip to Chernobyl, I wanted to meet the people that still live here, despite the threat of contamination. This is how I came across Baba Gania.

Dude, chill. So what if another travel vlogger visited a place and interviewed one of the only people still living there? There aren't "dibs" on storytelling in a world this big and this interesting. Who cares if Bald & Bankrupt got there before Eva did?

@baldo baldone I forgot how going to Chernobyl, which thousands upon thousands of people have done for over a decade or more is considered plagiarism because one bald british middle-aged man has been there and made a video about it. He went there and now owns the story for all time obviously.

My grandma hasn't been diagnosed yet but has dementia for more than 3 years which is quite visible. I remember her food was yummy. I would always wanna have her fish curry when I would go to her house. But now she forgot how to make it and forgets most things we speak and would ask me the same question after every 2 minutes which I don't mind answering but i feel like crying to see her like that. I miss her food and I wish she didn't have dementia.

My mom is turning 80 this year and has been living in a house that gets flooded during typhoons. 2x the flood was so deep she had to be evacuated. She told me she will never ever leave the house the next time it floods. Indeed they get very attached and would not want to leave the comfort of their homes even in the face of danger. 😑

I love these types of videos, my mum was Russian and my dad was polish and they got shipped to Australia in ww2 after spending some time in concentration camps. I just think of my ancestors or cousins etc may still be alive and even tho I cannot speak either language, I feel apart of my heritage in the surround villages. somehow I feel a connection with them, it may sound weird but its like watching family members. my mum and dad have long gone, our family, even tho we are from 10 siblings, we are not close, they got married and dont want to see other family members. its fine but it is nice to see Baba Gania in her village, and those pickles, wow... your brave for eating the food there but sometimes ya just gotta have faith in our creator to keep you safe. I would visit there, just take B12 and vitamin d.. and maybe some charcoal just in case for the radiation to be removed safely from the body.. thanks Eva. xx from Australia..

You brought me back 35 years ago when I first heard the news of the Chernobyl disaster. I live miles away but it sure was an extremely sad incident that shook the world about the dangers of radiation. For us who were in our late 20s to early 30s at that time, it was a terrible thing to received news which had caused destructions and deaths. Looking at the forestscand overgrown greeneries, nature does have its way of communicating a better tomorrow ahead for anyone of us. For Baba Gania, I do understand her sentiments.
