Spiritual, not religious was exactly how I described myself until earlier this year. Since enquiring into Orthodoxy I feel blessed to have gained a true insight into what spirituality really is and am working hard to prepare myself to accept true Religion. Thank the Lord!

This phrase "take up your cross" has been in my mind all week: from opening a book at a random page and reading it, hearing someone say it in a passing conversation to waking up to it, this morning. Thank you-this is quite a battle, but worth it!

As a Protestant, I lost my way in the prosperity gospel for a while, and the message that if I only believed that I would get answers to my prayers, in essence if I did not get answers my belief was lacking, it took me a while to get out of that but it also stole from me the trust I had in my youth. Now God has taken hold and showing the way, and it’s a struggle in a very good way, because I am getting a deeper understanding, and he sent me to you not to convert to orthodox but to find answers. In a way finding my way back with orthodox understanding which is very pure. I am thankful for you and hope all is well with you and hope the Orthodox Church comes to Iceland. Bless you.

I actually think that the spiritual 'feelings' you refer to is the beginning of religiosity in non-religious people and, with a little teaching, can be taken in the right direction.

Marvin I can listen to him 24 hours. I just discovered this Holy Priest. I am Catholic and I would love to visit his Parish, meet new people, and one never knows following my heart I might stay. I have no doubt his words are dictated by the Holy Spirit which is for us a great nourishment for the soul and spiritually very enlightened. My Jesus please bless and protect your servant Father Spyridon.

I'm starting to take great delight in hearing you Fr., but I still cannot forgive those who have hurt me in my childhood and youth years and never repented later...What good will my forgiveness to them do if they decided to go to Hell...All I can do is pray for them so that they will eventually repent and when they do, then I'll be able to forgive them. But if they don't repent, then not even God will forgive them; so who am I to be better than God and forgive those that God won't forgive?

Thank you Father for the insight. I struggle a great deal with love and genuine forgiveness with persons who are treating me badly. 3:35. I just don't know how to attain that, but I'm trusting God that I'll get there with genuine love and forgiveness. Please pray for me.

In my observation, many describe themselves as "spiritual," because that requires nothing. Wheras, religion asks more from us. At some point, the word "religion" was given a negative connotation. The Latin etymology of the word is to bind together with reverence.

We have children and they work for a living, God does not oppose that, everything on this earth is a test. I worry about our youth , let's face it Alot of people find spirituality after a certain event like a tragedy or an unbearable grief + sickness. However we find Jesus ,the main thing is we find him and quick in today's world, i personally found Jesus at a very young age. Not everyone is gifted with that amount of faith , God knows what he is doing, nothing you can do will win over his favor, he favours who he likes, after all he made us , just live your life as pleasing as possible, and yes if your gift is to be a preacher then preach preach, everything that happens happens for God's Glory . ❤

Pope Eugene IV, Council of Florence, “Cantate Domino,” 1441: “The Holy Roman Church firmly believes, professes and preaches that all those who are outside the Catholic Church, not only pagans but also Jews or heretics and schismatics, cannot share in eternal life and will go into the everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels, unless they are joined to the Church before the end of their lives…”2
@collectiveconsciousness53144 жыл бұрын
Evan Gallion Problem being: 1. The RCC has gone back on that teaching regarding Jews. 2. It has now been shown to be the wrong side in all this, with its current fall from grace.

We read in Scripture, Revelation 10:1-11, that a mighty Angel gives John the Revelator a little scroll and commands that He eat it. It first tastes sweet in his mouth, but becomes bitterness as the TRUTH of it becomes known. Sometimes we face severe trials in obeying the commands of God. But whether it is sweet or bitter (and I have known both) it should be remembered that it ALL comes from Him. In the end Jesus, who is the RISEN Christ and the High Priest of the Church, will make all things new again. This I KNOW is true!

So what does such a man do all day, once liberated from the bodily passions? He doesn't really become free, he just becomes slave to God now, he trades masters. From one set of rituals he switches to another... And then what?

I don't really subscribe to this suffering to obtain spiritual fitness. Christ suffered for us, as it is written. Although I seem to suffer an awful a lot. I think its just the Devil attacking, to make me humble? Not saying one can't try and be spiritual like that. Jesus said of John the Baptist. "Of those who are born of women their is none greater than he. (John lived in the wilderness, ate honey and locust, and wore ruff camel skins.) but Jesus continued, "Except for he who is least in the kingdom of Heaven, He is greater." Jesus wasn't talking about someone who had died and gone to Heaven. Because he said "of those who are born of women." He was talking about someone who learned to walk so close to God, that he had entered into heaven on Earth. Like Enoch and Elijah. As for the rest of Spyridon's sermon we might consider this from Act's 17 "27That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: 28For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. 29Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device." I love Father Spyridon's dedication and sharing.
